It could be that we play 3 at the back, in which case we’ll need 5 or 6 to cover injuries, suspensions, loss of form. Also competition for places is no bad thing, it pushes the players in the shirt. To often, certainly in midfield we’ve not had that.

I’m just guessing as I have no idea how Kompany likes to line up, just find it refreshing that I know we probably won’t line up 4-4-2 for the next number of years and we’ll end up with hopefully a couple of fluent systems.

Cornet is a finisher and we have not got one in the squad at the moment and that's vital, Vid we have no idea if he's stopping or when he's fully fit and raring to go, Barnes and Jay with their ages and inconsistencies are what, chipping in here and there.

I’m still in hope of Delap on loan from City. He might not be proven but he looks quality and fairly physically imposing for his age.

Yeah, the majority of the signings will be Kompany telling the recruitment team what type of player he needs. They'll come to him with a shortlist of players based on data and scouting reports with video footage. Kompany will indicate which ones he likes the look of and then the club will make contact.

He may have some players he knows/wants from his time in Belgium or at City but the recruitment team will have to run the rule over them first anyway (assuming they haven't already).

Genuine question & not wishing to cause offence. Are you in the Know about how this happens in our club or are you just presuming this is what happens, because you’ve read it somewhere/happens at other clubs.

Or Adam Armstrong from Southampton. Been linked with a loan move to Watford so could be available and is proven at this level.

Agree we need another striker though. Even if Vydra signs it will be January before we properly see him.

As it’s one we have no control over, I think we should be planning with an understanding that Cornet will probably be off.

There’ll be a few clubs in the prem that don’t land their targets, and as the transfer deadline gets close, with money burning a hole in their pockets, and their fans getting agitated, it’s the kind of safe signing they’ll go for.

Yes, they'll know that as I predicted a few seasons ago and was proven right that SD knocked any bit of creativity out of him. They will also have seen the improvement in him after SD left while not under the straight-jacket of our coaching set-up and team structure...

It is similar to Connor Roberts... A very good footballer who is criticised by the echo chamber in here but those with any kind of credibility know that he had just come back off a long injury lay-off and takes a lot longer than that to hit top form again as well as not being used to his best attributes...

I came to the conclusion a long time ago, that any player who is constantly derided on the comments here is probably a decent player and that has been proved time and time again!

Must confess I've never heard of this lad, Hull apparently interested too.
With the danger of falling into the "he looks good on YouTube" trap, he looks to be a big strong lad with great pace, who can receive the ball with his back to goal and bring others into play.

The highlights were from the Turkish league though, and with the exception of the big 3 or 4 teams, I know little about.
