Deserves more respect.
Never mind ‘found his level’ - he is a good player enjoying a new lease of life in a new role, under a new manager.

It was great but (and only from the video) what I liked even more was him arriving for his first - really good signs for the more advanced midfield position.

Re: Brownhill
The second goal is a great example of a championship goal as opposed to a premier league goal. The defender gets turned inside out and the keeper gets beaten at his near post. That doesn’t really happen in the prem and certainly not against the top half teams.
As for whether it’s his level or not really depends on the position he is playing and the setup. I think if we had played more of our season like we did as a team away at Brighton he is definitely a premier league player. The difference now is he plays in a team against poorer defences with greater emphasis on keeping the ball, passing and moving.
I think when people suggest he will get ten goals I reckon it will be nearer twenty if not more this season.

Never any doubt in my mind he’d be a good player at this level. He’s proved it before. The more forward role is suiting him and his finishing is improving. Glad we’ve got him. Comes across well too in interviews.

Thing is, if people are interested in buying him, we can hold out for a ridiculous fee (for the championship)

Ever since I have been supporting Burnley, players have regularly come along and suddenly we see a real development in them, and we see them becoming top players. Steve Davies, Geoff Nulty, Glenn Little,Richard Chaplow,Wade Elliott. Can think of numerous more. Seeing Brownhills progress under VK makes me confident that Brownhill could become the "Championship version" of Frank Lampard. His progress in a couple of months has become incredible. We must hold on to him this window

I think it would need to be £25m+ to be considered, which I hope is big enough to keep people away.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 8:22 pmThing is, if people are interested in buying him, we can hold out for a ridiculous fee (for the championship)
That’s right - I wouldn’t sell Josh Brownhill for less than £25m. Imagine saying that 12 months ago. He’s been awesome.

Should have said-brings comparisons to the value of Martin Dobson, who apart from being one of my all time favorites and midfielders, he was like having an extra striker with his regular goalswarksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 8:35 pmEver since I have been supporting Burnley, players have regularly come along and suddenly we see a real development in them, and we see them becoming top players. Re: Brownhill
I am pretty confident we won't now be selling any of our best players in this window because one very interesting dynamic now is that Kompany basically has Pace by the balls.
Pace simply can't risk a fall-out with VK now.

If you’ve backed that you’re nuts
Seriously - the lad is doing well but think of the players England have in midfield:
Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Phillips, Elliot, JWP, Gallagher, Mount
There’s no chance

Re: Brownhill
Seeing him embrace VK when he got subbed, I don’t think Brownhill would want to leave to warm a PL club’s bench.
I hope no teams come in, though, because I’m sure Pace would be desperate to cash in if we were offered £25m.

You’re not alone. I was on a team trip up Scotland back in ‘78, When this was in the charts. Team song and I’m getting fingers pointing for singing “in the rain”.
We even got the team bus dancing to it one memorable night in Ayr. Half the team rocking to the left as the other side jumped into the air and vice versa. The Jockos loved it.

I think if we went up he would be twice the player he was in the prem last time.No doubt it’s a different standard but I think the new position and kompany backing him to get in the box etc as been the difference. He could be a top player if he keeps progressing looks a cut above this league at the minute.

Having said that, he’s gotta stay in my opinion. VK has to be telling Pace “that’s enough outgoings”.

To be fair to the “naysayers”, there are a lot of players who haven’t looked like footballers during the last 12 months.
I think most rounded folk could see that tho….

Brownhill always thought he was one of our best players, and I always thought he was never able play closer to the forwards
He has been empowered by VK, and all the better for it.

It seems the only reason he wasn’t able to play closer to the forwards, was that he was being shackled and playing to the system he was told to.SouthLondonexile wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 9:43 amBrownhill always thought he was one of our best players, and I always thought he was never able play closer to the forwards

Re: Brownhill
Agree with this. For all the new signings I thought Brownhill, Cork and Jay were our best players on Saturday, along with Vitinho. And to say he hadn't played for such a long time I was very impressed with JGB. You don't sustain a place in the top division for that long without having good footballers. Obviously, the level isn't the same now so they will shine more but the way some people talk it's as if we were a John Beck side full of cloggers.

Sounds like we did issue a ‘not for sale’ warning to some interested PL clubs yesterday.

A key piece of non-business so to speak. He's looked hugely impressive so far and if he can maintain that he'll be one of the best players in the league this season and make a massive difference to where we end up in the table.RVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 7:51 amDelighted to see JB still with us.

Relieved the window has slammed shut and we've retained Brownhill, his goals might well prove the difference between top 6 or top 2.
