Luke McNally Wow.

Post by BigChaCha » Mon Jul 11, 2022 4:40 pm

Have a look at the skills and ball control of Luke McNally in this video!... If you didn't already know he was a Central Defender, you'd think he was a creative outfield player or Striker after watching this... Super impressed -

I don’t really see anything in that video that’s any different to a number of young players I’ve seen training, one to one. I’m not taking anything away from the young man or criticising him but that’s part of every day training to me.

Yes but can he defend, can he win headers, can he time his tackles to block shots, is he prepared to take knocks for the team stopping the ball going in the net, can he organise...I'm much more interested in these things rather than can he tippy tappy passes about..

Good god. I was expecting something akin to the keepy uppy animals from Billy Smart’s circus only to find that it is a very average training video. Thanks for taking away 10 minutes that I’ll never see again.

Be fair the way Luke took the ball down and daisy cut it in to an empty net from 18 yards was a joy to behold. How he kept managing to find the player from 3 yards was gazza-esq. And boy he can head it like Andy Lochead. You're not amateur mate more semi pro 🤣😃😉

It a good job McNally can ping a 50yrd pass and dribble out from the back, because judging him on that clip, he can’t shoot for ****

Can’t see where I’ve intimated that anywhere in my post. All of those things I’ve listed Van Dyke does on a weekly basis, he’s not bad is he?

Incredible what these youngsters are capable of. I bet he can even return the ball from a throw in with a thigh-high volley.

I really don't know why they put out these training videos.
I'm guessing that these routines are used at most pro clubs, and that all outfield players are capable.

not our tape, BB, besides at the least the lad is doing something. All our training videos seem to show is our lot trotting around the side of the pitch. BTW I'd love to see the McNeil equivalent of this - you know, the two-footed thing with the poles

I totally agree about the old videos.
In fact a lot of what they put on looked like the stuff we did in the 70s (at level 9 or 10)

In past we bought a fullback from Reading and decided we use him as a striker with spectacular results.Perhaps we can solve our striker problem again .

Show me training footage of a recent Burnley player that displays anywhere near the technical ability shown here and I'll run naked down the centenary way!

We need to be careful publicising this video, just asking for a top six club to come along and nick him.

It's a basic pass and move video, with a couple of long passes in there.

Did he do in 'pinging' of crosses/shots with his left foot? I didn't see it.

Years ago Aston Villa had a player called Oscar Arce (yes!) who could do keepy uppies all day long but he never made any appearances for their first team.

Mind you Dave Burnley told me he did a thousand but had to stop when his mum called him in for tea. He played for Burnley - once!
