Coventry fans
Sorry if posted elsewhere, I have searched but couldn't find a similar topic.
I don't use twitter but read it every now again, as on hols at min a couple of times a day. I search Burnleyfc and twitterclarets and can't believe who alot of Coventry fans think they are. It's mad.
We are fortunate, yes we have come down but seemingly want to invest to get back up, we have bid for O'HARE and it seems like they have a few hundred board members as they are all in the know of how much "They" want and that O'Hare doesn't want the move. The people on twitter honestly believe it's their decision. They also say we are tinpot. Pretty sure we're not tinpot in the Championship, certainly not the way Burnley are doing business.
Would love to see their reaction if it happens. Personally would love it to, Real flair exciting talent is O'HARE, also sends out a rocket of intent.

Posted this before in the transfer chat, proper odd bunch, there’s a dude on there, ‘TheCoventryKing’ is his tag, and he’s absolutely adamant there is no way that O’Hare will be joining us. They basically deny all the journalists reports whenever they say we are in advanced talks, it’s quite bizarre.

Exactly heavyweights like Alan Nixon and Pete O'Rourke? Bizarre. The longer it goes on for the more I expect him to sign an inproved contract with them tbf. He's a fan apparently.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 5:50 pmPosted this before in the transfer chat, proper odd bunch, there’s a dude on there, ‘TheCoventryKing’ is his tag, and he’s absolutely adamant there is no way that O’Hare will be joining us. Re: Coventry fans
Nixon, O’Rouke, James Nursey and Graeme Bailey have all reported the interest with a few saying talks have advanced - all are respected journos in this space. Doubt Cov will be able to offer him anywhere near what we are doing. I guess it’s just down to agreeing the fee, which if reports are to be believed, might not be that far away.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 5:52 pmExactly heavyweights like Alan Nixon and Pete O'Rourke? Re: Coventry fans
Coventry were once probably seen as a decent ish sized club. They’ve been in the doldrums so long they are not seen as a big club or sleeping giant any more. No bigger than Bradford.

Re: Coventry fans
When I was growing up in the 80's Coventry were a serious side, including of course their famous 1987 cup triumph under the late John Sillett
But their fortunes have been in steep decline for decades, and it's only in recent years they've shown signs of a revival.
Now if rumours are to believed Burnley can offer O'Hare 25k a week, whereas at Cov he's on 8k a week.
Hardly tinpot if you ask me, and I imagine we'll be one of the higher wage payers in this league, even taking into account reductions after relegation.
I've no idea if we'll sign O'Hare or not, but when respected journo's keep repeating the same line, you have to expect something will occur soon.

Re: Coventry fans
Coventry have spent most of the last 10 seasons grubbing around the lower leagues whilst trying to hang on to their souless, two thirds - empty football ground cum shopping centre.
We've spent most of it in the Premier League.
We're a big deal at this level. For now at least.
They, simply, aren't.

Re: Coventry fans
These facts and they usually shut up pretty quick. They’re the usual ‘We’re a city so we’re automatically a big club’ lot, despite being desperately poorly supported for a place that size.
Burnley have won the league twice
Coventry have never won it
Burnley have Two Premier League finishes higher than Coventry’s record finish (11th)
Burnley have features more times in European competitions than Coventry
Burnley have a higher average attendance over the course of our history than Coventry
Burnley have a higher record home attendance than Coventry
Burnley have a higher neutral ground record attendance than Coventry
Burnley own their own stadium and training ground
Burnley have a vastly bigger following on all social media platforms

I tend to judge the size of a club by when they last won a major trophy and so by that logic you've got to accept that Coventry are a bigger club than us and that Burnley are a little tinpot.
Nothing to be embarrassed or upset about but just the truth of the matter.

Re: Coventry fans
You are correct about Wigan but sadly mistaken about Newcastle as their recent European trophy was a micky mouse one on a par with winning something secondary like the EFL Championship.
Re: Coventry fans
21 years out of the top flight, don't own a ground.. stadium shared with Northampton/Brum in recent years, during their on and off relationship with their landlord.
Not long since got out of League One. A massive city that until recent years, averaged about 12k at home (look back pre league one, some seasons their average attendance was 9k at the Ricoh)
Yet they call us tinpot.

Leicester won the league in 2016 however Man Utd won both the Europa League and the EFL Cup in 2017 (as well as the FA Cup in 2016) which are both major trophy's and therefore Man Utd are obviously a bigger club than Leicester.
If I get some time and you are interested I could create some test questions to help you practice and make you an expert like me

So Blackburn are massive compared to Leeds based on them winning the PL. Now that is something to be embarrassed about !!!Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 8:35 pmI tend to judge the size of a club by when they last won a major trophy and so by that logic you've got to accept that Coventry are a bigger club than us and that Burnley are a little tinpot.

Re: Coventry fans
The post war history Coventry shares a few similarities with ours (timings different)
- Innovative ownership and management when aligned (probably the most important element) can raise you above your natural level for sustained periods
- It only takes a few bad decisions/transfers/relationship breakdowns in the same season to take you out of the big league
- It is very difficult to get back there if it is not done immediately
- Some 'Innovative Strategies' do not work in al instances, no matter how clever the owners think they are
- Debt can quickly spiral forcing the sell off assets both tangible and intangible
- Climbing back up the leagues sustainably leaves you open to continuously having your best prospects poached
this is not a complete list but you get the idea

Yes Rileybobs.... basically they are weird and no obsessed with all things Claret and Blue, given geography you'd think it would be Villa, but no, it's us because we had the audacity to go for one of their players who they don't even seem to rate. They claim he isn't one of their better players, yet want 10-12 million for him. Odd bunch

Hey,
Coventry fan IN PIECE!!!
Going back through history personally I would say Coventry and Burnley are relatively similar, (granted I'm not an expert on Burnley history so correct me if I am wrong) in recent years sure you guys are definitely a bigger club, you've had the prem, we've had tinpots.
Yeah some Coventry fans are highly deluded, we are not a big club, (someone on this thread had said that because we're a city we think we are big - yes I think some of our fans think like that) but realistically no were not a big club, were not even a big city.
Equally, I think that every football club has a deluded bunch of fans (you guys included) and every fan is entitled to be "xxxxx till I die", and I'm sure you guys have fans that don't want your key players sold, (again no expert on Burnley but when you sold Chris Wood I bet some of you guys were moaning and upset) just like we don't want to see O'Hare sold.
Just please don't tarnish every fan of every club as deluded... Most of us see sense (for the record, I'm not on twitter, or the Coventry fan board actively (I believe I have an account but not used in a very long time) because just like you guys, I think some Coventry fans are morons), but it's the morons that get reactions.
Good luck for the season - just a shame who your manager is (I don't like VK manager or as a player)

Best of luck for next season - I’ve a good mate who is a sky blues fan and you’ve had some **** times in recent history with poor ownership. I think most of us are hoping that ours prove to be decent, but time will tell.
