Cornet’s agent appears to be hawking him around.
Had a chuckle the other day at the suggestion Cornet might be Chelsea’s Plan B if they couldn’t get Sterling.

This highlights how tough the market will be when a lad who only scored 12 in the championship last season is now worth £20 million.

And how bonkers it is that some people would snap hands off at 10m for Dwight.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:53 amThis highlights how tough the market will be when a lad who only scored 12 in the championship last season is now worth £20 million.

He’s a winger / forward rather than midfield. Like Salah / Mane positioning.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:55 am13 goals and 4 assists from midfield is pretty impressive
20m for someone so unproven at that level, big risk.

18 appearances at Left wing and the rest came from an advanced CM role.
It’s a risk but he’s not going to be starting is he? He’s going to get time to bed in and play. They have three top wingers advanced CMs already at the club.

Can’t see them wanting to give their record signing too long to bed in..Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:04 am18 appearances at Left wing and the rest came from an advanced CM role.

Theyve smashed their record to get him, they must believe he is ready.
Do you remember a club doing that for a benchwarmer?

He will play but to I imagine predominantly off the bench. They currently have three top forwards behind Toney. Be difficult to drop any of them right now.

They’ve got three too forwards behind Toney that are better than their new record signing..
Why are they singing him then?
They’d be better replacing Eriksen.

I think it’s similar to Collins for us. He was our record signing for CB and I think we are all of the opinion he wouldn’t have got a game if it wasn’t for injuries. Doesn’t mean he’s not a top player it’s just progression planning.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:13 amCan’t see the logic in it.

Anyway back to transfers
Ryan Taylor is saying we are still chasing Muric.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
We’ve already got FOUR strikers in our first team squad - Barnes, Rodriguez, Vydra and Twine.
It sounds very harsh but I think we should terminate Vydra’s contract and recruit a young, lightening fast and powerful replacement.

Vydra is not in the squad. He is out of contract
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It’s been said a million times but we HAVE to keep Vydra while he receives rehab for his ACL injury. He’s been offered a new deal but at this stage doesn’t seem to keen on resigning with the current terms.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Could do with getting this one over the line asap. I can imagine we aren’t prepared to pay the rumoured 4m that City want.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:17 amAnyway back to transfers

Ben Gibson was our record signing, joint with Chris Wood at 15m.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:17 amI think it’s similar to Collins for us. Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Vydra is out of contract and receiving treatment through the club as we're obliged to do so. He's been linked with a move back to Derby.
Twine isn't a striker..

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Vydra is presently injured, and may not even sign a new deal, Twine isn't an out and out striker, and both Barnes and Rodriguez are ageing and neither offer us the option of power and pace we're crying out for, so yes I agree we need at least one striker who'll be starting, ideally someone young similar to Andre Gray.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Barnes, Rodriguez and Vydra struggled to score in the PL and imo they’ll struggle to score in the Championship. We need young, fast and powerful new blood up front and the sooner VK realises that the better.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
...and don’t start me on central midfield...
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I believe Newcastle is right. The deal could have cost 15m with add ons based on performance / appearances etc but these were never met. This meant he only cost around 8m in the end.

Not something I have ever seen. He's listed as our record signing every football data website, joint with Wood.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 10:38 amPretty certain it was 15m based on add ons. Pretty sure it was confirmed by the club that it only ended up costing around 8m
Even so, Wood still cost more than Collins.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Barnes is nearly 33 years old and hasn't pulled up any trees for a while... Similar situation with Rodriguez...We’ve already got FOUR strikers in our first team squad - Barnes, Rodriguez, Vydra and Twine
Vydra is off long-term injured and will take most of the season before he's back up again and up to match fitness. He may never be the same player after this type of injury as well... There's also the contract uncertainty with him, so you can't rely on a player who is seriously injured and won't sign a new contract...
Twine is nowhere near an out-and-out frontline striker. He plays deeper than that and any goals from him will be a bonus to his creativity and not be relied upon as the main scorer to gain promotion...
I'm in the camp that Barnes & Rodriguez will do better than most people expect here but we 100% still need at least one new striker to come in!

Agree. And you can add JBG to that list. Can't see any takers for any of them.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
It'd be a big gamble. Young, fast, and powerful might be doable, but any striker who is young, fast and powerful AND who has a proven ability to score, will be taken by a PL club without a doubt. We could only get an unproven one and even he would cost a bob or two.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Vyd's I fear would be an injury prone liability similar to JBG. Financially a bad move for the club to give him another contract
We need fast hungry young bloods up front. VK will have the answer...we just have to be patient.

Not really part a transfer rumour, but the idea that we should be offering a contract to Vydra and that we have some moral obligation to him is bonkers

We have a legal obligation to continue paying him at the moment not a moral one. Also he is a proven player at this level so would he good to retain him when fit.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 11:23 amNot really part a transfer rumour, but the idea that we should be offering a contract to Vydra and that we have some moral obligation to him is bonkers

So, in theory, when Ings ran down his contract, he did so without financial risk should he have suffered a serious injury in his last few games?
I'd always thought that was the trade-off.

I think Lancaster is aware of that. It’s more the point that some are suggesting we have a moral obligation to offer him a new contract. We’ll offer him one if VK wants to keep him.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I still have a feeling that Cornet will stay but more importantly we need a goal scorer, we just don't have the goals in the team with a Chris Wood, Andre Gray type of player.

With the amount players earn these days we should never have any obligation to a player once their contact is up.
