ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
Jeff apparently not required at Newcastle - I still believe we'd have been stronger in the last seasons had he stayed with us.

I also think in hindsight we’d have been stronger had he stayed. But equally a lot of us people correctly predicted he would flop at Newcastle and end up in the Championship.

Re: ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
He'd have proved a valuable squad member at worst due to his versatility, but he wanted to go so I've no sympathy for him now.
Of course it would be typical if he bagged against us, as many of our ex-players seem to do.

Good luck, Jeff. Except when playing against us, of course.

That is more a slight on the quality, or lack of, we had in midfield last season than the quality of Jeff Hendrick. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Never a favourite at Turf Moor but a very competent footballer in my opinion.

A move to Reading says it all. Not good enough, end of.

Worth 10 Dale Stephens.

Another one who left and wasn't replaced. Underrated.

We'd have been stronger with him simply because we didn't replace him with anybody. Although he was good in Dyche's system, his move to Reading reflects his ability.

Well we were certainly better off with Hendrick than Stephens. That Bournemouth goal was one of my favourites I’ve witnessed at Turf Moor.

Re: ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
Never convinced me for the price paid did Hendrick.
Flattered to deceive with a few exceptions. Not bad on the right but definitely not enough skill to affect a game from central midfield as did Defour.

Good player was Hendrick, was the European season when he played in the 10 for large parts? We never really replaced him despite an attempt with Brownhill, don't think Dyche really ever trusted Brownhill or believed in him, same with Mike Jackson when Brownhill was the first player dropped for his initial game. I suspect with the signings of Bastien and Cullen, Kompany would be delighted to get Brownhill out the door.

I’d always prefer Brownhill above Hendrick

Better than Stephens but still meh

Brownhill will be just fine in this league - it's his levelKRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:16 pmGood player was Hendrick, was the European season when he played in the 10 for large parts? Re: ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
We were a proper unit with Hendrick playing, he was one of Dyche's trusted. I felt with Brownhill he lacked the brain of when to sit and when to go forward and as a result the team was incredibly stretched and out of position alot. The results with Hendrick and with Brownhill probably speak for themselves.

I'm amazed at how few on here appreciated Hendrick in that No 10 position.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:16 pmGood player was Hendrick, was the European season when he played in the 10 for large parts? Re: ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
Good solid if uninspiring midfielder, able to play wherever and to whatever system he was asked to and perhaps most importantly, he carried the load of being scapegoat/whipping boy for that sector of the Burnley supporters who always seem to need one. I think Brownhill's made a decent fist of replacing him on the footballing side of things, but we've certainly missed him as a scapegoat; Stephens and JBG have tried, but you need to be playing week in and week out to do that job properly. Irrespective of how things have gone footballwise for JH since his departure, I'm sure he did OK financially and was glad to shake off the dust and bile of Turf Moor; good luck to the fella.

Pretty sure that's when results were at the very best under Dyche in the PL, with Hendrick in that role.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:25 pmI'm amazed at how few on here appreciated Hendrick in that No 10 position.

He will be fine in the Championship.
Re: ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
Some footballers make some really bad decisions. He was wanted here by Dyche but was greedy holding out for more cash, wouldn’t sign a new deal and went chasing the money to Newcastle. Now he’s an unwanted player everywhere and ends up at a team who will be relegated. Reminds me of Craig Bryson.
Re: ARTICLE: Hendrick joins Royals on loan
And what are you basing this assertion on Steve? It’s strange then how he seemed to be linked with us every season and it appeared Dyche wanted him very much. He is indeed a shadow of the footballer he was when Dyche first courted him but if your missus is better than him she would be on the BBC now starring in the Euro’s.

Dyche chased him, and continued to because Dyche seemed to believe that players 30 plus could really perform in the PL.Jamesy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:34 pmAnd what are you basing this assertion on Steve? I know he did, however when Dyche first fancied him he actually looked a decent player. Sadly when he did come to us he stole a considerable salary. Another bad signing from Dyche, of which there were a few.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:38 pmDyche chased him, and continued to because Dyche seemed to believe that players 30 plus could really perform in the PL.
