Besiktas saying they are paying almost 3m euros of his salary for the season which is around £50k per week. I take it that’s his entire wage off our books.

Thank God.

If it is then even better. Just hope he doesn't come back. Not good enough to play in our Premier League as we saw and an attitude that stunk.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
Might be being a bit cynical but that does look very similar to the claw he pulled out for the Netherlands.
Initially when he came in his closing down looked good and his all round game decent, I felt his closing down/work rate seemed to get worse the longer he was here but I don't think he's as bad as some are making out. He's clearly a technical player in the body of a giant, our recruitment team got it all wrong with him but he did just as good if not better than a striker that we flogged for 25m and most said we would never replace.
His attitude stinks no doubt.

Tot ziens, Wout Weghorst. Best wishes for your season in Turkey. Hope you get the chance to prove your worth in the World Cup for the Netherlands.
I enjoyed watching you play for Burnley. Your goal at Brighton was the start of something good for you and the club. Pity things fell away as the team struggled.
Be great if you are back with the clarets in the Premier League another season from now.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
I was told nobody was speaking to him down Barnfield at the end, good riddance, a club like ours can’t afford to carry that sort of attitude
Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
Looked a fairly good buy in his first few games for us, especially so considering the general assumption that players usually improve as they settle and bed in to the team. Went the other way with him. Useless beanpole by the end of it. His moping about at Watford was about as poor an attitude as I've seen from a Burnley player in a long time.

All the people reckoning he would bang 25+ goals in the Championship won't be happy.
Hope they are covering his wages, he was far too slow to ever be good enough for the PL. Plus his attitude seemed abit iffy, still remember him sulking and being mad at Watford away.. even after the late team win.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
A highly unusual player who was so unsuited for a Dyche team, it was almost comical. Started off really well but just seemed to fall off. Don’t know if it was the intensity or what. Clearly had the typical Dutch arrogance but couldn’t back it up sufficiently.
A dead I know it ‘wasn’t his game’, but his total lack of pace and inability to head a ball was really quite bizarre.

Worst bit of business in the last 25 years ? Maybe even in the history of the club considering what we paid, what was at stake and his wages.

Wout is going on at our club ? Wout did he cost? He played how many games ? We got nothing for him ? Wounder how much a goal he cost. Surely it would have been better to cut our losses and get say 5 mill for him

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
We are getting around €3m in a loan fee and then he's still our player to sell in a year's time. That €3m will pay the next installment for him to Wolfsburg.
Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
From what Besiktas said there is no loan fee but they are covering €2.8m for the season in wages with another €200k dependant on performance.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 6:51 pmWe are getting around €3m in a loan fee and then he's still our player to sell in a year's time. According to Besiktas announcement they aren’t paying any fee but they are paying full wagesClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 6:51 pmWe are getting around €3m in a loan fee and then he's still our player to sell in a year's time. That €3m will pay the next installment for him to Wolfsburg.
Beşiktaş Futbol A.Ş. reported to KAP that the transfer process of professional football player Wout François Maria Weghorst has been completed.
The statement made by Beşiktaş Football Investments Industry and Trade Inc. to the Public Disclosure Platform is as follows:
“The temporary transfer of Professional Footballer Wout François Maria Weghorst has been agreed with his club and him, effective as of 06.07.2022. No rental fee will be paid to Burnley FC Club. For the 2022-2023 season, a net guarantee fee of 2,800,000 Euros and a net 200,000 Euro Performance Bonus will be paid by our Company.”

Not sure that makes me feel any better about the whole saga. An earlier poster showed a release from Beşiktaş saying there was no rental fee paid to Burnley. So not sure which information is correct. Neither are good !!!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 6:51 pmWe are getting around €3m in a loan fee and then he's still our player to sell in a year's time. Once we were relegated from the PL from comments reported he seemed to want out. The Championship wasn't for him.
Well good riddance if that's the case.

we needed around £3m + wages to cover our costs for him this season - this sounds like we are just getting £3m with different messaging saying what it is for - either way the club is out of pocket

Glad he's gone.
While you could argue sometimes things go amiss in translation, comments wise, for me there wasnt anything hiding his patronising-l'm- The BeesKnees- Attitude when his character came out.
Its a shame he isn't nearly as good as he thinks he is.
Roberts did a good job putting him right.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
Showed glimpses of early promise, the assist to set up Jay against Utd, and that cracking finish at Brighton, then he seemed to lose interest, and his attitude isn't what we need if we're to bounce back.
At least if Besiktas are funding his wages that's better than nothing I suppose, but we'll be lucky to get anywhere near our £12m back, even if he does go for a fee come the end of the season.
And I really can't see how he can possibly return to BFC after everything which has transpired in the past few weeks.
Comparisons to Juke are wide of the mark for me, firstly we didn't shell out big money for Juke, and as far as I recall he never once slated the club in public, or thought he was bigger than the club, Weghorst seems to have an ego, and considers the Championship beneath him.
He won't be missed that's for sure.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
Bit of a strange one was the Wout situation.
When he came, I thought oh no, another Dyche head on a pole player, but it quickly became apparent that he was a totally different player to what Dyche would have wanted, subsequently he went on to show a lot of ability and passion in Jacksons early games. Perhaps he was told that the style of play was going to change ?
Towards the end of Jacksons stint in charge, we reverted to type, which was so far from Wouts style of play, he may as well have not been there.
Undoubtedly threw his dummy out at the end which is not what you want from a professional.
Wish him well in Turkey but if we do achieve promotion its best that we don't see him again.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
I’m disappointed with how it turned out for Weghorst. I think he’s a good player but we weren’t able to play to his strengths consistently. I can see a scenario where he returns in 12 months if we get promoted, and I’d like to see that happen as he’s a goalscorer with a good record before coming to us. I’d like to see what he could do in a confident team playing in a way that opens up defences more frequently. We’ll see. I also wasn’t offended by his comments and think they’ve been misinterpreted by his direct tone (a prearranged deal that he wouldn’t play in the Champs so just he was just stating fact), but getting his wages off the books for 12 months is beneficial for us in the short term and the club can reassess next year.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
Laters lad, can’t wait to welcome you back with open arms after we get promoted in your absence. We’ll be honoured to have you willing to play for us at a level you deem acceptable.
Joking aside - I think this is a really poor move. Besiktas seem brassic and I fail to see any circumstance that they will fork over that agreed fee for a (then) 31 year old in 12 months time - regardless of how he does. Then again, what else could we do with him? I imagine the options were few.

I just don’t see a scenario where that sort of players scores goals at that level, I could be wrong myself obviously

Let’s hope that he does well in Turkey else Burnley will be stuck with him at the start of next season with one year left on his contract i.e. virtually worthless and on a massive wage.
The club have gambled big and lost on the this deal and he was miles short of what was needed in the EPL hence no interest from EPL clubs.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
There is a lot of ability in there, I do think in the right team he might have cut it in the premier league. However, he’s demonstrated an awful attitude and we don’t want players like that anywhere near the club.
Re: ARTICLE: Wout Gone
If we are promoted this season (seems a stretch, personally, but if we are promoted) the forwards who get us there deserve on merit to be ahead of him in selection. Though we wait to see how it pans out on the field, we really do seem to have an actual recruitment policy in play this summer. WW was only brought in because of the Wood situation. It was necessary in the moment, but I don't think recruiting him aligned with any particular playing philosophy, nor with any particular recruitment policy in service of that philosophy.Dingo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 7:29 pmI can see a scenario where he returns in 12 months if we get promoted, and I’d like to see that happen as he’s a goalscorer with a good record before coming to us. I get the sense that the Norwich game — and if it is to be believed, the failure to land investment after that result (though I'm a bit sceptical on that) — that week seemed to be a very rude awakening to the reality of the club's state in the chairman's mind, and perhaps catalysed what might otherwise have been a more organic and piecemeal reorganisation of the club's playing side. A large player turnover was inevitable this summer, but there's a certain pattern in the profile of those we're recruiting which is noticeable to everyone, and which chimes with the snippets we've heard from the club and manager since late spring about building a young and energetic, aggressive, risk-taking team. Weghorst doesn't fit at all into what we're seeing on the recruitment front this summer, a recruitment approach we will undoubtedly be carrying into the next two or three seasons at least. Players are coming here to wind up their careers, not wind them down. We don't want fair-weather players, we want players who fight to see their careers advance. For his attitude alone we need rid of him any way possible. He should never see Gawthorpe again. Such a diva cannot be anything other than a disruption to a dressing room, including a young manager and coaching staff, which will inevitably make mistakes this season and next regardless of the division we're playing in; but those are mistakes which must be recognised as moments from which to learn, not moments for poor Wout to lament and sulk about while apportioning blame to his teammates for stifling what he probably sees as his footballing genius.

12th March saw him really struggle at Brentford , and it was downhill from there on.
He didn’t quite know how to be a team player, so he’s off to Turkey for a season; good luck and goodbye.
