Women's Euro 2022 Championships

Post by Rowls » Tue Jun 14, 2022 7:51 am

Anybody got tickets or going?

Having the venues all clumped together and away from the East Mids means I'll have to give it a miss sadly.

Looking forward to it and think England will have a chance if we get a good partisan crowd behind us. It'll be competitive and well fought but looking forward to this far more than I am to the men's games.

Probably watch some games on the telly, the women's game is improving at the higher levels, the problem is beyond the top sides there's a huge gap to the emerging nations, hence why England and others rack up large totals playing the minnows.

England do have a chance, but it's whether they can overcome their semi-final hoodoo.

The winner will likely come from one of England, France, Germany, Netherlands or Spain, although Norway and Sweden could be dangerous for anyone on their day.

Ah, it will just be good to see a major international tournament played in the summer, like it should be

England have a real chance I think

Day out in Manchester with the daughters planned for the first game at OT. Took a chance on the Wembley final tickets as well. Missus won’t let me take my daughters to blokes football so looking forward to it and a good lunch in San Carlos

It is a much different atmosphere. It's so unthreatening it's almost unnerving.

Can be a bit weird if you're used to the usual matchday experience but there'll be lots of girls teams I'd imagine.

It will probably see a boost in viewing figures as a result

I quite like watching ladies football. The skill levels have vastly improved xx over recent years and you don't get the diving, cheating, and play acting. Just good honest football

Totally agree it's refreshing not to see all the nonsense that blights the men's game, and the standard does seem to be improving, should be a good Euro's to pass a few weeks over the normal close season.

I hope they are going to have at least two men commentating/summarising for each match just to give it a bit of balance?

No I wont be watching, I'm sure you'll be boring us all on here to death with it though. Crying about the England tactics like you've any idea, you thought a striker could be offside when the defender passes the ball to him

Agreed that the skill levels have improved. It’s just the goalkeepers who sometimes look a bit suspect. Good entertainment though.

May watch a game or two, but Southgate has really put me off watching England. I know this is completely different, but the stigma is still there for me.

England squad named, several high profile omissions, but mainly due to injury concerns, former skipper Steph Houghton being the biggest call, but she's not played since January, so perhaps not such a surprise for her to miss out.

Katie Zelem amongst those who also misses the final 23.

Katie Zelem is the niece of our former player Peter Zelem. My Burnley girls team played against her at under 10 level. A very good player.

Off to several games, mostly in Sheffield and Rotherham, but also to the opening game, one at Man City academy stadium plus the final. Looking forward to it. Daughter plays for a team, so am sure she's excited too!

Women's International sides were thought to be about the same level as Men's U16/U16 academy sides. I think the standards have gone way beyond that in recent seasons
