I think the current Burnley Board have their heads screwed on. We've done some pretty stellar deals in this window already. Who expected us to get £20 million each for McNeil and Collins? I didn't. We've also had some pretty impressive incomings so far as well. Players who will mature into top players, even if a couple are only loans. Now, it looks like a possible £25 million for Cornet, if we do accept instalments. Even if we only get £17.5 million, it's a decent profit in only six months.Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 1:41 pmDoing a deal with those East end barrow boys won't be easy, they're the London old school and are as dodgy as feck

Nobody has mentioned Cornet's wages yet.
His agent will want a big pay day if he seems to be going to a biggish club.
He's not going to settle for the wages we offered.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
There should also be a hefty loan fee for the season, regardless of what it leads to.
IF we paid 12 mill over 4 years, that's 3mill a year, and West Ham should have to foot that at least, otherwise WE are paying for him to play for West Ham. I'd up it, due to the fact he's worth more , 17.5mill over 3 years, so I would expect 5-6 mill in a loan fee.
I haven't a clue what the 'caveats' are for an option to buy, becoming an obligation to buy, but it all sounds very dodgy. The buying club could just twist it to their own advantage by benching him if it suits. Unless we add some of our own, such as IF he isn't being utilised we can take him back in January and call it deal over.
Far too mirky by half.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Does anyone seriously believe Cornet would be happy to stay if he has the option of a pay rise and Premier League football? If West Ham are after him he’s looking at the added bonus of European football.
The fact that he’s not said anything publicly and has appeared in a few social media opportunities isn’t an indicator of anything.

Second paragraph, I think Cornet’s silence can be read as professionalism. Lots of players have acted out when looking for a move, Harry Kane being a good example.
I really like Cornet and hope he has a stellar career, just a shame it won’t be with us.

But that's the point, surely.
If they leak the release clause then we don't have to sell at any price (if we don't want to), so why would an agent do that.
(Not that I have any idea whether any of this stuff about the 17.5 million is true.)

Just the fact that he's not playing must surely mean negotiations are and have been going on the the background for some time. By all accounts, a popular lad but who cares if he's not playing. Sooner we shift him on and use the money the better for all concerned.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Cornet isn’t daft, staying silent and getting on with it is best way to keep fans happy, he knows he has a clause so doesn’t have to panic and get a move. Ivory Coast didn’t qualify for World Cup so it’s not massively important he’s playing in prem of Europe.
Also clubs know there’s a clause so it’s a case of they know it’s 17mil so they are trying to get a cheaper deal or they are seeing what other deals they need to make first and what funds they have before signing cornet, longer it goes on then you might hear rumblings of cornet being unhappy and less smiley social media stuff around him

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I said yesterday that a lot will depend on whether we are trying to offload Lowton, Long, Norris, BPF and to a lesser extent Gudmundsson. Four of them are in the last year of their contracts (only BPF has more than a year left). If some of those players leave they will leave a hole that needs filling. A loan move for the four players with twelve months left is effectively a free transfer.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 2:31 pmQuite a few for both I would hope. We may need two more goalkeepers yet.
If/When Cornet leaves I would expect Benson and four more signings but it's been that mental so far this summer that it could be any number.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
WHU has missed out on a player. Funds appear to be available to short circuit the release clause up front.

Still need an out and out goalscorer that should hopefully be our priority after Benson is wrapped up. I’ll be surprised if BPF, Norris, Lowton and Long are with us at the end of August and they will all need replacing.

I don't think there'll be clubs queuing up to take the likes of Norris, Long and JBG tbh. More likely we're stuck with them till the end of their contracts.

Re the goalkeepers situation, I can't help wondering why we don't have a No 1.

Dyche, particularly with the forwards and wingers, had to retrain their way of thinking, to make them fit his system.
It's no big deal, or slight on SD, just a reality of the circumstances.
With Vitinho coming on for the last 15 mins, and looking comfortable in that role, it certainly is giving us options, and certainly helps with the need to freshen up for the last 20 mins of matches,or take the opportunity to give some players a break in a long slog season.

Play board: Someone sleeping in a bed, covers pulled over. The clock clicks through to 3pm. The covers are thrown back, footballer emerges claret and blue kit already on, the walls fall away and he's already on the football pitch. Ball played to him. Controls on his chest and he volleys it in the goal. Crowd cheers.
