Lumbered? All 4 have been very good servants to the club.

Bar Gudmundsson, I expect the other 3 to play a big part next season in getting us back up.

We still have bundles of PL experience and if we combine that with a few exciting young players, especially from City, then it could be a good combination.
And of the four - three were bottom of average player ratings for the whole of last season only worsened by Wood

By my reckoning we at the very least need:
- LB
-2 x CB
-2 x CM
- Winger

That’s 6 players, before anyone else is sold, and assuming some youth players come through to warm the bench. Ideally we probably want 7 or 8. Lots to do!

The club have released a montage of those leaving.
Clips of them all in action during games.

Except for Stephens, which is of him signing his contract
They managed to get a snippet in of him blocking a shot against Watford, somehow.

It could be that Ben Mee has turned down the offer of a contract who knows , however his release is a major major mistake by Burnley Football Club . Wether he finishes up at Everton or Newcastle he will be a great acquisition to their team . I have until now reserved judgement on the new board but th silence from the chairman and the inactivity to have a new man in charge ( for whatever reason) five weeks from a new season smacks of ineptitude . I fear it will be a hard season to come

Your first sentence claims he may have turned down the offer then criticised the club for not keeping him ?

Silence from the chairman? What do you expect Pace to come out and say?

VK will be announced and Pace will speak then. Chairmen don’t come out and say they’re gutted we’ve been relegated etc. There will be a press conference for VK and then Pace will do an interview after.

Owners at other clubs or their CEOs have spoken since the end of the season. The deathly silence from Burnley has been very poor.

He’s 32 been a good servant let’s move on and build a team that can actually play football, whenever Mee or tarks tried doing anything else than drilling 60 yds diagonals they looked very uncomfortable
Both great defenders when we were under the cosh which was most weeks in the Prem but hopefully we will be on the front foot in the majority of our games next season.

The shock at our relegation has taken its toll on our chairman and its taken a few weeks for him to realise the true realities of contracts and recruitment
Offering Ben Mee a two yr deal was a good idea but with his injury record over the past few seasons a generous one. However, if he can get better good luck to him

To be fair you’ve been losing it at no retained list for around two weeks.

As it happens most of the PL clubs have released there’s in the past few days.

What’s he meant to say? He would have spoke out weeks ago if a work permit wasn’t holding up VK being announced.

Actions in the window will speak louder than words about being relegated.

Very few players are irreplaceable, but for the extent of his on and off-field contribution, leadership of the team and at times the wider club, Ben Mee comes pretty damn close.

He's won promotion with us from the Championship twice before, and I'd have been more optimistic about him making it a hat trick than I am of our chances of repeating the trick without him. We missed him on the pitch, badly, in the last weeks of the season (several goals we wouldn't have conceded with his intelligence and organisational skills on the pitch), and getting out of the Championship has always been partly about having very strong characters who can keep a level head during the 46 game endurance race. If Kompany has any sense, an experienced centre half will be very high on his shopping list.

Got loads of stick when Stephens signed because I said it'd be a waste of millions for a player that would probably only just sneak double figures for starts before leaving for nothing after 2 years.

Turns out I was being generous on the starts front.

That window completely did it for us. Appalling after just finishing 10th.

Was these kinds of signings that started us on the path to relegation.

Past peak, large wages (for us), no resale value. Dead money.

That was the worst one of all. We didn't need too much in terms of additions but it was a nonsense of a window.

Wouldn't have conceded the 2 at Brentford imo, but others as well as you say, it was him that made tarkowski look so good in my opinion, they were a great partnership in the early days, and maybe they both feel they need a new challenge, but we looked far more open without mee than we did with tarkowski imo.

It will be one extreme to another this year I would have thought. MG favourite saying of "not betting the ranch" I presume we will be exactly doing that on a gamble to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Don't think its a surprise, we've second guessed who would be released ever since relegation was confirmed. I don't think its a bad thing, it will drastically reduce the wage bill and give us a chance for a fresh start. If we'd have had windows we expected over the last 3 or 4 years I'd imagine quite a few of the released players would have moved on a while ago.

Yep I agree with this. I also think whilst Collins looks a class act we will need a more experienced CH to play next to him. If the rumours about Belis are true then we will have two very young (but admittedly good) defenders. The teams that do well in the Championship tend to have a good mix of experience imo.

Very casual way to announce the departure of Ben Mee.
Not really, the captain has been offered a new deal, he's chosen to follow the money and jump ship at the first opportunity.
Don't forget he's played the contract game before will he wont he sign, to get himself better terms.

He's no diffrent from the vast majority, although I'd have thought with him being captain, living local, us supporting him with his coaching badges , his charity around his daughters premature birth etc.

Nope, no loyalty to us in our hour of need, all for a few extra quid.

Not many footballers leave us and go on to bigger and better things.. more money maybe, but better things very rarely.
Enjoy being sat on your backside Mr captain

The centre half signing will be absolutely critical to our chances and that is providing Collins stays put, otherwise it would be two required.

Would think a loan in the Cameron Carter-Vickers mold will occur, he's currently wanted by Celtic.

The Citeh player Harwood-Bellis would be an option but an experienced player who can hack the 46 games is a must.

I agree. I heard we offered Ben a 2 year contract that he turned down. Obviously don’t know how true these rumours are or what terms were offered but in reality he’s 32, only played 21 games last year due to injury, and is our highest paid player. It might be for the best, all things told. I’d have liked to have kept Lennon as RW cover (& general defensive discipline when needed).

Well said, couldn't agree more

Would also have liked to retain Pieters but again read he was on £50k - if so, hard to justify even half of that for a player not expected to start a lot.

That window completely did it for us. Appalling after just finishing 10th.
Yeah, and going further back, the summer after we finished seventh. Pathetic.

Got loads of stick when Stephens signed because I said it'd be a waste of millions for a player that would probably only just sneak double figures for starts before leaving for nothing after 2 years.

Turns out I was being generous on the starts front.
Got loads of stick off who?!! To a man everyone said it was possibly the worst signing ever!

With Ben Mee we’d probably have the best defence in the Championship. Without him who knows. Massive loss.Maybe the new manager doesn’t fancy him. I’d have preferred we had kept Mee and Pieters than Barnes and J Rod.
