Mee testimonial?
Mee testimonial?
Does Mee qualify for a testimonial game, been here over ten years? Would give us a proper chance to say goodbye.
Re: Mee testimonial?
Nice but not practical I think. Wouldn't it be weird if he signs for say Forest one week and the next he's in a Burnley shirt on the Turf for his testimonial.

He has to be granted one by the club but then the club cannot get involved in the organisation of anything involved with it

If he did get one granted and if he did decide to organise one it would be great to get Howe and Trippier heavily involved as a nod to where it all started

Re: Mee testimonial?
If Ben had a testimonial to get the opportunity to say goodbye then he could always donate all the cash raised after expenses to a charity close to Burnley Hearts. A hospice for example or a food bank.
Am sure Ben would be happy to do so.

Re: Mee testimonial?
Seems as though we might not be granting testimonials now - Long has been here for twelve and a half years and didn’t get one.

Re: Mee testimonial?
I could see Ben being the sort of man who would donate all the profits to charity, perhaps to the hospital that helped his little girl?

Re: Mee testimonial?
As great as Ben has been for us it would be crazy for him to be granted a testimonial especially well he's still playing.
And in the days of big salaries plus large signing on fees it's hardly necessary.

Agree unlikely to happen but I'm sure if it did it would be a charity event

Re: Mee testimonial?
I think Niall Quinn up at Sunderland was the first to donate his testimonial money to charity. Having announced that every penny would go to children’s charities, the whole thing went through the roof and raised over a million.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 3:07 pmYep, can't see the point unless the money goes to a local charity.
It’s traditional to give a gift to the players who take part. A year earlier, Dennis Wise had given those who played in his a Rolex watch. Quinn gave them all details on how they could sponsor a child who were in the poorer areas of the world.

Re: Mee testimonial?
Yes, the club couldn't get involved because the money from the testimonial was tax free and if the club was involved it would be viewed as employment income and taxed.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 10:56 amHe has to be granted one by the club but then the club cannot get involved in the organisation of anything involved with it
No idea if they are still tax free. I haven't heard anything about the rules changing so I'd assume so.

He has been paid enough. He doesn't need one.
