Killjoy or worried

Post by pureclaret » Mon Aug 29, 2022 11:46 pm

I was lucky to be at Wigan on Saturday and what a good win for us, However I was disapointed to be very close to where flares were thrown from the back of the satnd over the heads of hundreds of people, some did not make it to the pitch, Now I am worried that although I did not hear of any one being hurt, they are not designed to be thrown in or round people.

They are illigal to be taken into a stadium never mind being set off, they also are dangerous and can burn people, also if the smoke is inhalled it can do damage to your abilty to breathe, peolpe who have asthma etc could have an atack if they breathe in the smoke.

If someone is injured the club whos fans have thrown this can be likley to have snactions and fines against them, and under new legislation being considerd the club could sue the fans seen throwing such itmes.

I also witnessed 2 people trying to breake the seats, Why would you do that? is it because you are stupid, !
Because I was enjoying the game so much I did not get involved but in future will take pictures and forward to the relevant authoritys

the pricks causing trouble will eventually spoil it for the majority. It's happening at every single club.

I took my little girl to her first away game and probably won’t take her to a game like that again, I’ll pick and choose as I should have known every idiot in Burnley would choose this as a game to go to.

Sorry to hear that, I’ve been taking mine occasionally for a while and soon realised there are games to take them to and some to avoid.

Sheff Utd, PNE.. Blackburn obviously will be the same and won’t take my daughter. Although these are the games my lad is insisting we go to now he’s a bit older. He loved the ‘edgier’ vibe at Leeds last season. I don’t mind really, as you say just pick and choose.. there’s something for everyone.

My son was burnt albeit, only slightly on the back of his neck from a bellend who through a lit cigarette. We were also jumped on every time we scored by a coked up k nob behind us.

What concerned me most was a family in front of us with two little girls - what if, God forbid that these girls got hit by the flares, hit by coins or hit by the lit cigarette or trapped between seats ! What makes people do this ? Through things into the crowd ?

It’s getting worse with these idiots for sure - so no, not a killjoy ! Something needs to be done

Killjoy.
How can you say this person is a Killjoy. Have you no sense. Like the other posts say it only took a cigarette to burn someone. How would you feel if it was one of your family members who got burnt. Times have changed last season I witnessed something I have never seen before on the way to the ground. Someone sniffing something. I suppose it could have been snuff. But I don't think so. There have always been issues at football matches but it just seems to be a ticking time bomb in the Cricket field stand. Manny years ago, like most people who have supported the team for a long time they will remember the netting separating the two sets of fans on the longside. I remember one young lady getting hit by a dart.

We don't want to get back to those days.

Also, what happens if a so-called fan lobs a flare from whichever side into the other's area. Will we have another Bradford or something similar. I know that was stored flammable material. But no one thought that would happen.

The only way the authorities will deal with it is if enough people just get jacked off it & stop attending which will happen & is happening albeit on varying scalesizes, most people want enjoyable days out spending their money & time not to be worrying what's going to happen, hit em where it hurts is the only thing which will see action not enough people are getting hurt & not enough people aren't attending for the powers that be to take serious notice & deal with it.

Are these flares, or are they smoke canisters? Whichever they are, it is not the thing to do, but flares could cause really serious injury

I've made a decision this season to give the "away day" experience a miss as I
don't want to expose my partner to the brainless clowns that purport to support
our great club, even though they are a minority.

It seems that the decision was justified according to reports from friends who
attended Wigan and reports on here. At least at home we have our chosen seats in an
environment that suits us, whereas away seats are very much a lottery as to what
you're allocated.

Diappointing to say that I'll be giving it a miss this season, which is a shame.

Yeah, it’s a shame, I’ve got her a ticket for Preston but it’s unlikely I’ll take her now, I know she enjoyed it but I was really on edge especially under the concourse, I’m also very aware that this isn’t just a Burnley issue, a large number of clubs will have the exact same problems. I’ll take her to the less popular games I think.

Although not a fan either, they are smoke bombs not flares. Huge difference.

I thought Burnley fans fans behaviour was superb all day. I was expecting a little trouble with such a big following, but the train via Manchester was good natured.
A couple of thousand in Wigan Town centre all enjoying themselves.

Wigan could have done better in their organisation though.

Big queues for the first set of turnstiles when there was another set further on you could use.
Our tickets till us to use staircase 6, which was shut. The nearest entrance was the disabled section which loads tried to get into thinking it was the entrance. Poor steward had her work cut out.
Lack of stewards on the concourse meant fans fighting their way through bar queues to go the toilets.

A pleasant walk back to the centre and the Clarets fans queued patiently in in a packed out off licence for refreshments afterwards.

Great day all round.

As has been said, away games are the luck of the draw where you are located - the closer to the opposition fans the more likely to have issues.

This was my 8 year old nephews first away game and luckily we were in block 2 so the other side and had no problems at all. He loved it, and hasn’t stopped talking about it (the score line obviously helped a lot)

The flare buisness needs stamping out if one of those things hits you in the face you will know about it.

The thing that riled me though was what happened at Preston Station when a Rovers fan and his 6 year old son
were abused by literally 100s of traveling clarets, he went onto say that they were thankfully saved from further abuse by railway staff who ushered them away to safety.

Foolishly the pair of them were wearing Rovers shirts not exactly a sensible move when traveling by rail as Preston Station is a flash point for football trouble

That was misleading

Our ticket said NS2, so we entered via gate N2 then had to walk the length of the concourse, which was a challenge as starting to fill up

There was a surprisingly large amount of people queuing up for the cubicles in the toilets, there must have been some dodgy beer in Wigan town centre.

We had to fight through the entire concourse too and then found our entrance closed.
There are some seats cordoned off, so I can why they have done it, but it would be easy to write the correct entrance on the tickets.

There was similar with a 19/20 year old Blackburn fan at Preston. A real sour note on what had been an excellent day travelling on the train.

Someone lit a red smoke bomb a few rows in front of us after the 1st goal, it may have been his first time as he dropped it then struggled to get it from under his seat leaving him to take most of it himself.

Never really got the fascination with setting one of yourself, you can't see a thing once you set if off, the smell is a bit s**t and you could potentially miss the rest of the game if seen or even banned.

Not a smart move by clubs letting you pick and choose your own seating location as all the bell ends are picking the back rows so they can cause mischief

You are making a huge assumption here in that you are assuming that these pathetic
excuses for human beings have the basic power of rational thought. In fact, if they had
a brain they would be really dangerous.

Still a good move from the club. Each away game this year has been a view I like towards the back.

Last season spent most of the games close to the front (which I dislike).

Surely the point of buying and taking in is not to just chuck ?!

I was a bit apprehensive going to Wigan on Saturday after reading some of the threads on here.
I needn't have worried. It was all good natured in the town centre before the game, no trouble walking to and from the ground, and, apart from people smoking on the concourse and in the toilets, and vaping during the match, nothing to concern me inside the ground.

I understand why it could be considered foolish, but why should a 6 year old not wear his team's colours for fear of abuse from grown "adults"?

I'm getting very concerned about "fan" behaviour. I absolutely won't be taking my kids to any away games. It's clear where we are headed; but it won't be stopped until someone is seriously hurt or worse.

Quite frankly I'd have a simple, lower threshold. Random checks before the game as a condition of entry: any illegal items = lifetime ban. Better CCTV: any throwing, vaping, smoking, standing on seats, charging towards stewards, letting off flares, constant goading of fans = season to lifetime ban depending on severity + police action as required

If you slowly reduce the number of idiots then you will reduce the problem

Didn't see anything untoward, just a lot of jazzed up lads having a good time. All seemed good natured to me. Helps having a stand to yourselves though.

The only issues for me were the lads who just find a row and stand in it, no matter who is already there - kids, old folk, theyre not bothered. Probably had a bit to do with the widely anticipated double printed tickets though, there were loads of people with the same seats.

I do not know if one or the guys 2 rows back from me had set one off himself or just near it but his face and hands were covered in a blue dye/ subtsance powder that did not come off when he wiped his face and was still there when he left some 30 mins after it went off. now to me that means if you had breathed it in that same stuff would be in your lungs and throat. (it may not have been a smoke bomb it could be he had robbed a bank and got blue dyed , either way he looked stupid.

Sounds like he was a Wigan fan who mistakenly went in the wrong end and was frantically trying to get his blue Wigan coloured paint of his face and hands so he could blend in with the away fans

I’ve got what looks like a snakebite on my arm
When Jay Rod scored a flare hit me on the arm and I looked down and there were 2 little burning embers stool in my arm, brushed them off and a little trickle of blood and no lasting harm.
But I didn’t think this could be dangerous to eyes
The lad next to me new looking white trainers are now white and claret

Felt left out on the vaping front around me certainly the new trend! The multiple people standing round one seat is annoying especially for those with young kids. It was mostly good natured but imagine it would have easily changed had the score been the other way round.

Foolishly the pair of them were wearing Rovers shirts not exactly a sensible move when traveling by rail as Preston Station is a flash point for football trouble
A kid should be able to wear his team's colours at a train station. Take football out of the equation, and can you imagine blaming the dad and the kid for being abused by hundreds of adults?

(Not a dig at you btw, more a dig of the culture of 'well, you know what football fans are like, tsk tsk')

Sounds like you were sat near me (block 2)
He was sat the row behind me further along.

I don’t recall anything going off around that area during the game though

I was stood next to one of the exits and one thrown from the back (a blue one)...presumably used thankfully...smacked against the handrail next to me and fortunately for me went the other way and down the steps. Was showered with the used powdery stuff inside.

Braindead....and a s*** throw.

Have a think guys yeah?

I'm sat watching the F1 qualifying at Zandvoort in The Netherlands and Q2 has been red flagged due to some clown throwing an incendiary device onto the track!

They have been a part of the Dutch crowd following Verstappen for quite a while now but F1 are taking a stand and have recently banned them from the tracks.

It isn't just a football problem it seems.

And the guy responsible has been expelled from the event.
