Forever Forward Forum

Post by Paul Waine » Tue Jul 19, 2022 2:22 pm

A new initiative announced on Club website today.

Sounds like there's lots to suit several on here.

www.burnleyfootballclub.com/content/joi ... ward-forum

Club to launch brand-new fans forum, to expand dialogue between Club and supporters

Burnley Football Club are on the lookout for supporters to join our new Forever Forward Forum.

The forum aims to bring together a diverse range of Clarets supporters who will form voluntary representatives and meet with the Club to share ideas and discuss topics that are important to fans.

Discussion topics will include areas such as both ticket and season ticket pricing, the overall matchday experience, marketing campaigns and improvements to Turf Moor.

"All applicants will be updated on the outcome of their application and the Club will interview candidates ahead of the new season to establish a shortlist of ten representatives to form the forum."

Its a great idea and helps engagement, but is 1 member from each category going to be a very representative?

If only there was already a fans' forum where we could discuss things.

The last attempt at this (The Supporters Board) was not a success for a myriad of reasons, but the intention and desire was there. We were hamstrung for two very obvious reasons after a decent start of meetings at Turf Moor with Dave Baldwin etc. The first was obviously Covid, which stopped the face to face meetings and led to us taking things to Zoom/Teams which just didn't work as well. The second was that it became very clear that the club was losing interest due to the fact the takeover was nearing and clearly they had much bigger fish to fry (and couldn't really comment on what was happening, or commit to many improvement activities due to the fact they/we didn't know what the lay of the land would be shortly).

The idea is a really good one, and I wish anyone who applies the best of luck with it.

Let’s hope it proves to be successful and doesn’t fall by the wayside.

Does supporters groups and other groups associated with the club include this site? There’s a core captive audience with some good and sensible ideas, which it would be a shame not to tap in to.

Strange to miss off 30 to 65 year olds from the list requiring representation. I suspect it’s an oversight.

Sounds like quite a good idea from the club to get a wide range of views from many demographics.

Good to see the club engagement here and this together with the surveys that have gone out on different topics definitely suggest they are taking on board and are interested in the paying customer.

I was going to apply for this but don’t seem to fit into any of the categories. I do have a family but none of them attend regularly.

Happy to hear of any new initiative to involve fans more but not sure just how representative 1 person in each category can be, they're if expected to be the voice of every other fan in the category?

I guess they feel thst the 'family' representative would be 30-65. Although it is a wide age range and the priorities of a parent may not be the same as those of others of those ages.

Will they be expected to be a point of contact for other fans and represent their views? Could become a full time job if that is the expectation though.

Big ask that though, unless you know lots of other people! And, as can be seen on the messageboard, there will be lots of differing views on every issue.

The last lot did, was scrapped after the takeover. It’s a requirement to have something like this.

If I was on the forum I would put forward my own personal views on all subjects where I held a strong opinion. As for representing others in my category, yes I could do that, provided the majority view coincided with a view of my own. I would certainly not put forward a view which was the polar opposite of my own. I would not consider myself to be a fans representative. However I could see a Supporters Group Rep doing exactly that if they were elected by that group. Sounds a good thing but is not something that hasn’t been tried before.

No, they LITERALLY did this exact thing - as I referenced above, it was called ‘The Supporters Board’. You had to apply (just like this) and it included a diverse array of people from minority backgrounds, LGBTQ+ backgrounds, disability backgrounds along with the other categories listed here. It was quite literally the exact same as this, albeit hamstrung due to (first) Covid and then the takeover.

Nothing to do with me personally. There was something similar that was scrapped early in 2021 by Neil Hart after discussion with Alan Pace. It is, as I have said, a requirement.
