Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
The strategy is bang on for me - a combination of leaders and youth. If we sign Hendry we have leaders who play for all the UK&I countries except from England in strong leadership roles, Cullen and Roberts are both strong voices for their countries, but we also have the England U21 captain and some ex England full internationals albeit just the odd cap. That’s not a bad mix.
Unfortunately the reality is there are a few different type of sides can be relegated - the huge ones who know they will bounce straight back and can keep players on PL wages, the smaller ones with really good players sought after who have no choice but to sell, then the smaller ones with players not particularly sought after.
We are in that middle group, after being in the last group each other time we went down. Norwich and Watford are in the last group, apart from one or two players like Dennis.
The good thing about the transition is that I would expect wages to instantly go well below parachute levels. That would then also help the debt, not just cash from transfer fees. So there is a good chance we could sustain ourselves at the upper end of this league like WBA at worst, and at best go back up this year or next in a strong position financially.
So in this thread on both incoming and outgoing transfers we may as well be positive, even if we do lose a game or two while they bed in. I can see why some are doom and gloom but football is cyclical.

Apparently Blackpool only want around £3m for Bowler. Go get him!
Get O’Hare as well.
And get Benson too.
All for pretty much the same money as we are getting for McNeil.
We need to see a statement from Burnley in the next couple of signings - not signing unknown/unproven players.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
My biggest concern with the younger players is how will they react to adversity. 4 games without a win and their heads could go.
I think too many on here are forgetting that post-covid prices are down on pre-covid ones. Pope was a steal and we should have held out for more, If Max has a figure in his contract we have to honour that and £20m for Dwight is a fair price on last years performances. Far better to get rid of any player who isn’t up for the fight ahead.

Signing potential works Scott Twine was a non league player 4 yrs ago and is a rising star
Our scouting network has backing now and we are snapping up quality players
We will do well and I expect a top of the league finish. Still it wouldn't be Burnley without the doom and gloom merchants who doubt our chances

Personally think and hope that ship has sailed. Cov seemed pretty adamant and I’m not sure he’s worth the money.
Not sure what he’d cost but I’d much prefer we went for someone like Verschaeren at Anderlecht (given Kompany link) if we’re shelling out big money in that position.
Would’ve loved for us to go for Kouyaté at Metz as well but assuming he’s too expensive so they’ve gone with Hendry.

Personally think O'Hare would be an excellent signing and fit perfectly into the style VK is trying to employ. He has the ability to go past people and this is currently lacking in our team.

This is one of my biggest fears, if we don't get off to a flying start, and there's every chance that we won't, then the grumbles will soon grow.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 10:43 amA bigger concern is how the fans would react to four games without a win. It's vital the fanbase stays with the team and VK, as this won't be a quick fix, it will take time, and patience is a virtue as they say.

The rumours are Cov want £10m, aren’t they? Not sure whether Anderlecht would want for Verschaeren, if he’s even for sale or could attract him but think that’s the sort of bracket that might. Although agree it could be more.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 10:42 amI think Verschaeren would cost considerably more than O'Hare.

Will have to see on O’Hare. I can’t get too excited about it but hopefully proved wrong if that’s who we do end up signing.

Nah, our fanbase is far tamer than it was 20 years ago, almost placid now... We put up with absolute trash last season and away from echo chambers with keyboard warriors like this board, we are actually quite a balanced bunch and not as toxic as many other fanbases... We are certainly not as vitriolic as we used to be so I think we will give them a chance to bed in.This is one of my biggest fears, if we don't get off to a flying start, and there's every chance that we won't, then the grumbles will soon grow.

We were competing against clubs owned by billionaires, people thought we were 'punching far above our weight '. It wasn't different when we were last in the Championship!... All very sterile and we've become more sterile with each year that passes. We are just not a fanbase anymore that runs out players, managers or boardrooms out of the club like we used to do when I watched decades ago and it will take a lot for the natives to get restless these days.We were competing against clubs owned by billionaires, people thought we were 'punching far above our weight '. Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I've put a few posts on trying to lower expectations. It is going to take time to make these players a team. VK himself has said so. It would be fairer to judge these players on an individual basis to start with, see what their strengths are, how fast they are, can they carry the ball, can they play a pass. It will take time for them to gel, and even longer to learn the system. Results are bound to reflect that.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 11:23 amWe were competing against clubs owned by billionaires, people thought we were 'punching far above our weight '. My dream would be we are top half by the World Cup break, somewhere just outside the top 6 by January. IF we can achieve those first two then automatic would be realistic. But there are so many ifs, buts and maybes in any scenario.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Burnley fans are the best in the business in the top division but should it start going wrong in the lower leagues it can get poisonous very quickly. We had a rim of Tuesday night defeats under Dyche when there was a shocking atmosphere about and he never forgot it. Under Ternent it was even worse.Quietly confident VK is going to deliver but placid it won’t be if things go wrong. With such high season ticket sales there will be 5/6000 clarets on every week who have never traditionally supported a mid table second tier team. They will be expecting a lot better and so will I.

Makes you wonder why all these young kids with potential & unearthed hidden gems are only identified & tapped into by our recruitment team & aren’t detectable on other bigger clubs radars who you’d expect to be all over them like a rash.

Hasn’t been linked to us (yet) but City have given the green light to James McAtee to go out on loan, a host of PL and Champ clubs interested. Would be an interesting McNeil replacement for now as an inside 10.

Now that the McNeil move to transfer has been confirmed on SKY SPORTS I hope we are heightening our search for a striker. I think we could get by in every other position, but getting someone who knows where the net is , is vital

And we could "get by" without any new wide men ?
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Hopefully, we will score more from midfield. The players signed look like they might have goals in them and if Brownhill is further forward he could get more.

Not shutting the door to more wide men, but Maatsen and Vitinho could both play wide and we already have good full backs in Taylor & Roberts. For me striker is essential if we want to turn the creativity into goals and points. Not convinced Barnes will hold his place and Jay has his fair share of niggles and injuries

I doubt VK is sure of what his first team is yet, so numbers are meaningless. It all depends on who learns the new system quickest. Everything is up for grabs, so a lot of incentive for the squad.
