The positive thread
Right it’s new season day.
Let’s all be positive and get behind this new team today (I know hypocritical before anyone points it out).
Looking forward to seeing Twine and Bastien. I really really hope Tucker gets some minutes I loved watching him for the U23s.

Wow I’m feeling positive just by seeing the word positive alongside ‘NewcastleClaret’
Also share your excitement in seeing Twine and Bastien, though I’ll also add Maatsen to the mix, while I hope to see chances for Tucker and in particular Richardson too.

Re: The positive thread
I would love to see Maatsen today he’s my signing of the summer so far.
However I’m just not sure Kompany will want to disturb the back line any more than necessary (if that makes sense) for tonight’s game
Re: The positive thread
Yes agree. Though I wonder whether Taylor will be used at LCB like against Newcastle. On the clubs training video from yesterday I didn’t spot THB again - though VK did say he’s available for selection.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 7:31 amI would love to see Maatsen today he’s my signing of the summer so far.

Hoping that we can get off to a great start first and foremost.
Just over 12hrs to kick off before we get to see the new look clarets.
Here is to VKCABA..

On Maatsen, Alex James' article this morning suggests that he is expected to start.

They are the most ‘match ready’ but perhaps Twine for his creativity / set piece ability.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 7:40 amInteresting. Wonder who’s going to be playing the advanced roles behind the strikers
I assume Bastien and Brownhill

Re: The positive thread
Off work this week so I’m setting off from Chesterfield soon to zoom to the Turf for a new shirt (and possibly one of Vinny’s caps) before going for a few beers pre-match in Huddersfield later on with my Dad.
Very excited for tonight, regardless of transfers.

Will be at my desk and in meetings for most of the day so hopefully won’t drag too much.

Really looking forward to the new game and a new chapter. Will be strange seeing so many new players. Not sure Twine will play. VK seemed a bit coy when asked if he was available. He obviously is available but whether he’s match fit or not is another matter.

I would have no idea who has the ball half the match if I was sober so what is to lose

Re: The positive thread
Got to be positive 1st game of the season, and at least we'll have the interest of seeing how our glut of new signings fare, plus how Kompany will merge them into a unit, as well as playing attractive footy.
Twine's one who really excites me, though whether he'll feature tonight is doubtful given his lack of minutes pre-season.

Re: The positive thread
Like most I'm looking forward to the new season. I think the football we play will be positive and entertaining but I still have this niggling doubt that we might lack goals unless we bring in a new striker.

I agree Firthy, but I think VK will realise the need for another goalscorer and I'm fairly sure we'll sign one in the next couple of weeks.

Re: The positive thread
Such massive resets don't come around often and this kind of clean slate is quite rare. While there are no certainties or givens in football, I love the fact that this is completely wide open and I have no idea how this season will go, or at least I have no preconceptions. This inclines me to being positive anyway. Previous years have been quite predicatable (albeit not always on a match by match basis). I couldn't go through the fixture list right now and pick out where I think the wins and defeats will come from, that ought to make the first 10-15 games or so really exciting... Really curious to see how we go!

I have this vision of us playing fantastic high speed football tonight, taking Huddersfield by surprise and winning comfortably.
It doesn't hurt to dream sometimes.

I've no idea what the starting eleven will be but surely this will be a record for the number of players making there Burnley debuts in one game.

Re: The positive thread
Muric,
Egan-Riley, Harwood-Bellis, McNally, Maatsen,
Cork, Cullen
Vitinho, Bastien
Twine, Rodriguez,
Fits them all in, though I doubt it, really.

Re: The positive thread
Really looking forward to tonight and the season in general. I think the mixture of new younger players we have added to the squad with hopefully more to follow, as well as younger players who were already here who hopefully will get a chance (Tucker, Richardson, Thomas etc) combined with the players who have experience at a higher level will give us a really good squad. I’m going 3-1 tonight to Burnley I think we will have too much for them.

If the old regime was still in charge Huddersfield would know what to expect and so would we, this is exciting now we have options to play different ways.

Quietly confident, the only worry is around how quickly the new team can gel.
But generally upbeat.

I’ve not been this excited about a new season in a long, long time. Patience will be required from the fans but I’m quietly confident for what’s to come! UTC

Really getting worked up now looking forward to a new era but can't help remembering going to Watford for the start of the Waddle era.

Looking forward to seeing how we play tonight, the system, the players and fitness.
In view of all the changes from top to bottom, a 0-0 result away would be a v good start. If we can nick it 1-0 all the better. A clean sheet is so very very important in this game and will boost defensive and team confidence going forwards.

Re: The positive thread
There is nothing to be positive about.
It’s the Championship.
A exceedingly long season of drudgery interspersed with the occasional decent game.
Poor standard of Football and an even worse standard of refereeing.
A new manager, team and system which will take time to bed in. So an extra level of frustration and argument after every game.
Television fixtures that will be moved, more Friday night games with today’s exception will be a pain.
Local derbies loads of them, as well as the return of the parochial chip on their shoulder clubs and their fans.
The return of outdated chants your mums your dad, Burnley’s a shithole etc.
Not being able to travel freely to watch your team play it’s local rivals.
I was trying to think of a positive and came up with no VAR. Then I remembered the standard of refereeing in the Championship and realised how much I will miss it.
Hope that’s positive enough for you Newcastle, now you know how we all feel when you post on a thread

Re: The positive thread
I'll do my best:
-Bastien represents an interesting signing of a possible lost his way gem, Twine has a solid profile for the chance to step up a level, and Vitinho is so out of the box I can't help but be intrigued how he does.
-It's the first time in a long time I've had absolutely no idea how we'll line up or had any clue what to expect from score or performance, which if not quite exciting is again intriguing.
-Lots of TV games first two months which as someone whose living arrangements make it hard to get to many games now means I'm not missing out on much compared to the Prem.
-If we don't know what to expect neither do Huddersfield.

I'm excited to get football back and I'll back a win tonight even though I have no idea what to expect. We could have the next Diego Penny, Fernando Guererro and Remco Van Der Sh!te, or we could be the best team the Championship has ever seen.
