Egan-Riley is more of a utility back, not a dedicated centre-back and he's said as much himself. He's extremely lightweight and short for a dedicated centre-half of which he is not!... He's also only 19, has virtually no experience at this level and above and has played all over the park previously for his last club, including right-back and as a holding midfielder...

McNally has never played at this level or above and will take a season or two to get established and maybe Kompany doesn't think he is ready yet at just 22 with no experience at this level...

With respect, Kompany has chosen (or at the very least sanctioned) these players. I'd hope there is a belief that they can play well and hold their own at this level.

Robins didn’t look happy (does he ever) at the pre match questions on the O’Hare injury. Said it was a hamstring ‘tweak’ done in the last kick of training and no idea how long he’s out for.

Maybe the Cov owners want to sell. That would annoy any manager.

Tbh I’m a bit suspicious of the “last kick in training” and “no knowledge of how long he’ll be out” parts of this story.

If he’s out a couple of months, he won’t be fit properly until Jan anyway so best we leave it till then.

Not seen anything on Brownhill for a while, hopefully that’s good news.

Vital we keep him.

I'd say VK is a wise enough bird to know the importance of keeping some spunk around the starting 11. I expect him to stay.

I’d be most surprised if Taylor was let go, unless ALK want his salary off the books. He showed Friday night he has two positions in him. Perfect for the manager.

Brownhill/Cullen/Bastien-all highly competitive, and unlikely to be overshadowed in this Division

It started at 4 months yesterday, and the manager has said prematch that he doesn't know how long it will be.

Last kick of training and a 'tweak'.

Sounds very ominous to me.

Because Robins said he was having a scan on Monday to assess the severity and he doesn't know how long he is out until they get the results of the scan.

Not a smokescreen, we need to move onto other targets and probably did a week ago.

That’s different then.

I did hear last night that the injury was genuine. That seems to confirm it. Although I’m not sure we have held an interest recently in any event.

With respect, why do you think VK is still allegedly looking for a CH and we are still being linked with them?...

Kompany himself, said, 'we need to get bodies in' so although we obviously have tried to get quality in and they have talent, it is still a very inexperienced bunch and as I stated, CJ is not a dedicated centre-back as keeps getting mentioned here all the time...

We are still very lightweight in that department, hence playing a player out of his normal position!... McNally in my opinion was not a Kompany buy but was obviously sanctioned by VK... He might be able to hold his own, but he looks very raw to me and we need at least one CH who is proven to be able to dominate at this level or above and we do not have that...

I don't think people realise how important it is to get promoted in the next 2 seasons so having a smallish and lightweight make-do centre-half out of his normal position who will do a job, will not end well against many of the teams we will face in this division, especially as we are a very small team overall anyway, of which VK alluded to and one that he also alluded to, that might be an issue in future games so it does not surprise me at all that we are still linked with buying a central defender!...

Most of the defensive buys so far, are with an eye to the future... We need an absolute beast in there in terms of experience, size and athleticism or we are going to struggle against some of the more physical and direct teams and VK knows that!

When did he say that? The interview I've seen he said "We'll have to see how it settles down". No mention of a scan whatsoever.

Re: the CB question posed above, luckily our manager is a big beast of a former CB who was the one City turned to whenever they were facing an aerial onslaught. To quote him whenever they were due at the Turf he knew he’d be selected.

So I am sure whatever he does he will end August with a CB comfortable in that style. Watford away will be a big test of our existing guys in that regard, they have some big lads. Personally I am expecting a signing in due course.

Jack hendry starting today for club Brugge so after the apparent first bid we can’t be close, hope Taylor’s good game doesn’t make them change their mind about getting another experienced head at CB

If the Churlinov and Anderson links are genuine then they look like alternatives to O’Hare, so the injury is either genuine or we are trying one last push to drive the price down a bit.

Churlinov and Anderson both look like they enjoy beating a man and look quite exciting.

The answer to the question previously of where all these players fit in….

Benson
Churlinov/Anderson/O’Hare
Options to change shape and the dynamic of a game. Exciting I say.

Well couple of months out is to October. Then he’ll take a good few games to get match fitness/form after a lay off. We break for WC mid-Nov so he’s not going to be much use to us before Jan.

I can’t see much point paying a players salary for him to be on the physios table. Plus there’s always the risk with bad hamstring injury (if it is a bad one) that they reoccur so I’d want to see him fully clear of it if we were spending big money.

Morgan Gibbs White would be an amazing fit. If there is a chance Wolves loan him out again, he would be a great signing with the attacking fluidity.

Bobby Thomas looks a proper player to me. He looks Championship ready now but I suppose a year loan to Pompey then replace Harwood Bellis next season or at least back up for CB would be fine!

Let’s hope Bobby Thomas can hold his own in training or he’ll get kicked all over the place by Danny Cowley’s lot if his Lincoln thugs are anything to go by.

When did he say that? The interview I've seen he said "We'll have to see how it settles down". No mention of a scan whatsoever.

I agree. Will be really disappointed if he goes out on loan.
Much rather he played every week on loan than sitting on the bench with us.Can't see him breaking into our team, and we may yet further strengthen the defence
