Holiday shirt spotting
Been out on Zakynthos for a week, plenty of footy shirts around, and easy enough to spot who they are, but why has ours become so difficult to get right? If I had a quid for every time someone has said “I always liked West Ham, they play good football” or “bet you’re missing Grealish ain’t ya?” I’d have paid for my holiday.
Last day today, and at breakfast this morning, some Celtic fan started harping on (won’t do the accent) “what a good season youv’e had. That Davey Moyes has turned you right around”. Now usually, I “educate” the individual, but this morning I just threw the towel in and went along with it. I’ll be honest, it felt quite good having not been relegated for those five minutes…..
Haven’t seen one other claret tho, which is unusual….

Most Clarets have decided to fill their cars up with petrol instead of going abroad this year.

My German friend (who has been on a few games) text me this week to say that he'd met a Burnley fan in a pub in Nuremberg just by a chance conversation, no shirt spotted. Wonder if he posts on here?!

Re: Holiday shirt spotting
It’s the same here in Oz. I was loading my truck in Ballarat the other week. Wearing my Burnley cap. Every time he put a pallet on he’d look at me, then just said “I give up, can’t work out if it’s West Ham or Villa”? Worst thing, he was a Spurs fan, and this was the literally a couple of hours after we’d beaten them at t’Turf.

Saw a family of Clarets in the passport control queue at Orlando three weeks back. Dad with away shirt and two sons with full kit.

Re: Holiday shirt spotting
I’m in Malta for a week.
Saw a couple of claret shirts in Valletta, including a couple of locals (shirts a few years old)
A old boy informed me that he has been a Burnley fan since we won the title in the 1960’s
His grandson Danny (yep named after ings)
Has been saving his money for 2 years for a shirt.
I gave him mine, he cried. I’m hoping with happiness!

Was in Jamaica at the start of the year. Had quite a few Canadians and Americans coming up to me for a chat when I was wearing my shirt. No confusion with Villa or West Ham. They were all very complimentary and seemed to enjoy rooting for an underdog.

Re: Holiday shirt spotting
It was always bad having to explain who we were in the 4th division days but it was always Burnley holidays.
Everyone in the town had the choice of the same 4 holidays in the travel agents, so Burnley shirts everywhere.

When I was living in Mildura I actually came across another Burnley fan in town..!RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:44 amIt’s the same here in Oz. Re: Holiday shirt spotting
Probably the biggest thing I missed because of Covid was the excitement of spotting fat blokes in football shirts on my holidays. What I didn't miss was people mistaking the Burnley top for West Ham, Aston Villa or Rushden & Diamonds shirts as that really annoys me and can sometimes ruin a good holiday
Re: Holiday shirt spotting
Saw a lad in a Burnley shirt a couple of years ago abroad...went to talk to him and discovered he was Scandinavian (Norway maybe)
He told me he sent away for a Premier League shirt and it was pot luck what you got back...could have been Liverpool or Man U....he got Burnley....didn't know anything about the Clarets but he wore it proudly!

Why would someone mistake your shirt for West Ham etc etc ... Surely the Leeds Shirt is totally differentDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 12:53 pmProbably the biggest thing I missed because of Covid was the excitement of spotting fat blokes in football shirts on my holidays. Re: Holiday shirt spotting
Many years ago I was walking from Cambrailles village (now eaten by Salou) to Salou town when a bloke shouted “hang on!” I turned to see a bloke leave his family and cross the road… “Just wanted to say hello to a Claret”. I was delighted, turned out to be Chris Pearce.

I lived in the same Welsh village as Roberr Plant. First time I saw him he said 'Is that a Villa shirt' so I said '**** off, no. it's Burnley'.
He laughed and said he didn't like Villa. Called me Burnley thereafter. Everyone in the village called him Bob, 75% had no idea who he was.

I'm a bit different, I can't understand people's obsession with wearing their teams colours on holiday, and it really winds me up when people take their football flags to the cricket.

I live in Manilva above Duquessa port near Estepona, easy to spot as I’m usually abusing anyone in a shirt but the mighty clarets. A few Burnley fans around here.

I am the same about it.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 9:18 pmI'm a bit different, I can't understand people's obsession with wearing their teams colours on holiday, and it really winds me up when people take their football flags to the cricket.
I have to admit I am not certain why it irks me but it does. I am proud to be a Burnley fan but the thought of taking a football top on holiday makes me whince. Its isn't snobbery it's just a little odd.
Re: Holiday shirt spotting
You're not alone on this one. I feel exactly the same! I went to Turkey a couple of years ago and there was a group of scousers and their kids - 2 or 3 families away together I think it was. Every night when they went out, the men and kids would be wearing their Liverpool shirts........cringe!!!!
