Car exhaust advice please
2010 Astra 1.4 petrol
Been told it needs a complete new system and been quoted £540 supplied & fitted
Does that sound a bit high or about right?

Re: Car exhaust advice please
Not a bad price. Whether it’s worth spending that is another story, depends how long you plan on keeping the car.
Re: Car exhaust advice please
Doesn't sound out of place as a price ... but it would be worth going online and checking out a few suppliers
Re: Car exhaust advice please
Depends if that includes a catalytic converter, they're not cheap for any car, check online for the price of parts only.....usually just need your reg for the correct part. If it was a national chain that quoted you, I'd get a quote from an independent specialist

Re: Car exhaust advice please
Thanks for the replies.
It was a national chain but we only called in there as they were only ones available today.
Will try local garage I normally use for repairs/service etc tomorrow and also have a look online.
Just wanted to get some idea if the £540 price was in the expected ballpark which it seems it is- we like the car so do want to keep it it another year or 2

Re: Car exhaust advice please
Why does it need a whole new exhaust?
They normally snap on the flexible joint right under the engine...
National chains are all about making as much money as possible and they'll quote you main dealer prices and fit aftermarket brands.

Sounds expensive, whats the issue with the exhaust,I would say they are replacing the Catalytic Converter as well. Exhaust main issues are they corrode and if fitted the flexible joint splits and blows. If you have an engine management light illuminated it could be cat related.I would most definitely get a second opinion because these national chains just quote menu pricing and lump everything together.

Re: Car exhaust advice please
Got stung by one of the national firms once. Was told needed full exhaust replacing at a cost of around £400 a few years ago.
Car was only just over three years old.
Went to a local independent. Just needed one section replacing£100.
Have always avoided the national firms since then.

Seems a bit pricey that.
Go local and shop around

National firms are notorious for being rip off merchants. I always take mine to a bloke I know who has his own garage. Independants are a million times better.

Sounds very expensive to me
Try Rossendale exhaust centre 01706 217092
He will probably give you a price over the phone but I would advise letting someone else have a look in person before buying a full system

Re: Car exhaust advice please
My 12 year old C’eed (why the apostrophe, has anyone ever found out, even Top Gear didn’t know) gets exhausted on hills. When I complained that it only reaches 90 on a hill I was asked why I thought that was bad and I replied ‘ I live at 120’.
Think I’ll quit now.

Cheers for the advice guys, will be doing some shopping around tomorrow
Re: Car exhaust advice please
Had similar in the past, go to a independent garage or buy an exhaust online and pay someone to fit it. Kwikfit quoted me £500 but got it done for not much more than £100 a couple of years ago.
