Re: Clarke Carlisle, corporate speaker and mental health consultant
From what I notice about Carlisle that he over-analyses everything. ‘Is it because I’m black, am I black enough?’
He wondered why the media were surprised about my intellect, “is it because I’m a footballer or is it because I’m black?
“Someone one asked me to take the bags to their room while I was stood in a hotel lobby… Is it because I’m black, or did the attire I was wearing make them assume I was a porter?”
The mention of police pulling him over… well, he has every right to question that because the Met police are inherently racist, but that’s another thread
Now, I used to crossed paths with Clarke Carlisle at the the club, and he is one of a few footballers who acknowledges you. He has a welcoming, friendly nature about him and he is approachable. So if someone saw him stood in lobby of a hotel, they could be forgiven to presume he works there because I bet Clarke politely made eye contact with them while there looking for help with luggage. I’m probably wrong, but I doubt it was it was he thinks it was.
It’s nice to read that he’s doing well though, given everything he’s been through after football. He’s a nice fella.

Just to follow on though, I recognise there’s probably something I don’t appreciate as I’m not black or mixed race, so I can’t identity with a struggle with embracing your own identity or fitting in within both cultures… so I’m probably showing ignorance suggesting he is overanalysing it.

Clarke at his best is a really good bloke but I've seen him when he's been far from his best and he is then a difficult person to deal with. At the time, I'd no idea of his issues but you'd struggle to meet a better person when he's in a good place.

You know, i may get blasted for this, but if i'd been convicted of drink driving and then gone on to at least contribute to the death of someone as a result of my actions, I think i'd have the good grace to keep my f**king head down.
He strikes me as an attention whore, frankly and i find it distasteful at best.

My brother has special needs and used to help the grounds staff at the club. Clarke always took the time to talk to my brother and frequently made him cups of tea.

It's a way of looking at it. I don't think its a harsh viewpoint, though I don't think he's being distasteful or do I think he is an attention seeking whore. Though you don't see much of Clarke in the spotlight anymore, and I don't think that his own decision. His media career is over now. He's making an honest living by his own experiences in the best way he feels he can. It must be hard living with what happened though because the ripples of it will always attract criticism.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 4:31 pmYou know, i may get blasted for this, but if i'd been convicted of drink driving and then gone on to at least contribute to the death of someone as a result of my actions, I think i'd have the good grace to keep my f**king head down.

Re: Clarke Carlisle, corporate speaker and mental health consultant
I'd say were both entitled to our opinions.
Re: Clarke Carlisle, corporate speaker and mental health consultant
I sort of agree with this. If I'd have killed someone through my reckless behaviour, the last thing I'd be doing is playing the 'woe is me' card.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 4:31 pmYou know, i may get blasted for this, but if i'd been convicted of drink driving and then gone on to at least contribute to the death of someone as a result of my actions, I think i'd have the good grace to keep my f**king head down.

All I know is that Clarke Carlisle helped us to the prem and did his bit for us. Can't ask more.
He is intelligent, without a doubt.
We all know he has severe issues, at times. That would affect his behaviour. Let's give him some space and acknowledge he is in normal circumstances, a good guy and always a Claret.

I'm struggling to find a post that says you aren't entitled to your opinion? He said you are wrong, and I agree, but he didn't say you should not have your say.

Re: Clarke Carlisle, corporate speaker and mental health consultant
I felt it was a diplomatic way to say that i thought he was wrong, but i didnt think a public argument, especially about this subject, would be very dignified.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 5:00 pmI'm struggling to find a post that says you aren't entitled to your opinion? Did you really not read it that way?
Ah well.
You're also entitled to your opinion.

Re: Clarke Carlisle, corporate speaker and mental health consultant
Have anyone heard Clarkes 2 interviews on “under the cosh” on podcast? Very insightful into his time with Burnley/ managers, but more importantly his mental health. How it affected him, how he dealt with it, his regrets and remorse. Clarke in my opinion is a top bloke, who’s been broken and is mending himself. He’ll always have my support + that passionate speech he made at Wembley should make him a Claret Legend.

I'm on a warning on my account because apparently anything questioning the "mental health" excuses of poorly behaved individuals seems to personally offend CT.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 4:31 pmYou know, i may get blasted for this, but if i'd been convicted of drink driving and then gone on to at least contribute to the death of someone as a result of my actions, I think i'd have the good grace to keep my f**king head down.

My father was Clarke’s form tutor for his five years at secondary school. He’ll be very interested in this piece. Thank you.

Can you let his lenient teacher know too?

This is the finest example of cowardly passive aggression I've seen on here.tarkys_ears wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 5:58 pmI'm on a warning on my account because apparently anything questioning the "mental health" excuses of poorly behaved individuals seems to personally offend CT.

Didn’t Ralph little make a statement about him a few years back? One lacking in sympathy?

Just a bit, there’s no love lost there. Good but extremely complicated guy. Only ever came across him I’m a positive time but hopefully he can keep making positive strides.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 8:39 pmDidn’t Ralph little make a statement about him a few years back? Re: Clarke Carlisle, corporate speaker and mental health consultant
Think Carlisle and Ralf Little shared a house together when he lived in London. I'm sure Carlisle admitted in his book to stealing from his housemates when he was hitting the booze hard.
