Obafemi would suit us better in terms of profile, but they want £10m which is clearly way beyond our levels of affordability. I think signing a 27 year old who we know is proven at this level for £2.5m (which is the asking price apparently), and is a player that can play deeper, out wide or through the middle (as we know VK wants versatility) provides good options. We have loads of young talents in the door already so the odd 'old head' (though if 27 is old then I am sweating a bit at 35) is no big problem to me.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 2:46 pmYeah i’m probably being a bit harsh but why would West Brom, who need a striker badly, be willing to part with him? And it appears some below average teams (Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol City) are in for him. Obafemi is a far better profile, younger and is used to playing a possession system.

Suspect WBA have a similar financial constraint to us, but the opposite problem- they still need to bring down the age and experience tariff of the squad and add youth, so need to sell to facilitate it - we're a lot further down the journey of selling established stars and we need a bit of proven quality at this level a bit after a lot of investment in promise.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 2:46 pmYeah i’m probably being a bit harsh but why would West Brom, who need a striker badly, be willing to part with him? Obafemi may be younger and better but if he's not viable, Robinson is a good plan B.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I am way more concerned about us maybe selling Brownhill than signing more players. We still have Twine and Westwood to come back in. Squad is pretty strong now except for maybe at CH

From what I have just been reading, they need to get Robinson out to be able to sign anyone - seem to be broke.claretspice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 2:57 pmSuspect WBA have a similar financial constraint to us, but the opposite problem- they still need to bring down the age and experience tariff of the squad and add youth, so need to sell to facilitate it - we're a lot further down the journey of selling established stars and we need a bit of proven quality at this level a bit after a lot of investment in promise.

Last year we'd have signed Robinson to bring the age of the squad down. How things change!claretspice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 2:57 pmSuspect WBA have a similar financial constraint to us, but the opposite problem- they still need to bring down the age and experience tariff of the squad and add youth, so need to sell to facilitate it - we're a lot further down the journey of selling established stars and we need a bit of proven quality at this level a bit after a lot of investment in promise.

I can see Rodgers walking soon, Leicester have had a dreadful window, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they get sucked into the relegation scrap.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 3:21 pmIt's believed Rogers won't get even half of that to reinvest into the squad

I think Leicester are in for a very, very tough season. I agree that I see Rodgers walking soon, and cue Dyche coming in to salvage their season.
But this is off-topic now, so apologies all...........as you were.

Good player is Robinson- always a bit of a surprise he's not stepped up to Premier League level because he has the ability and he's certainly the sort of central forward we could use. At 27 just coming into his prime and he's got bags of experience at this level and something to prove.

That’s not how I heard it (although I wasn’t concentrating). I heard it as we won’t be selling anyone unless the fee has the whole club doing high fives and going on holiday!
I may be wrong mind.

Robinson has played in the Premier League with Sheffield United and West Brom, doing nothing in the process.claretspice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 2:41 pmGood player is Robinson- always a bit of a surprise he's not stepped up to Premier League level because he has the ability and he's certainly the sort of central forward we could use. Still need that centre half though.
He's one of those strikers who barely scores, and plays more out wide. Not really what we need at all.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
I don't know how good or poor Robinson is, I do know that footballers are like gloves, some fit, some don't. United have had loads of great players that haven't fit in their team.
So the question shouldn't be about Robinsons historical ability, but will he fit our team, and VKs system.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Not sure if I’ve missed it or not but the below was tweeted by Graeme Bailey (journo) late morning. Personally don’t think Hendry is the centre half we need anyway.
Believe Scottish international Jack Hendry is undergoing medical in Italy ahead of move to Serie A outfit Cremonese - who have agreed a loan with an obligation with Club Brugge.
Burnley failed to agree a deal with Brugge for the former Celtic centre-half.

1 striker and 1 big center half (Egan?) signing and you must say it was a great window. Promotion favourites I say.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
10m for one or two of the right players should not be out of our price range. We signed AG nearly 8 seasons ago for around 9m.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 2:50 pmObafemi would suit us better in terms of profile, but they want £10m which is clearly way beyond our levels of affordability. That surely implies there is a chance of him being sold to us.
I wonder if we have the Brentford loan/Robinson deal lined up as plan B options in case we cannot agree a few with Swansea?
