In principle, we would rather have permanent signings than Harwood-Bellis, Maatsen, and Tella. In practice, could we get players as good on a permanent basis?boyyanno wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 2:47 pmI don't disagree but we have had all window to target and sign players, had more money to spend than most clubs in the division and yet we've still ended up with four first teamers who are loan signings despite our manager stating that they would be the "last resort" kind of deals.
I can't help thinking that a couple of the wide players (of which we are ridiculously well stocked now) should have been loans and we should have used our resources to sign permanent players in other positions.

Exactly this
Also boyanno seems to forget that we originally had the likes of Keane, Mee and Trippier in on loan first, which were then turned into permanent deals.

Gutted about that. He’d have been immense.
Tbf, good that we’re not relying on deals and have back up options. Can’t see this the attraction with this one though. Don’t think he’s scored a goal for Bournemouth & 4 in 28 or something for Galatasaray last term.
For £850k!!!

I think HWB could sign on permanently. Maatsen maybe. Tella almost no chance.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 2:54 pmYou’d hope some of the loans might eventually lead to permanent deals.
In an ideal world and we get promoted, I can easily see HWB and Maatsen coming back, Tella probably goes back to Southhampton.

The thing in our favour with the Brownhill one is he could easily envisage being on the bench elsewhere and playing in the PL with us next season instead, as an exciting cog in the Kompany system that he seems perfect for. Players are short term chaps but I’d be hopeful.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I am absolutely fine with loans and moving on from signings if the price is not right.
Signings are often set up months in advance. Look at Collins, Brownhill and the majority of our signings. They may not have come in the window they were first negotiated. Time is sometimes what is required to seal the transfer.
January is another opportunity. At least with this regime, we actively look for transfers.

I’d be making Brownhill club captain as an indication of his value to us. Think he’d make a good captain.

Loans can be very beneficial to the club just as the examples you've used show. I wasn't anywhere suggesting that's not the case was i? I've no gripes with loanee's. I'd have just preferred to see them in positions that provide back up to our permanent players as oppose to 4 of the first names on the teamsheet. I'd say that's a valid point.
If you don't agree then fair enough but all you and claretonthecoast seem to do is misinterpret everyone's posts to try and start arguments for no reason. Sometimes you'd be better off actually reading what someone says.

I'm glad to see us making a lot more use of loans. Dyche didn't like them and had his reasons but if you can make your squad stronger and achieve your goals with players borrowed from club's with much bigger budgets then why not?Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 2:51 pmThey’ve already stated that they won’t overpay for players, maybe the targets we desired have been what we consider “too high”, so we have moved on to something more affordable , whilst strengthening other areas for prices that we deem acceptable to move on without too much risk

If the loan signings make the squad stronger and are a decent calibre then why on Earth not?
See Maatsen, THB and Tella
It means you have to do a lot of work again in the next summer window when they return to their parent clubs but that's just something you have to factor in to a recruitment plan.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Understand your point, but getting loan players to warm the bench from the Premier League is a difficult sell. Premier League clubs want their players playing week in week out.boyyanno wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 3:17 pmLoans can be very beneficial to the club just as the examples you've used show. I think using loans to secure higher quality players actually states our intentions of promotion this season.
Hopefully a few could be turned into permanents and then we can use the loan market again (2 allowed in Prem IF promoted).

You could argue loans of the calibre of THB, Maatsen and Tella are a statement of intent as far as a promotion bid is concerned
Josh Brownhill is an integral part of that. Far better chance of him staying than if we hadn't brought that quality into the squad

Do show where the latest name linked who hasn't even signed as yet has been announced as a starter ?
Why feel the need to bring anyone else in, if I have misinterpreted your post as just another whinge fair do's but you are never happy. You have probably whinged before that we didn't use the loan market.
As for "I have no gripes with loanees" .. your words... "another bloody loan"
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
IF we get promoted I'd say we wouldn't have much trouble turning Maatsen and THB into permanent deals (as long as we'd accept buyback clauses). Tella would be a lot harder, if he keeps doing what he's done so far Southampton would look at Gibbs-White for a reference point.
Much easier to turn a loan from a top 4 side into a permanent deal as there isn't a pathway to their first team in most cases.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Yep I understand your point too mate. It's a tricky balance to get and I also think I've also read too much into Kompany's statement about how the club would utilize the loan market. That being said I just don't like seeing our own players sitting on the bench while others start. For example Vitinho could suffer as a result of this. But I guess we will see where we end up!

I hope that Southampton dont have a recall clause in Tella's loan deal, if they are struggling come Jan and he has smashed 15 goals in am sure they would want him back
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I wouldn't say that these loans mean we are after promotion. All it means to me is an opportunity to sign quality players (at Championship level) that we can't afford to buy. The three loanees certainly look comfortable at our level.

What are you talking about? I haven't brought anyone else in, you commented on the thread after my comment saying some nonsense about people whinging about not using the loan market and then whinging that we are using it. SO you actually responded to the topic, I can assure you I have better things to do than "pick you out".claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 3:38 pmDo show where the latest name linked who hasn't even signed as yet has been announced as a starter ?

Secondly you say "you are never happy" to anyone who dares say somthing you don't agree with. I'm not a "whinging" poster at all, I just don't play with fat old men who try and act like 14 year old keyboard warriors. Look at my responses to reasonable posters and you'll understand that it's just you mate.
Thirdly, you're right I did say "another bloody loan", is that the same thing as having an issue with loanees? No it isn't. One refers to volume, the other refers to personnel. I'm sure you knew this though.
Not exactly a genius are you mate.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Good point. In my opinion there is not really a big difference between 7-20..... each year there is usually one team that just destined for relegation, but it is cutthroat for the other spots. I believe at least 1 of the non newly-promoted teams get relegated this year. My bet is Leicester.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Forest got promoted last season on mainly loans hence their massive rebuild this summer.......
And Kompany has proven he can rebuild a squad if those on loan cannot be made permanent.
I'm happy with the loans especially the added quality they bring which we couldn't otherwise afford.

Meaning Bournemouth plus two established sides getting relegated.
Southampton's post Christmas form the last few seasons has been terrible but they've always had a decent start to keep them from danger.
This could be the year.
Think Everton, Leicester & Villa could all be in trouble this year.

Certainly does, CP.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 3:14 pmIt certainly makes you wonder what we are paying for the three we currently have
I think there are two factors with loans: what % of wages are paid and sometimes a loan fee.
Apparently his salary is £832k, so I’d imagine if that report is correct, it’s just using his base salary & no fee.
Assuming the others were on the same deals it would be £364k for THB, £480k for IM & £650k for Tella.
In that scenario I don’t think he’ll end up representing best value!!!

The scenario where we don’t go up but think we’ll be stronger the following year but then lose the loaners and have no one to sell to pay off the MSD loans is the worry

Thing is I'd want any loans to be paying at least 50%of the games if possible (not in a guaranteed contract way of course).boyyanno wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 3:40 pmYep I understand your point too mate. what's the point of them coming to sit on the bench? In an ideal world they come, have a massive impact on the field, facilitate improvement in the rest of the squad with their skill and encouragement, and most importantly cost us a fraction of a transfer for one years work well done.
If the loaned makes a significant contribution to take us up and costs us say 2 million on fee and wages, that is good business
