given what Kompany said about fee's paid I would imagine the quoted cost for Churlinov will be inaccurate
He was very careful how he put that - it could easily be said we have paid at lot less than the the reported numbers at this stage - i,e. there are either additional payments based on achievement triggers (player and club) and/or further stage payments - meaning that the upfront payment was smaller than the fees reported - and we all know that anyway

He’s only 22. His career to date, which isn’t by any means awful, doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be a success. He comes to mind because I just mentioned him, but glen little came from glenavon for 100k at a similar age. Had Robbie Blake had a significantly more promising career than chirlinov? A very extreme example, but kante was rejected by almost everyone.

Many on here were bemoaning the fact that we weren’t looking at cheaper options in Europe with potential sell premiums. We can’t afford proven players at the highest level. They’re all risks of varying degrees, but that’s where we are.
I don't disagree he could become great, feels like we have one too many of those players though, I'd like to see 1 or 2 in the forward areas of real quality.

Definitely look lightweight which you don't want to be in this or any league.

What also concerns me are these lads battlers? I look at the likes of Benson and his performance last night and have my doubts, we can't afford to have players of that Ike

Actually, battlers or not, they are the only players we can afford.
Early days, and they hardly know each other.

I think the one thing we lacked last night was directness with the ball, it was all very safe. Benson didn't attack his man once, Roberts barely got forward. Tella was **** poor and didn't dribble with the ball at all. Costelloe barely saw the ball and Barnes is never gonna dribble past anyone.

Once Vitinho came on we automatically looked more of a threat because he was direct. Maatsen stepped it up too and started to attack the fullback. I thought the right back Gaspar looked about 50 years old and we didn't attack him on his debut.

Judging by Churlinov clips, his biggest strength is dribbling with the ball and being direct. You can see why VK wanted O'Hare, he'd have commit players and opened up all kind of space for others.

Absolutely correct.

Being a top manager is very easy. All you have to do is get the best players.

Getting those is the problem.

That works at every level of football.

Although in fairness he should have had more protection from the referee I do think he needs to toughen up a bit. Teams at this level will see him as a danger and try to soften him up, which is what Watford did.

Definitely agree with this. Benson looked terrified after he got a kick. Hopefully he’ll adjust and learn to be agressive. Early days.
In general, far too often in the first half we didn’t take risks. Keeping possession is fine, but it’s got to be quick and eventually you have to take a risk, either taking players out 1 v 1 or with a pass. When we are brave we look very dangerous. It will come

I still can't get my head around the fact that we haven't signed a striker/goalscorer. It's the one position we've been crying out to fill since Wood went to Newcastle. Not replacing him last season was our downfall, we just didn't score enough goals. Hope we don't make the same mistake this season.

We do look a team of midgets. Plenty of skill, but I'll be amazed if we score with a header, from a corner or free kick, all season.
It's why we need to keep the ball on the deck. Too many lumped balls last night, and too many short passes played at waist height instead of on the grass. How a player is supposed to control a ball like that........

Still plenty of positives, and I'm sure VK is capable of pointing out the shortcomings , it's how we learn and progress.

Don't get too stressed about it, I've been banging on for ages that we had been one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the PL for the past 2 seasons and that we definitely needed to sign a goalscorer. Instead, they signed a few more defenders. We needed to add more firepower before the start of the last PL season, since it was only a late flurry of goals from Wood that kept us up that season. In the first half of the following season Wood was poor in front of goal before getting his big money move.

Which is surely a better position for a Manager to be in than having to risk your career/reputation on players that someone else has signed? I know I'd prefer it.

Although tbh been okay this summer on links:signings ratio, although better domestically than with European links.

One of my good friends is actually a Metz season ticket holder. He says Kouyate definitely refused to play tonight and a couple of his teammates have called him out on it.

Also said that Salernitana had been in for him, but have signed a different Metz centre back instead, leaving the door open potentially for Burnley.

The Georgian we were linked with scored again tonight, but he reckons Ablie Jallow is the player we would be best taking. I’ve told him we’ve got enough wingers now!

Apparently Kouyate is known as ‘Kiki’. You can bet that the media team will be on standby with some sort of Drake related video if this comes off.

Yes, from what I’ve read tonight, he refused to play after the other centre back was allowed to go for €1.2m. A really low fee, anyway. Presumably he’s either annoyed he wasn’t sold to them or feels Metz are pricing out a move elsewhere.

Here’s the goal the striker got. 2 goals and an assist in 3 now. Decent enough:

Not transfer news, but am I the only one who hopes Forest get relegated and plunge through the leagues? The majority of their support are just toxic and painfulll. Sorry, seems inappropriate, but I would smile. Sure I read they had spent about 100 mill if not more? Crazy money.

That's a different Kouyate signing for Forest, guy at Metz is Boubakar Kouyate.
Thought it was strange regarding the free transfer.

Having never seen BK, it seems silly, but I fancy him and the Ukrainian up front. Probably keep me happy for a few months. Haven't seen either but their press seems promising in both cases. In short, I'm desperate for some height.

Quite a long one but:

Asked if Kouyate to Burnley is gathering momentum since he refused to play.

He sent back a winky face.

Then asked is it happening.

He said should know in next day or two

Not sure I interpret that as he signs in the next few days.

Interesting one though.

Nixon this morning saying Kevin Long and Matt Lowton are available to leave, while Charlie Taylor could be available before the window closes. Adds that Adam Phillips has loan interest and Bobby Thomas potentially to Burton, as Portsmouth loan is off.
