We've got Scott Twine, so we'll be just dandy next season.

Re: Relegation form?
I don’t think relegation is possible (got too much quality). However I will say that this season the championship looks very much of a muchness. No stand out candidates for relegation or promotion.
I think we could see a low points tally get promoted (perhaps around 80).
Then a high points tally get relegated).
Not quite sure what side of the coin we fall on tbh.

We're averaging 1.2 points per game. We'll be ok.

Problem with this board sometimes I find it hard to tell who’s being serious and who’s trolling. Think this is in the latter.

We are going to get better
We have quality signings who are starting to gell
The first half was superb and with our new cb coming in we will start to win games

Re: Relegation form?
Away defeat singular.
I actually think we'll pick up more points away from home with this possession based game.
Last week Norwich were bottom and this morning were fifth.
Absolutely no chance we'll get relegated!

Re: Relegation form?
I agree with Newcastleclaret93 (twice in a day, I need a lie down ); it’ll be a low total going up this season.
Re: Relegation form?
You didn't need to be a savant to predict results would be a bit choppy while the team settles. What we're seeing results-wise is what most people expected, at least based on the threads on here during the summer. Visible signs of what we're trying to achieve are abundant and some of the play in some moments has been better than I could have dreamed. But young players are making daft mistakes as they often do, and Kompany is learning about the division and his own squad on-the-job. Transfer business still needs concluding. There's a shift in playstyle, but some fans are impatient and obstinate, and the team needs to learn to deal with their heckling and groans. All these things were predicted before a ball was kicked in earnest by anyone with a sober head. It'll come together within the next few months, and I think we'll be fine.

I don’t get your logic, you used the phrase we are three points of second to suggest the OP was crazy. We are also only three points of the relegation spots and they a game in hand.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 10:35 pmIt might be worth the discussion on your planet, not on mine.
Like I said I don’t think it’s likely but it’s not as crazy as your making out
Re: Relegation form?
Had we kept most of the old squad I'd have agreed, but we've replaced the entire squad, and this can't be swatted away like it's nothing. There are moments when we look as a team far too good for this division, and it's in these moments where I get my hopes up and believe we're still capable of winning the league outright, but then reality slaps me around the face and I see our weaknesses being exposed, and our relative lack of experience costing us, and that just overall contributes to a sense that it's probably going to take a bit of time to iron out the small details that are costing us games. We're not being buttered and spread on toast, which is calming for me, but I think it would be beneficial to be realistic about what this team is capable of at this exact moment. If we're to be promoted this season, it's probably going to be from a huge surge in the second half of the season. Because of the direction the club took vis-a-vis the squad overhaul, we were always going to be weird until at least the depths of winter.

Re: Relegation form?
Nobody should have expected anything, it was always anybodies guess new players, new manager, new system.
The points return is about as expected, the performances have far exceeded my expectations. Averaging 70% possession is unreal, at any level of football.
With a tiny bit of luck, we could easily have been top of the table with 15pts. I'm not bothered, so far we are ahead of schedule imo, so booing the players, despite the frustration, is pathetic.

Re: Relegation form?
We won‘t get relegated but we won‘t be in the top 6. mid table.
To get into the play offs we would need to stop giving the ball away at the back. VK’s thing of trying to pass the ball around at the back no matter what even if you are odds on to loose the ball does not get you promoted. People can defend the keeper passing it out to players who have 2 men on them and are odds on to loose it all they want but it doesn’t work, you have to know when to just clear it. We will not keep clean sheets this season and to win games we will have to score a load, we would need a striker as well to do that. Both don‘t look likely to happen. If we finish top half it will have been an amazing result playing like we are.

Fulham ran away with league last year
Lost 10
I think we have enough quality there to be as good or better than their side that went up apart from Mitrovic

Re: Relegation form?
I don't think any team we've played so far this season has outplayed us.
If anything it's been the other way round in most games if not all.
That's the good news and the fans seem to be warming to the way we're playing.
Kompany has a clear way of playing and has brought in some decent players.
Whether he can get them to gel together and progressively improve is the leading question.
There a lot of teams in the Championship who are set up in specific ways
and will prove difficult to break down.
But so far we've proved difficult to beat albeit we've not shown we can finish off teams.
A couple of decent signings and Twine coming good might make the difference
but it might not be for a while yet.

Re: Relegation form?
What did anybody seriously expect getting rid of so much proven quality & replaced with inferior unproven quality & that's including the manager, it's a club in decline heavily saddled with debt we haven't reached the bottom yet but I think they'll be a turning point & the green shoots will appear, far too many people care about the club but some are yet to wake up to the dangers that are ahead.

Re: Relegation form?
For me, it’s not about this season. 10th spot will be an over achievement and a good turn out. That’s why I enjoyed the entertainment of today,
Considering the financial situation of the club, the signings we have made- if we don’t make it back to the top flight in year 2 or year 3 then it really has been s**t or bust.

Re: Relegation form?
We won't be anywhere near the relegation spots. but the question remains do we have enough nous and quality to challenge for the PO places or better.
Worth noting if we'd have won yesterday, and we really should have garnered all 3 points, we'd be sitting a mere 2 points off the summit.
You'd hope as the season progresses we'll only improve as the team begins to gel, and there is already early signs of this in our attacking play yesterday, so just sort out the issues at the back, and get a new CB and CF and we'll be right in the mix.
Nobody is looking a class apart in the league, so absolutely no reason we can't at the very least mount a serious run for the top 6.

Re: Relegation form?
Not quite, baring the points deductions last season would have seen 48 points good enough for survival, so we are well above the curve.
Possibly will drop below it at times this early on whilst we are coming to terms with the league, it's physicality, our new players bedding in, and finding/recruiting our final/best 11.
However overall I think we will be a top half side, possibly better depending how long the aforementioned takes to achieve.
Come back to me on the 1st international break ( mid September? ) and we should be able to gauge roughly where we are looking most likely to be battling in the table.

Re: Relegation form?
The aim has to be an average of 2 points per game which would just about guarantee promotion so wins at Wigan and WBA plus home victories v Millwall and Norwich would put us back on track with 18 points from 9 games......is this possible ?

Re: Relegation form?
If you want a Sunday morning chuckle this thread is comedy gold.
I'm only thankful my comments were reasoned, although even I wouldn't have predicted we'd be strolling to promotion in early April.
For context this was in the aftermath of the 3-3 classic against Blackpool.
Good that we didn't continue our relegation form though isn't it.
