Stone fans are gutted about the fee, very small cut for them.
Makes me wonder if we’ve negotiated a decent sell on clause with Wolves. Given his potential, if it’s a percentage of profit clause, we could get a decent return down the line.

Yup.
You could make an argument that we've undersold some of those in the past, but we've finally started selling for big money to match paying out big money

This feels an uncomfortable transfer to me.
A player we needed to keep, but we just went for the money.
Could really bite us.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
The key to all good teams is it’s spine of GK CH and CF. We have just sold ( or given away) Pope. 3 x CH and and 2 x CF ( 3 when Cornet leaves)
Let’s see how that works out !

Apart from his abberations against Villa & Newcastle, he has been top drawer for us. Wish him well in the Premiership. He's not the finished article by any means but hopefully at some point he will look back on his Burnley career with fond memories.
Time for VK to reinvest this money now (if it goes to finance the debt, that will be a crying shame) and continue with the rebuild. Keeper, Winger and striker required please.

My response was at somebody who had just posted that he thought we were a good relegation bet at 9/1 !!Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 5:28 pmLets just put this into context
We lost the spine of our team in Mee, Tarks and Pope, and now we've lost the very decent back up
I think THB will be more than fine, but he's only on loan, and I'm sure the others will be fine in time, but its asking a lot for them to fill the boots of the really great players we have lost straight away
And I wish people would stop saying people are being pessimistic because they are looking at stuff realistically
We don't have a choice to do it any other way btw, and we are putting a huge amount of trust and faith in the management team
I posted on another thread that I felt that most fans are in between a feeling of excitement and trepidation. That’s certainly where I am.
Optimistic is thinking we will go up (or walk the league !)
Pessimism is thinking we will be relegated.
I’m neither of these.

Seeing we sold Kyle Laffably for £4 million waaay back in 2009 has cheered me up a tiny bit.
Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
Lots of people talking about "rebuilding" but unless we get promotion surely our best/better players are always going to be sold ?
Either to survive / finance the debt etc etc our owners aren't rich ones unlike some so all our good players are always "going to be for sale"
How can you rebuild / build your team around your best/better/talented younger players when there always going to be sold ?

How have we “ given away” anyone? Mee and Tarks ran down their contracts, as they can. They leave for free as they’re not contracted. We haven’t “given” them away. Pope and Collins chose to leave, Pope had 1 yr left on his contract, and there wasn’t a bidding war. Collins had his release clause met. End of. We can all think we’ve had our pants pulled down, but do you really believe the club would have sold them for what they did, if it was easy to get more? The answer clearly is no.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
I think Ben Mee will prove to be more of a loss than Collins. We need a commanding experienced figure at the back to get promoted and someone who can galvanise a back four.
Collins gave Newcastle a goal start in a game we had to win to stay up. He not only gave the penalty away he gave away the corner that led to it by dawdling on the ball. We need players that don’t screw up in big games if we are to get promoted.
He has a vast amount of potential but we need someone at centre back who has realised it.
If Hennessy leaves we need a goalie too.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
It’s a sad sale as I fully expected him to be the standout player for us this season. You cannot look at the remnants of our centre of defence and feel confident as we simply know nothing about them (bar Long…!). Who knows, maybe McNally plays and we laugh at how little we have missed Collins - or maybe he is massively out of his depth after being thrown in at the deep end? We have no idea yet, but soon will. The entire fanbase needs to show these lads some patience.
Like everything this summer, I refuse to be overly happy or overly sad about the sales and transfers we are making. I know barely anything about these players we’re signing, other than their appearance/goals records and reading their previous fans thoughts - so how can I be either optimistic or pessimistic about them? The proof will be in the pudding.
I wish Collins well - he will be some player, already is really. A sad sale, but let’s see what Kompany does with the cash he gets from this sale. He’s signed six players off the back of Pope going and other players being released, maybe now is where the required leeway is in place to get a proper centre forward. They always cost more.

Every cloud..... He didn't sign for Leeds
Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
A great move for Collins and I expect he'll do well at Wolves. I'd expect anyone in his position to have wanted the move to happen, so good for all parties. I would've liked to have seen him play for us next season but it's a reasonable deal for the club and an approach we need to get used to. That is, we need to be prepared for some or all of our recent signings being sold next summer if they perform well but we don't go up, in which case we'll have identified other young players to replace them. Quite a departure from the last few years when turnover has been pretty static. I think it's an interesting approach and looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

A player who wants to leave is no good to any club, he can go **** himself now as far as I am concerned.

'Wants to leave', 'Release clause' - any of this based on fact, or just assumptions?
Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
Two seasons ago we won 4-0 at Wolves. Now we're in the process of selling the crown jewels and this shows just how low we have sunk and might even sink further. It is a shame and I hooe I'm wrong.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
We beat Liverpool too at Anfield.
It means nothing now.
We are where we are.
All the statistics evidenced that we would be relegated at some point. We lasted longer than any club has ever done in the Premier League era with a budget equivalent to ours.
We have beaten United, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal during our time in the league.
Most teams who get relegated lose most of their big players quickly…..given the budget constraints we had to work with in the Premier League we were never going to be the exception to this.
Let’s hope we can bounce back in next year or 2.

By reset I’m talking about a change in philosophy around the club.
I don’t want to get back to the premier league and then revert to hoofing it up to a big man and having 15% possession.

Really poor sale this one, was he itching to go?
If he was fair enough if he wasn’t then it is turning into a fire sale, poor all round. Big thumbs down from me.

Less than Ben Godfrey? really?

Ben Godfrey went for £20 million didn't he?
Ake - a lot more PL experience, with about 120 games and also a Dutch international.
Yes he was overpriced but it was also City buying and they don't worry about overpaying.

Haaland £54m. Nunez £67.5m. Bissouma £26m. Richarlison £52m. Sterling £47m. Mane £29m.
Just a few fees there from this summer. Experienced and proven players moving from clubs who have money. £20.5m for a player who looked ok in the PL seems about right.

I think if we had stayed up we would have kept him but with relegation and the debts we have it was always going to be difficult to keep him. I do think that Wolves have got themselves one hell of a player who will probably end up at one of the top four clubs. Just a shame we will not see him as a Burnley player any more.

If we had rated Collins we should have sold Tarkowski.
Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
My opinion
It seems a relatively low fee for someone I think (a potential rolls Royce) could have been important this year and brought in more money in years to come.
However on the other hand, he’s still a relative novice. His games had some impressive displays (spurs springs to mind). But those games also saw some naive / costly errors (villa home and away, Newcastle home again spring to mind). For some that could mean they see 20m as a good price.
A lot for me depends on if we have a sell on and how much we may have been due to pay Stoke in future add ons. If we have 25% on future profit then that’s decent. By the latter point it may be that if he played one or a few more games it would have triggered another payment to Stoke due to appearances. So selling now for slightly less as opposed to keeping him longer and forking out a bit more may make sense. That’s just speculation of course and me hoping those at the top know what they are doing and what our players are worth.

comparing with other positions is true nonsense. You don't rate Collins that highly, that's fine. I believe he's got the potential to go to the very top and looked more than ok last season. It’s an indication of the market.
If you’re sat there thinking BFC didn’t get the best deal possible in the market conditions then you’re deluded.
And I didn’t want him to leave, but there’s nothing we could have done other than sell him for the best deal we could get.

Have to say, selling him feels bad but to Wolves - a team who in recent history we’ve historically been on a par with and got decent results against - makes it feel worse.
I thought the same when we got beaten in the friendly, knowing we were playing a very weak CB pairing, one of whom was a loan, compared to what we had previously.
Does feel like we’ve taken a massive cut in quality. To be expected, I suppose, but disappointing.

Couple of people on here saying there is nothing to suggest he wanted to go.
I my be simplifying matters a little, bit signing a 6 year contract for another club 100 miles away, makes me think he wasn’t exactly chaining himself to the railings at Barnfield.
