Barley was very quiet yesterday...

Post by Mala591 » Thu Jul 28, 2022 4:43 pm

Only half a dozen cars on the car park and only a couple on the road beside the car park. I’m worried for the local businesses. Get up there this weekend to give the local economy a boost.

Can't make it until Sunday, but will be there with the dogs if you think it'd help.

I'll be going out on a walk this weekend but haven't chosen where yet. Photo looks lovely.

Any good walks around here? How would one support the local economy - any decent pubs or places to eat you can recommend?

On the off chance this isn't a wind up:

Lots of good walks up, down and all around the hill and surrounding areas to suit all abilities.
Two very good pubs, both dog friendly, both serving good food and good beer.
The Cabin on the car park also provides hot and cold food and drinks.

Plenty of witches will be there in September.

The Witch Walk…
Is a circular walk, starting at 11am from Barrowford Park to make the Witchfest more of a challenge. Witch walkers can choose to walk either 5 miles to Roughlee or 7 miles to Barley, both will start and finish in Barrowford Park. The route includes some countryside walking, so ensure that you wear good footwear such as walking boots and look out for surprises along the way. For those taking part in the walk, make sure you join the festival on your return and are included in the Guinness World Record count, but if walking’s not your thing then just head straight to the festival in time for the count.

Anywhere that is free. The great thing about Barley is the locals are kind and courteous people who are happy for anyone to park wherever.

You're better off accepting the kind reserved spaces the locals save for you.

There's usually some cones saving a few spaces when I go, and sometimes some even say CCTV in operation so your cars also safe too.

Plenty of handy gardens to use as emergency toilets too

They actually are. And as hilarious as the comments are about parking on people's driveways are, they only gripe post lockdown was that elderly disabled people were struggling to park outside their houses. The introduction of double yellow lines to allow passing places for farm vehicle now means there are no problems around the village (apart from the dog ****)

Macca makes this joke everytime...my Father lives in Barley, he has all his life and leaves a cone outside his house. He has severe mobility issues...again Macca...******* hilarious.

I go up Pendle on a very regular basis , always park on the road next to the car park, which is always empty at the time I arrive, however the thing that annoys me more than anything is the people who have parked in the bus turning circle when that is clearly impeding the local services.

incredibly, despite bring registered disabled, he can't. If he needs to go out at weekends my sister needs to travel over to take him out.

I should imagine there are hundreds not attending Barley simply because it has become such a tourist trap. I go in the evening but try to avoid it otherwise because its like kin Blackpool on the hill most of the time.

To be fair, you don't need that much space to park a broomstick.

You're right, i do make this "joke" each time.

I play a long with parking / no outsiders welcome joke people have going on.

But at least you are aware it's a joke so won't get too upset or offended 👍🏻
