He's certainly someone we want off the books. Free the wage and bring in 2 players to replace.

It’s been interesting to see how many players we’ve been linked with in the last month, but with a threadbare squad and less than 5 weeks to season, it’d be nice to actually sign a footballer.
We’re not talking about adding a few to bolster a settled squad. Some of these signings will have to start at Huddersfield.

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Sounds like Twine, Egan Riley and THB are all very close. All 3 might even start at Hudd. Hopefully there’s some forward players we can start to close in on this week.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:36 amIt’s been interesting to see how many players we’ve been linked with in the last month, but with a threadbare squad and less than 5 weeks to season, it’d be nice to actually sign a footballer.

FWIW, Lancs Live still reporting the Ballard deal is going ahead. Who knows though.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
3 exciting prospects for sure. The state of the squad has been coming for some time. The previous manager kept kicking the can down the road and refused to invest in youth. VK at least seems to be actively targeting the younger players who will turn into an asset instead of a liability.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I find it very peculiar that we'd go the trouble of agreeing a £2m fee for this Ballard, get his medical done, and then pull the plug in favour of bringing a loan in. Especially as some of Kompany's first words were loans are a last resort.
Something not adding up there.

No - Alex James has said he’s going to chase it up and just that he’d been told it was close last week.onewillieirvine wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:44 amFWIW, Lancs Live still reporting the Ballard deal is going ahead. Who knows though.

Think you are being a little unfair in your assessment of previous recruitment in youth. We were invested in the Academy, as an example.Shaggy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:46 am

Doing what we are doing now is different to doing this in the Premier League.
We are taking the right approach for sure in what we are doing now though.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Fair point - let’s hope we can get them announced tomorrow.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Still plenty of rumours but I'll feel a bit happier when we actually sign someone with our previous record.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Pete O Rouke says we are close to signing Luke McNally from Oxford.

I know who I’d trust out of them and Nixon (Nixon).onewillieirvine wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:44 amFWIW, Lancs Live still reporting the Ballard deal is going ahead. Who knows though.
Wouldn’t shock me if the news about a failed medical is true (it didn’t seem reported anywhere but the poster on here, implying, to me, that it was good info that had been passed on privately) as with stuff like that I wonder if we’re legally bound to not report it as a failed medical? I think when Austin failed his at Hull that we had kept it on the hush, but that Steve Bruce came out and publicly explained it was his knee/failed medical etc.
On the subject of Roberts - I don’t rate him. He was a liability defensively and everyone keeps calling him a ‘promising young lad’ but he’s 28 in three months. That was in the Premier League though, and I was looking forward to seeing how he did at a lower level. If Wolves are offering good money for him though I’d take it, as it’s a player I’m shocked to make a good profit on.
My worry is, however, that the replacement rumoured appears to be another League One player. Young prospects are great and the ones so far pleased me, but this is a marked step down in quality. You do that in too many positions and you end up with a serious problem. Then again, we still have Matt Lowton who is (for me) a far better right back than Connor Roberts.

There’s the confirmation of Ballard not coming then, I’d say. It also probably leads credence to a failed medical as opposed to not ‘needing’ Ballard anymore?
Good to see they’ve moved quickly after that, whatever the case.

We need players in asap, and if everyone who is sellable is leaving, then we need them to leave asap
We are going to be starting in just under five weeks in one of the toughest leagues in the world, with a completely new style, a completely new formation, a completely new management team and a completely new team, and its a tough ask to expect a team built like that to hit the ground running without everyone being together for as long a pre-season as possible

Maybe forced Oxford’s hand by moving on to somebody else, if that the case then it was a good move, prevents us from being ripped off.

Think this is the most likely scenario
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Offers for McNally came in before ones for Ballard makes me think he was our first choice. Maybe Oxford panicked when we moved on (or McNally kicked off) and they've come crawling to us with a lower asking price.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 9:04 amThere’s the confirmation of Ballard not coming then, I’d say. Would make more sense than us deciding we didn't need Ballard because of THB and Egan-Riley

I don't know much about either Ballard or McNally but my gut instinct is I'd rather go for the one who's played and impressed in the Championship.

It looks like we are playing a brilliantly tactical game with these transfers and not
giving much away to other parties, The football world are not sure if we are cash rich
or cash poor, in relative terms.
A very canny strategy and one I think we'll see come to fruition come 1st July when
contracts officially end.
I, for one, am really enjoying this cat and mouse game that we seem to be playing.

Chris Boden saying despite belief on Friday Ballard deal was agreed with Arsenal, that now appears unlikely and there was no agreement and no failed medical.
Also says nothing agreed yet for McNally…

I presume that Collins knows McNally, perhaps the idea is for them to play together with the lad from City in a back 3.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Boden hasn't the first clue about anything we do. Got a good gig for himself but, as far as reporting news to fans goes, he's useless.

Just thought, if Oxford turned our bid of 1.75m down and asked for something ridiculous like 3-4m, then maybe we could have been negotiated up to the Ballard price initially. Either way, I’m happy that things appear to be moving .KefkaClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 9:10 amFailed medical sounds likely if we are willing to pay more for Ballard than McNally

So this morning’s news is Collins and Roberts are off, we’re not signing the lad who’s played in the Championship but instead getting some kid on the cheap from Oxford United.
And this is a sign of our new masterplan. Then penny just will not drop for some folk.

On Friday he said Burnley are close to signing both him and Twine. Alex James tweeted on Thursday that signings are u likely this week, and then 20 minutes later jumped on a report that we are getting Ballard. They get a lot of things wrong and usually confirm something when it's 99% done.
On the other hand, you can talk as much as you want about Nixon's personality and his methods of work (patreon) but it looks like he's our tier 1 at the moment. He never mentioned Ballard coming, and confirmed we are getting Twine and CJ. Was also spot on regarding Collins and Cornet last summer.

According to him, CJ and Twine were done deal on Friday. On the same day, Kompany mentioned that we are having a few medicals at the moment and you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to deduct it's probably the two of them. Hopefully, we can announce them tomorrow. He never said that Collins or Roberts are leaving. That might be a wee bit strong Notts, but there's a level of happy-clapping naivety and fairly groundless optimism around that hasn't been seen for many a long season.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Collins and Roberts = rumours. The article doesn't even say that they're off, just that they are on Wolves' radar. No much difference between McNally's and Ballard's price. Profile wise, McNally looks similar to Collins, so he could be a good fit for us, as we have already written on this topic a week ago .NottsClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 9:32 amSo this morning’s news is Collins and Roberts are off, we’re not signing the lad who’s played in the Championship but instead getting some kid on the cheap from Oxford United.

Agreed Notts. Too many on here think it's like playing football manager. Very quick to cast off experienced players and think that these prospects are just going to slot in seamlessly and play wonderful attacking football to boot. Just because we have a big name manager. I fear a lot of people are in for a shock. Hope I'm wrong but the season is very close and we look nowhere near.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 9:32 amSo this morning’s news is Collins and Roberts are off, we’re not signing the lad who’s played in the Championship but instead getting some kid on the cheap from Oxford United.

Ive not heard of any of these players but I've googled Luke McNally, he is 6ft 4in and has been scouted by Spurs so he must be a well known talent within football circles.
On the team in general, any team with a good chance of promotion probably has a team full of million pound players.
Derby got it wrong by buying "big name" championship players and paying them premiership money.
Although none of these players have signed yet they strike me as hungry talented players who will probably view us as their stepping stone, i think we all agree this is where the club should position itself.
