Watford

Post by IWOODLOVETT » Fri Jul 22, 2022 8:53 am

This will be our toughest test - an away game early in the season. We will be under the microscope - is there a reason it’s a Friday night game at 8.00? TV coverage perhaps?

We will see how our new team copes against a Prem standard team. It will be a good game to get out of the way early on and a proper test for our young team.

Not Prem standard. Finished below us too. But as you say a tough test.

Got my ticket. Watford weren't very good last season, however for 80 minutes at Vicarage Road we made them look a lot better than they actually were. And then the 2 goals in 3 minutes glossed over what was a really poor display.

One of those fixtures that has fallen unkindly because I’d expect Sarr & Dennis to leave but they could still be there mid August. Had the fixture fallen later, we’d have had more games playing our system and they’d likely be minus those players.

Toughest test on paper for sure.

Tough yes but all games will be tough, they've lost a few from last season, but so far they've managed to retain the core of their PL squad.

Let's just concentrate on Hudders first up, before looking too far ahead.

It could be the first game for their next new manager too!

Any team who as kept the majority of its premier League squad will be favourite for promotion and that's why we aren't.

Mid table for us with the possibility of a late sprint that could get us into a play off spot at best

Haven't Watford got rid of a lot of their squad too?

They've lost a few, but so far they've managed to hold onto Dennis and Sarr, now whether they can keep both come the end of the window is another matter, but if they do retain that pair they'll be in a much better place to mount a promotion challenge.

Agree, it'll be a big bonus for them if they keep those two. Without them I don't think they have anything to suggest they're a top 6 team

All you need to contend in the Champ is too be solid, and have a couple of strikers who'll bag plenty, and Dennis and Sarr will bag plenty if they stay.

So from our POV hopefully they'll sell one or both this window. :)

Dan gosling has recently done an interview saying it was the worst dressing room he has ever been in, half the team he said refusing to train and play when it was known they were relegated. Have a feeling the likes of Sarr and Dennis will be unavailable

We’ll see what we’re really up against in this league when the two strongest teams meet on Monday night.

Would have hoped they’d have lost Dennis and Sarr by now but it doesn’t look likely, will be a tough test. If we start how we did yesterday then it will be over before we’ve had a chance to get going. Expecting a few changes to the starting 11 though for this fixture.

Didn't realise Watford play Monday night, will the extra couple of days rest give us a slight edge.

This will be tough, and we'll need to be on it from the 1st whistle, can't afford a sloppy start like yesterday, as Watford will punish us severely with their firepower.

The fixtures come thick and fast in this league. Watford have our game plus two tricky away league games in the next 8 days and they will want to use their key players sparingly. Add in the abnormally high temperatures in the south during this time and for the next week and I’m hoping that Watford will be looking to get something out of the game with as little effort as possible.

As said before we must beware of a quick “ bullying “ start and then build our possession game from there. I think that as the game moves on they will allow us to keep possession and try to hit on the break as they did with WBA.

Good pal of mine is a Watford fan, was supposed to be going to the game with him tonight but plans fell through.
He reckons this match is a marker for the title race and thinks whoever wins is the favourite for the Championship. I still think that's over optimistic for us as we've yet to have more than a good half and for all our possession only had one effort on target against Luton, but I do think if we beat Watford it would be a huge win that really gives us a chance of kicking on. They're my favourite for the title even if they lose Dennis and Sarr, so a result tonight is massive IMO.
Will be interesting as we've had their number in recent years but via playing the physical, efficiency and directness based Dyche style. They are pretty much same as ever we're completely different, can't really predict this one.

This game is a biggie even this early in the season, but if Watford lose Dennis and Sarr I wouldn't have them as favourites for the title, and indeed depending who they then recruit they may even struggle to mount a PO challenge.

I could be wrong but I'm happier facing a team that won't pepper our CFs with high balls. We struggled last week because of lack of height but this will be a totally different game. Really looking forward to this one
