Pathetic

Post by DanH90 » Sat Aug 20, 2022 5:45 pm

Fans booing after a 3-3 draw and 5 games of the season.

Muric -1st goal clearly an error but I’d rather see us playing out from the back than lumping it long when we will inevitably lose a 50-50 and it will just come back. What does concern me more about him is the fact that he doesn’t come off his line.

Cork/Cullen -teams have worked out that if you stop these two playing you stop us playing. Cullen was on a booking and was scared to put a tackle in after that point so we lost the midfield, Bastien should have come on for Cullen after an hour.

Jay Rod/Barnes - if Jay cannot manage 90 minutes then we desperately need a new striker, and the rumours that we aren’t considering one and it’s not on the agenda are a concern. Barnes cannot play in this system and is past it.

We aren’t far off -but the fans were a joke. It’s ironic that most Burnley fans will think we lost today because we passed it around too much, when actually we lost it when we stopped playing football.

It will come -I’m convinced of it.

Fair point but he should never have put Cullen under pressure for the first goal , should have put it in the stand very poor decision.

Excellent post. Completely agree with your summary at the end and I said the same on the Muric thread. Soon as started hitting it long we lost all control.

Plenty of it at full time im afraid, I had some choice words with a couple of them let’s just say. They’d have been the same lot moaning about long ball last season as well.

Smacks of Eddie Howe the second so far. Need to toughen up and quickly or it’s going to be a long slog.

Just re-read my post and I noticed I said ‘lost’ twice even though we drew. That’s because you’d have thought we lost at the final whistle when the booing began!

Agreed.

Barnes was abysmal and embarrassed himself when he came on.

Bastien should have been introduced a little earlier to steady proceedings , and I think Churlinov shouldn’t have been brought on unless the games was more or less won . Unfortunately we threw it away today, but I think if VK irons out the silly mistakes then it will all come together !

If Muric learns when a punt up field will suffice then we won’t make those mistakes

I was at Watford and the fans stood directly behind us were moaning and groaning all game. It was so tiresome.

"Just hit it long". "He's so sh1t."

Completely ruined the game for me.

Ashley Westwood was polite about it on Clarets Player, but was clearly perturbed by the lack of patience for our new style. He was keen to point out every move we started from Muric.

Booing is not on at all but as has been mentioned already this is Eddie Howe-esque. That team, regardless of the amount of new players, should easily have enough to batter Blackpool.

We must be the one of the easiest teams to score against and it needs addressing ASAP or we’ll be nearer the relegation places than promotion come the end of the season.

I’m ok with the style, we are creating more than enough to win games.

It’s the other stuff we need to tighten up on and quick.
One of them is getting two centre backs in the team.

No excuse for booing, annoying as the draw is today there's far more positives to take then negatives, and this is a young team who need backing not booing for heaven's sake.

Fine to express your frustrations on this board, or other social media if you must, but booing at the game is totally counterproductive.

I think sometimes criticism comes from fans not identifying the system. Putting myself in that too by the way!

Roberts, for example, is getting a fair few pelters and I thought I'd focus a bit on him when watching the game today. He isn't playing as a wing back. He tucks in to make a back three, and sometimes a midfield three with Cork and Cullen. Rather than being wide, the furthest he got forward today was an underlap through the middle to the right, to get onto a Vitinho (I think) pass. It's obviously tactical.

So sometimes I think maybe supporters are expecting different things from players because of a) what they've done previously for us and b) what supporters are used to.

What I see and the issue is balance.
Music was doing the same thing over and over again so Blackpool knew to push up and press . Once he played it long a couple of times and we did get possession from it they had to drop back. You need the balance.
Same with the wingers. First 30 minutes I don’t think they passed once to Vitinho so Blackpool just put pressure on the other side. Once they started using Vitinho Blackpool were spread out more and gave us more space.

I didn't hear any booing. I though we didn't win because our defence is not good enough. First half was marvellous but I don't care what anyone else thinks Muric is a liability at times.

We need Vincent to play centre back and get van Dyke on loan. Some thinking to be done about our defence.
Up front in the first half, thought we were excellent.

I didn't hear any booing so hopefully it was a small minority.

Agree with the majority of the OP. The only thing I would question is the defence of Muric; I'm not suggesting he should be hoofing it (although there is a time and a place when he needs to) but he had options further up the pitch which he didn't take, choosing instead to pass short to players under pressure on the edge of the box. I don't disagree with the philosophy but the decision making was poor too many times today. The one right at the start of the second half seemed to set the tone for the half.

It’s all well,& good playing like city, but even though City had a few lightweight players ,they also had Fernandinho who was a monster in midfield,& took no prisoners,I think we need someone who can dish it out a bit ,or we’re going to get bullied every match.

There's a time to simply boot the ball as long and as far as you possibly can and there's a time to keep it, and pass it around. Somebody needs to learn the difference.

I’ve got my tin hat on so here goes. I don’t think Charlie Taylor fits this system. We need a dominant centre half and a centre forward that’s got some pace and can hold the ball up and play others in. Too slow from the back through the middle. Hopefully it'll eventually gel but what was disappointing was at 3-2 you just they would get another, in fact we were lucky not to lose that 3-4.

I'm not, for some people the general theme of decline is a continuation it doesn't automatically start again because pretty much everything has changed, what happened last season isn't instantly forgotten about despite everything being new bar Barnes JR & a few others.

Fair point but he should never have put Cullen under pressure for the first goal , should have put it in the stand very poor decision.
I think where he can he should play it to the fullbacks or the center backs when they go wide, and Taylor was on for the pass on the left but he played a ball to Cullen center of goal who when he lost it was always going to bring trouble, it happened in a pre season friendly i think where Cullen lost it and we gave a goal away.

We are learning in every game, but suspect today VK learned new things. But you dont need to be the manager to know that we need a strong centre half, bringing on Barnes makes us weaker, we need to learn how to "game manage" , maybe watch some of our games under SD three years ago ,and we need a striker as Jay will not be fit for a number of games. We must also now know our strongest team so maybe less tinkering

well I'd rather be disappointed with a 3-3 draw whilst playing good football and creating chances than getting kung foo kicked in the face by Man City. At least we are competitive at this very early stage.

I had boos around us and people shouting get the ball up and get in the box etc. No matter how much you try to explain that the minute that happens we lose control of the ball they just don't get it.
I think every BFC fan needs to wat h this unbiased view of what the team are set up to do, and trying to do, and are actually foing it well. I do agree our defence is shocking and needs sorting out quickly, but we are still early

I didn’t hear booing but a guy was shouting for Muric to be hauled off after the 1st goal error. Everyone just ignored him as he looked foolish. There’s nothing wrong with criticism after the game on here but getting on players backs won’t help.
