Not really. I’d be happy to see a brand new starting 11.

We could do a lot worse than get someone like Gary Cahill in on a freebie.

Yep, when you consider he was playing Champions League football just a couple of seasons ago it was never likely that he would stay for the Championship.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 5:11 pmCornet’s agent is working dammed hard to make that happen.

This news is so bad. Collins is one of the only genuine premier league quality players we have.

Bournemouth made 75m in sales when they came down and spent a grand total of 0.
Glad we aren’t doing that.

I don’t think we were ever getting £30-40m for a defender with less than half a Prem season under his belt.
There’s bags of potential there, but I’m not sure how many Championship to Premier League transfers there have been for more than £20m. Particularly for a defender.
Us selling Keane & Bournemouth selling Ake for huge fees were anomalies really and both had played more at the top level.

When do we get to ask the question legitimately on asset stripping?
The football club is going to end up the only loser in this whole sorry affair. Exciting times.

I think the aim is get rid of as many Premier league wages, for this season an have a squad to build to such payments when necessary to tie in longer second contracts and allow a firm core to develop as a group. I had hoped Collins would be part of it, we’ll see I guess.

Collins/Cornet/McNeil/Brownhill/ Roberts.
Looks like Collins can be crossed off.
Once clubs get serious about our boys they are off.
Add to Tarkowski/ Mee / Pope /Weghorst.
The exit path was laid some time ago and is irreversible

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I'd say for any of these young players we are signing - don't get too attached to them. I'd say virtually all of them will have release clauses in their contracts which end up being considerably lower than we think it should be.
It's the ALK model isn't it? Sign for cheap(ish) and aim for a smallish profit. I have my doubts it's a model that will get us back into the Premier League any time soon.

And that's why comparing us to Wolves rejecting a bid for one of their players is a totally different context, along with broader financial conditions of course.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Collins looked likely to be talented when we signed him
Stepped in by default due to injuries last season and did well
But he’s far from proven and the pressure induced mistake he made against Newcastle highlighted his immaturity
I’d like to keep him but I don’t feel like we’re necessarily losing a super talented player, just a player with all the right physical attributes and potential

It won't reflect well on Vincent Kompany as an ex central defender turned manager if he assembles a squad that can't defend for a bag of toffees.
Especially as the toffees now have Keane and Tarkowski in their ranks.

No - my point has always been that we should keep McNeil at all costs, as I believe he will dominate this league and suddenly be a 25m+ player again (like Gibbs White now).
Jason O’Connor is usually spot on with Irish players and reported a release clause a while back around 20m, just to add some perspective.

A shame as Collins has the potential to be one of the best but this isn't unexpected; he all but said he was leaving weeks ago after he scored that goal for Ireland.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
New policy of buying youth is only good if we keep our experienced players.
We can't expect to challenge for promotion with Hardwood-Bellis, Egan-Riley, Keving Long and Luke McNally as our centre backs.
It's just not going to happen.
Pace seems intent on accepting any offer we get for our senior pros.
Insanity.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
truly sickening business if so, £20m? and the fkn rest. £10m for Pope was outrageous too.
How much of that £20m is gonna be reinvested? sell a truly incredible young talent for pennies profit and replace him with a freebie kid from Man City and a loan player. We must have brought in 5/6 players and spent less than £10m
£15m profit in January window, we all know which black hole that went into. It's morally wrong player sales are paying this debt, pay for your own f**king seat at the table. I said this from the very start, it's an absolute disgrace the club and team is financially suffering to pay money for new owners.
PSG spent £170m on Mbappe, Burnley FC spent £170m on Alan Pace.
