Old chants

Post by conyoviejo » Sat Jun 25, 2022 6:52 pm

Just a fun quiz with a difference..most of us oldies will have chanted these, but what I want to know is the name of the song and original singer/group the chants came from please.

1) What are we living for
to see the rovers in division 4.

2) Whenever you're sad
Whenever you're blue
Whenever the Clarets are playing

3) Come on without
Come on within

4) tra la la la
Tra la la la
We're gonna win the football league
La la la

5) I never felt more like singing the blues,
The Burnley win, and the B******s lose,
Oh Burnley, you got me singing the blues.

6) Que será será
Whatever will be ,will be
We're going to wemberlee
Que será sera

7) We all p!ss in a
Blue and white pot
A blue and white pot

8) And it's no nay never
No nay never no more

9) Oh when the Clarets go marching in
Oh when the Clarets go marching in

10) Tiptoe through the longside with your boots on
Get your head kicked in.

Enjoy..😁👍

3) Is The Mighty Quinn, but no idea of the artist

6) Doris Day from one of her movies.

8) Obviously The Wild Rover, again no idea of the original artist as it's had numerous covers.

I think that may have been the under age version, as a 18 year old I was allowed to chant " You're going home in a fcukin ambulance "

No 6, the Doris Day song, is from "The Man Who Knew Too Much ". An excellent film, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It's on quite often on TCM or Film4.

All I can think that could fit is: Sha-la-la-lee, Small Faces

- but no doubt the penny will drop when someone else names it.

You got a thing about you
I just can't live without you
I really want you, Elenore, near me
Your looks intoxicate me
Even though your folks hate me
There's no one like you, Elenore, really
Elenore, gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well
You're my pride and joy et cetera
Elenore, can I take the time
To ask you to speak your mind?
Tell me that you love me better
I really think you're groovy
Let's go out to a movie
What do ya say now, Elenore, can we?
They'll turn the lights way down low
Maybe we won't watch the show
I think I love you, Elenore, love me
Elenore, gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well
You're my pride and joy, et cetera
Elenore, can I take the time
To ask you to speak your mind?
Tell me that you love me better
Elenore, gee I think you're swell, ah-hah
