First game of the season
First game of the season
When they come out on Thursday who do you think will be our first game.
I'm going for Luton away, on sky Friday night.

Sunderland home or away.
I think whoever we get, expect us to be on TV. Relegated Premier League team with Vincent Kompany in charge we'll be sure to be on TV, definitely if they pair us with a promoted team from League One.

I can see us featuring heavily on TV, and even more so now Kpmpany has taken the reins.claretburns wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:59 amSunderland home or away.

Ideal opening day would be someone like Millwall at home, great chance to get 3 points on the board early, and a few wins in the early weeks of the season could quickly get fans believing again.

Re: First game of the season
I'd prefer an 'easy' start avoiding the big derbies and promotion rivals. Gives Kompany a handful of games to get things running.

Hope it’s at home & a promoted or lower table side. Feel we need to get a few wins chalked up early doors to get in the groove!

I'm really not fussed. We have to play everyone at some point.

Actually I've just remembered I can't make the opening fixture. So scratch that 'not fussed' comment, gimme an away fixture please!

Reckon there's a good chance we'll be on TV, so either Friday night or Saturday lunchtime. Would be a bit gutted if we get a good away day.

Sheffield United away...my local match. That, or Rotherham!

Re: First game of the season
I seem to recall that our record at Bramall Lane is abysmal, and I think Rotherham away would also be tricky as it would be their first home game following promotion.whentheballmoves wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 2:35 pmSheffield United away...my local match. That, or Rotherham!
I tend to think we would be best playing one of the big city clubs at home so that we get a really good atmosphere and it will feel more like a PL game. We generally tend to play better in these circumstances.

Not sure we do otherwise we'd still be in the Premier League.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 2:50 pmI seem to recall that our record at Bramall Lane is abysmal, and I think Rotherham away would also be tricky as it would be their first home game following promotion.

Re: First game of the season
I've absolutely no idea who the first game will be, but I'd be very surprised if the "random generator" picked B******s out first game without being asked to pick another fixture!
To much work for the rozzers on the first day of the season.

Sunderland away. I expect us to be on the 'magic lantern' a lot this coming season. I did enjoy Stan's references to satellite TV when he was our manager...
