Blackpool physicality
They seemed an incredibly fit, strong and mobile team.
I think they bullied our team at times. Going direct certainly worked to there strengths

That's the nature of the Championship so it's why we'll need to adopt a different approach at times.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 5:43 pmThey seemed an incredibly fit, strong and mobile team.

And why we still need a dominant centre half.

Re: Blackpool physicality
They also got away with murder constant kicking and niggly fouls without receiving bookings
The refs down at this level are horrific

Re: Blackpool physicality
You need to be willing to mix it up in this league - people are happy to pretend Dyche played terrible football in the Championship but it was effective and at times fantastic. He played a mixed game, and it paid dividends.
This teams philosophy is so fixed currently that it leaves us looking lost when it doesn’t work, and leads to farcical errors like the Muric one today. Teams with promotion aspirations need to be willing to assess situations and use common sense to utilise what is needed - not every competitor will be easily brushed aside with a swashbuckling style like Huddersfield were, as is becoming abundantly clear.

Re: Blackpool physicality

That was Josh Bowler, one of their best players.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 6:00 pmNo idea who there number 11 was but he destroyed our midfield and back four in that second half
Whether he will still be there come September I don't know.. he's been linked with a few PL clubs, most recently Nottm Forest.
Re: Blackpool physicality
Bowler was excellent, has been linked with a move to the Prem
Re: Blackpool physicality
Dyche's teams played very decent football in the Championship. Decent enough to get two promotions. They were also physical when required. Decent football and physicality is a requirement this division.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 5:49 pmYou need to be willing to mix it up in this league - people are happy to pretend Dyche played terrible football in the Championship but it was effective and at times fantastic. Re: Blackpool physicality
We are lightweight which makes it easy for teams to bully us. Never saw any team bully a Dyche Burnley

Re: Blackpool physicality
It’s the first time in ages that Blackpool, Blackburn, Preston and ourselves have been in the same division and that’s going to mean a lot of physical derby matches. A bit more physicality and game management wouldn’t go amiss

Re: Blackpool physicality
I think we will soon start to see what sort of manager and how good a manager Kompany is. Will he change and adapt to the league we are in and the skill set of the players available or will he stick to a "philosophy" (hate that term) regardless of results.
Ok, we need to be patient but part of good management is getting the crowd aligned with what you are doing. If we keep making the same defensive mistakes people will rightly question the style. Everyone is learning on the job at the minute. Just hope that involves some pragmatism all round.

Re: Blackpool physicality
We will get bullied in most games this season.
Just look at Benson at Watford .
2 tackles in 2st 10 minutes and he didn’t want to know after that.
Same v Luton , they bullied us.

Second half maybe. To be fair I didn't think they were overly physical. That's what to expect at this level. In fact I thought they played some tidy stuff in possession when they had it.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 9:35 pmHe was a level above anyone else on the pitch today

Re: Blackpool physicality
From the time VK was appointed, I advocated to maintain a strong (British) backbone.
We need a strong and tough CM and a centre half, who can add some steel when the flair isn't working any more.
Also, please don't get rid of Charlie

Thought he was excellent in both half’s tbh. But he was definitely better in the second.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 9:40 pmSecond half maybe.
