Like me, born in Oldham

Was in one of the Dr Who films and in the Tennent series. Hearing he may well have filmed a cameo role in the upcoming Dr Who specials for next year.

Always remembered for Carry On films, but I liked his role in the Railway Children. Very talented.

He had a hell of a career over 7 decades in various roles, and 93 is a good knock for anyone.

RIP Bernard.

I saw him lead the community singing at Wembley for the Challenge Cup Final in 1988 in front of 80 or 90 thousand people. As a football fan at a rugby league game it was the highlight of my day.Simply unforgettable. A childhood legend. Rest in peace,Bernard.

He had a small role in Alfred Hitchcock's penultimate film, the underrated "Frenzy ".
Bernard Cribbins was a very talented and versatile actor.

Watched him all my life from the carryon's to the Dr Who's he was a wonderful actor. One that sticks in my mind is the episode of Fawlty Towers where hes mistaken for the hotel inspector, hilarious!

There I was, a-digging this hole
A hole in the ground, so big and sort of round it was
There was I, digging it deep
It was flat at at the bottom and the sides were steep
When along, comes this bloke in a bowler which he lifted and scratched his head
Well we looked down the hole, poor demented soul and he said
Do you mind if I make a suggestion?

Don't dig there, dig it elsewhere
Your digging it round and it ought to be square
The shape of it's wrong, it's much much too long
And you can't put hole where a hole don't belong

I ask, what a liberty eh
Nearly bashed him right in the bowler

Well there was I, stood in me hole
Shovelling earth for all I was worth
There was him, standing up there
So grand and official with his nose in the air
So I gave him a look sort of sideways and I leaned on my shovel and sighed

Well I lit me a f** and having took a drag I replied
I just couldn't bear, to dig it elsewhere
I'm digging it round co's I don't want it square
And if you disagree it doesn't bother me
That's the place where the holes gonna be

Well there we were, discussing this hole
A hole in the groud so big and sort of round it was
Well it's not there now, the ground's all flat
And beneath it is the bloke in the bowler hat

And that's that

RIP Bernard Cribbins

Perhaps one of the first 'novelty songs' by him was 'Right Said Fred'. Around 1959/60 as I recall. Very talented RIP Bernard Cribbins.

Whilst, for all I knew, he had already passed away I was really saddened by this news today. Had such a likeable persona and seems to be in so many things during my childhood. Brilliant in the Railway Children and Right Said Fred is a classic

Met him once in the restaurant at Thames TV in Teddington. Really nice bloke. He told us a tale about him and comedian/actor Bob Todd remeber the "It's beef!" ads?) They had been in the bar and went out on the terrace overlooking the Thames. Bob Todd started a "clay pigeon shoot" using the crockery from the restaurant -cobbing plates and trying to hit them with other plates. I don't think they hit so many but they got a substantial bill off Thames TV for replacement crockery!

He spoke very fondly about his days in Yorksire filming the Railway Children. A sad loss bvut a hell of an innings.

Saddened me to hear this. He’s made me smile and often laugh all my life, great memories of a great performer. I’ll remember I’m a Womble, and have a cup of tea, then I’ll go home. God Bless you Bernard Cribbins RIP

Growing up in the sixties, Bernard cribbins was always on the tv, radio and the big screen. A versatile, loveable British great who's career spanned what must have been 75 years. A national treasure. RIP Bernard

As said above, growing up in the 60’s and early 70’s, he was always on the telly. He played the spoon salesman in Fawlty Towers, but Basil thought he was the hotel inspector. Absolutely hilarious. Brilliant performance by Bernard. Very sad news of his passing. A true gent. RIP Mr Cribbins.

Sad news. A great actor/comedy actor. Alongside all the other great things people have mentioned I also remember him as a regular on Jackanory when I was growing up. From what I’ve read about him he sounded like a genuinely nice guy as well.
