You could have at least given us a shred of positivity with Taylor.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 7:19 pmIf the latest midfielder links are on the money, it may even push Cork into a bit part role.
That leaves us with:
Taylor
Collins (rumoured to be off)
Lowton (rumoured to be off)
Roberts (rumoured to be off)
Cork (signed on but will he start with all the midfielders linked)
Westwood (injured)
Brownhill (rumoured to be off)
McNeil (rumoured to be off)
Cornet (rumoured to be off)
Gudmundsson (rarely fit for long enough to get a run)
Rodriguez (given two more years)
Barnes (activated at his choosing)
Vydra (injured)
Tarkowski, Mee and Pope already gone! I expected some turnover but it’s looking like the baby, it’s rubber duck and the Johnson’s shampoo are going out with the bath water.
The signings sound half decent on paper but hell, it’ll take some moulding to make a team!

Being wrong is part of life…. There’s no embarrassment to it. Obviously you want to be right on more decisions that you make than wrong, but that’s the way life goes. And this is football
Message board, so differing well backed up discussion points are surely welcomed?

The way things are going our overhaul is going to end up even more severe than Palace. Certainly looks like we’re going to be starting with new (and very young) players at the back. Remains to be seen how much of the midfield & strike force changes.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 7:08 pmYep…. I thought Palace last year were over priced for relegation, but that level of squad overhaul delivering success is the exception rather than the rule.
You certainly couldn’t say with much confidence that many of the team from last season will definitely be here come 1 September.

Yes, it is true. I've seen various quotes from him over the years saying when he goes home he doesn't watch football and doesn't talk about football. Her is one quote from here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... r-campbelldandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 2:00 pmThat's just not true is it? Revisit the high performance podcast, I am pretty sure he talks about how all encompassing football is, and how even when he was at home he was watching games. I can't have the revision of history, that Sean Dyche didn't have an interest in football - it is utter nonsense.
---
Now we are in Sean Dyche’s home near Northampton, and the first thing thought you have is that if this was David Frost’s old show, Through the Keyhole, you would never guess that a former footballer and current manager lived here. “You won’t find any memorabilia in here,” he says, as he goes about making us a coffee. “No pictures, no old shirts, none of that. I’m not one of those football people who thinks and talks nothing but football. When I’m here, it’s not just my home, it’s the family home.

Palace back 4 that started the season was completely new. We could yet still have Roberts, Collins and Taylor.agreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 7:27 pmThe way things are going our overhaul is going to end up even more severe than Palace. Simple fact is we don’t know who will and won’t be here yet. I’m sure Pace and Kompany realise they can’t just let everyone go.

It is indeed looking like a rather big overhaul.
Thing is, we’ve had a triple whammy of relegation, new manager and a large number of players naturally coming to the end of their contracts.
I’m not really surprised, tbh.

There’s gonna be a bunch of young lads introducing themselves to each other on the pitch before kick off at Huddersfield like at Sunday League.

I certainly think it looks like we’re pretty relaxed about the prospect of next season being more about developing the squad than promotion.

I don’t know that clubs can ever set up for 1 season of development can they? Players who dom progress likely leave, so the season after becomes about development too. Maybe we’re going to become a development club, and being st this level suits the financial model better?agreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 7:37 pmI certainly think it looks like we’re pretty relaxed about the prospect of next season being more about developing the squad than promotion.

We’re getting the cheap easy deals over the line but I expect that we will be looking to bring in more proven quality as the transfer window progresses. This may be reliant on some outgoings of course.

Sell Collins and McNeil this summer and pay the debt off. Then just tick along buying cheap and selling high as a mid to low end championship team.
Would work quite well for ALK as well. They could get a hefty dividends payment every year and then sell for 20-30m in a few years making profit on there original investment.
However if they want to get a big payout prem is where they want to be.

Hope so. Going to need a bit of know-how, whether that’s by closing the exit doors or making one or two signings more akin to the last summer we were relegated.

Is it possible to do well with inexperienced centre halves?
Those that have plenty of youth in their side and have done well have all had experienced players at the back.
We risk having none which doesn't bode well.

But there's always the possibility that some players coming in, while 'cheap' - are the best signings we'll make in years.
"Cheap easy deals" sounds like we're bringing in people who happen to have a couple of legs and can run around for a bit.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Good job we've got one of the best CB's the world has seen in the modern era to coach them

Sign experienced players. Fertile ground for those on here who love to complain about our ageing squad.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Don’t think that’s the case. We’ve just signed players for relatively very low transfer fees or on loan and the speed in which the deals have been done suggest they have been easy to conclude.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
A quick stab in the dark says we already have plenty of players with quality and experience in the squad…
Cork
Taylor
Jay Rod
JBG
Westwood
Barnes
Vydra
…
Then there’s players rumoured to be leaving still currently in the squad (all with quality and experience)
Collins
Roberts
Cornet
Lowton
Hennessey
…
When VK stated he was happy to work with what he inherited I believe it’s the experienced players that he was referring to.
Yes, it will be a hard task to gel a team instantly, but he’s bringing in proper quality youngsters who have no fear - hit the ground running and we will do fine.

They’ve probably only been easy to conclude because of the Vincent Kompany effect.

I suppose a lot depends on who goes/stays.
if our most valuable players leave we may be able to bring in more experienced (more expensive) targets.
If they stay we will have a blend with them and the young players we have brought in

True. Although selling one of our assets may bring in enough for us to make 2 or 3 more established signings.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 01, 2022 8:26 pmI suppose a lot depends on who goes/stays.

He has been pitching his vision to some of these players for over a month, they are all coming in buying into it, I can only get excited, yes there are going to be rough patches but in my mind, letting go the likes of Hennessey frees up a large wage, offer that saved money to some like Cornet, McNeil, Collins to negate the need of them taking a cut in wages and we will really have a side capable of returning at the first time of asking,
RJ Egan allows one of Roberts or Lowton to leave, possibly decent money for one and a hefty wage off the books
McNally allows Long to leave, again another big wage and think McNally will be back up for the most part

Not forgetting the fact that it just happened to be a bunch of kids that were exceptional talents.
I think it’s fairly obvious that Pace’s vision isn’t to see us plodding along in the Championship for too long. The longer we leave it, the harder it will be to achieve Europe in five years!!

Isn't there a significant difference? Fergie's team of "don't win anything with youngsters" won the Premier league. Vincent Kompany's re-built Burnley will be competing in the Championship.
