Muric 7 couple of decent saves and only the one moment where my heart was in my mouth when he came charging out for a cross that hadn't even made it to the box!

Roberts 7 worked well with JBG, quite restrained in his attacking play but not really tested defensively.

THB 7 solid as a rock. Not really troubled all night

Taylor 7. See THB. Covered well when last man

Vitinho 7 would probably have been higher but for some reason we chose not to use him when he was in decent advanced positions.

Cork 8 Rolls Royce of the championship. Calmness personified and doesn't look to get out of 2nd gear because he reads it so well

Brownhill 8 absolutely everywhere. Any loose ball appeared to stick to him for him to restart attacks

Cullen 7 quiet by his standard, but him dropping into Left centre half allows Vitinho to press and attack the full back

Tella 8 caused no end of problems breaking the lines

JBG 7. looks like he's getting back to fitness and confidence returning. A good sign, lets not rush him

JRod * MOM 9 perfect center forwards performance. At times dropped deep to collect, stretched them at others, brilliant control to bring others into play and confidence obviously high. Deserved goal.

Subs

Benson 8. needed a game like this. I admit to being pretty uninspired by his previous cameos but this will have done him the world of good. They were terrified of his pace, both one on one and when he collected deeper.

BPF 7 good solid subs appearance. Couple of decent saves and looks like he'd be comfortable playing out from the back of Muric is out for any length of time.

Barnes+Costelloe n/a although they did cause problems with their closing down.

Everybody seems to know the brief set out by Kompany and performing well in their roles. And It's only going to get better!!

In agreement with these marks.

That game should be a template for how we perform this season, particularly at home.
Stick to the principles and keep patient. As long as we keep tight at the back, we'll break most teams down eventually. The crowd seem to be catching onto this as there was less and less grumbles when we go backwards and sideways than previous home games.
Jolly exciting.

Really torn on the MOM with this, and I’m actually tempted to say I’ll give it to Benson. His impact was that immediate and game changing that I think I’ll go with that.

Muric 8 faultless, even when he came out and punched with a poorish contact, it stopped Millwall winning the first header in our box.
Roberts 8 thought he used the ball really well tonight, great part in the 2nd goal, excellent dummy in the box for the Tella chance too.
THB 8 class above, rolls royce.
Taylor 7
Vitinho 8 quiet but vital goal, defended well and always gave an option.
Cork 7
Cullen 7
Brownhill 7
JBG 7
Tella 8 fantastic player
Jrod 8 His best game of the season, loved his movement, used the ball really well too.

Benson 9 MOM - changed the game completely, now can he show consistency? his biggest problem. Was absolutely electric tonight though and great assist.
BPF 7 did well, nervous when he came on, was calm in the goal though apart from 1 flap when Millwall nearly scored with a header.

Muric 7 - a couple of decent saves and one exquisite pass to Tella and a nice loft to Cullen also first half. Still a couple.of blemishes as we almost saw a replica of the Blackpool goal with Cullen in the the second half but thankfully not. Also some bad judgement coming for a cross in the first.
Roberts 7 - a good game overall but nearly a costly mistake with that poor header I the second half.
Harwood-Bellis 8 - a good game and some excellent distribution in the second half. Not quite as dominant as some of our recent centre halves but he's only 20 and that could well come.
Taylor 7 - really strong game from Taylor. I think he's doing pretty well in that role but some experienced competition with a physical presence perhaps wouldn't go amiss.
Vitinho 7 - helped us make the pitch big by staying high and wide. He did seem to be ignored a little on occassion but helped 9pen up the right hand side. Can't remember seeing a left back score a header at the back post for us before! Some of the runs he was making in the second half would have had Dyche having kittens.
Cork 8 - thought he was excellent tonight. Read the game well, used the ball well and won a lot of challenges.
Cullen 7 - compliments Cork really well and played some nice passes but didn't have quite the same level of influence as Cork.
Brownhill 7 - excellent energy and linked up really well with Benson. Not quite as refined in the final third as in recent games but helped us dominate the middle of the pitch. We've got an excellent central midfield at this level.
Tella 7 - his first touch and movement were sublime and his understanding with Jay is really promising. He didn't always chose the right decision and was a little sloppy at times but he's a real threat for us.
JBG 7 - a threat down that side when cutting in on his left and came close on a couple of occasions. Good work rate also but not quite as willing to go outside as he used to be.
Jay 9* - absolutely superb. The fluidity of this system really helps his game as his intelligent movement really comes to the fore. Best he's played for us in this spell, hopefully more to come throughout the season.

Benson 9 - his ability to go around the man as well as inside pushed us further up the pitch straight away. His delivery tonight was fantastic also and a huge improvement on the Hull game. Fantastic performance - but still see him as an impact sub for the moment.
BPF 7 - looked very comfortable with the ball at his feet and used it well. One smart save but a little flappy with their chance rhat went across the 6 yard box.

Mention for Costelloe also who I thought looked lively when he came on, his mobility send physicality could be important off the bench this season I feel.

That was a fantastic watch this evening. The introduction of Jay alongside Tella's fantastic movement and threat in behind has really transformed our attacking prowess and turned our dominance in possession into goals. I'm still a little concerned about our lack of physicality and hope we can address that tomorrow but there are signs there of us being an excellent side in this division.

Muric 8 couple of very good saves and a couple of moves notably started from him.
Roberts 6 Thought he was pretty quiet but did the job.
THB 8 His passing is brilliant and he’s an excellent defender.
Taylor 7 I actually like him at CB, good pace and decent passer which I’ve not really noticed of him before.
Vitinho 8 Great shift up and down, exciting on the ball and a good goal coming into the box. Our full backs never used to score.
Cullen 7 Good bite in winning the ball back and classy on the ball.
Cork 7 Keeps it ticking similarly to Cullen.
Brownhill 7 Looks so good at this level. Great energy and movement in both attack and defence.
JBG 7 Showed his class early on, looks dangerous but faded understandably.
Jay 8 Class at this level. Proper no 9.
Tella 8 so dangerous. I knew he was quick but his skill and touch are class.

Benson 9 Looks like Messi when he runs at people. Quality assist and went very close with a good effort. Exciting. Changed it.
BPF 7 Couple of saves. Good backup.

Favourite moment in that game was the offside tella goal. Started with Muric playing a potentially dangerous ball into Cullen who sprayed it wide before a swooping move upfield..!

Muric 7...loses a mark for a near repeat of that Blackpool goal but played some lovely balls, particularly the long one to Tella first half
Roberts 7
THB 9...solid and played some tremendous penetrative passes into midfield.
Taylor 8...seemed to release the ball earlier tonight and very solid
Vitinho 7..quiet early on but grew into it and, of course, a goal
Cork 8 ....lovely composed performance
Cullen 8...the deep-lying metro-gnome !
Brownhill 8... massively high energy
JBG...6 . Good first half but then seemed to disappear prior to being subbed. Looked strong and fit encouragingly
Tella ..9 Some of his touches were Bergkampesque. Great player and looked a threat pretty much every time he got it in a forward position. Exciting.
Jay ....8 Bit of an experienced centre forward master class

Benson 9...Seems capable of going past the full back either side which, together with real pace, must make him a nightmare to play against. Looked tiny when he came on and I thought they'd just muscle him out of it but he made the difference for us.

Taylor 7
Vitinho 8 - can't defend for toffee but...
JBG 7
Cullen 8
Cork 9* - won so many ariel duels tonight
Brownhill 7
Tella 8 - a smidge off a 9
Rodriguez 8 - also a smidge off a 9

Benson 8
BPF 6

A joy to watch tonight. So many attack minded options but I do worry about injuries at CB. Long is a good defender at this level but I doubt he would suit the style which leaves us with Egan-Riley (probably needs to be paired with an aerially dominant CB which isn't Chas's or THB's strong suit), Thomas (looked classy against Milwall last year but probably needs a loan) and McNally (not seen enough of him but has the physicality, so would probably be my pick). Anyway, not a night for worries is it?!

Re: Burnley v Millwall - Player Ratings

Muric - 7 - one excellent second half save, a couple of other good ones, swept up well (guessing doing so caused his injury on one occasion, which hopefully isn't serious) and used the ball well. Whilst it caused a nervous moment, his willingness to come and claim high balls even well off his line is to be applauded and encouraged given our lack of size.

Roberts - 7 - not bad.

Vitinho - 8 well shackled in the first half but came into the game once Benson opened up the space and exploited it well.

Harwood Bellis - 7 - solid night's work.

Taylor - 7 - a few shaky moments but stood up well.

Cork - 9 - the maestro. Saw the game developing seconds quicker than everyone else on the pitch and first to the ball as a result. Used the ball tidily.

Cullen - 7 - neat and tidy if a bit safe at times - he can break the lines more and he hesitated and slowed the game down a bit more than he might have tonight.

Brownhill- 8 - not his most refined night but his running makes this team tick and he was important to both goals.

JBG - 7 - started well but we struggled to get him into the game as the first half wore on and he was rightly withdrawn for the extra pace if Benson.

Rodriguez- 7 - took his goal well and still a class above at this level, even if not as dominant as he was in thr previous 2 home games.

Tella - 7 - Millwall managed him well in the first half other than when he broke free to draw the free kick on the edge, and he was clearly less comfortable with his back to goal when he was forced deeper. I was surprised he didn't pull wider to find space in the first half but once Benson added pace out right he revelled in the extra space.

Benson- 8 - we needed the extra threat down the outside and he delivered, lovely cross for the opening goal and showed a real end product.

BPF - 7 - fine.

A somewhat frustrating first half when we were a little static, a tactical tweak, and then we capitalised. That's a real tick for Kompany and the team generally, ad is the way we managed a big physical and awkward opponent without really allowing them to bully us.

If we're being hyper critical the first half (like Hull) was a but rigid and we need someone with pace holding their width as Benson did once introduced. I thought Tella might have swapped with JBG to try and add that in the first half against the somewhat ponderous left back, and I suspect there is more fluidity to come. But the second half was great, Benson showed real quality and its becoming evident that Vitinho will become an excellent player for us. The progression from a similar game against similar opposition in Hull was heartening to see.

At this stage in the season, this is as good as we could have hoped for. If we can add a dominant centre back and (less importantly) cover up front, we'll be pretty well placed.

Firstly, Millwall are a huge side and bullied us for the first half an hour and could have had more than the 3 yellow cards they received. We were quite stodgy; particularly, down the Right where JGB and Roberts did some tidy work but looked a bit pedestrian. JBG got flattened by their left back just before going off, which seemed to sum up his night.

On the Left, Vitinho was left a bit unprotected in the first half with Tella seemingly drifting across the front line, which dragged Cullen across to the Left and I think disrupted the rhythm of the team a little bit.

In the second half the pattern continued we had the possession but they did have good chances. It all changed when Benson came on and Tella seemed to stick more to the Left, which gave Vitinho the chance to push forward. The shape looked much better and more fluid for the last half an hour and we could have had two or three more with Vitinho looking really good going forward albeit as someone says above some of his excellent runs were left unrewarded .

The pace on both wings was brilliant and Millwall simply couldn't live with it.

VK seems to be playing an orthodox wide player on the right (JBG, Benson or Costelloe) instead of his 4-2-2-2, which to me means that either Jay Rod is on his own or the left back is somewhat exposed depending on Tella's position. I thought Cork, Tella and Benson were the stand outs with a mention of Muric who made a magnificent save in the first half and got a round of applause for a brilliant length of the pitch pass to Tella.

Overall, we won and 3 points so great stuff.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict that this team will win the league. I reckon with Tarkowski and an Ings type striker the team gets 100 plus points.

Muric - 8 on course for a 9 tonight if he'd played 90 minutes. Some smart saves when he was called upon and his distribution is wild. The ball pinged the length of the pitch on to Tella's toe a particular highlight. Tella's offside goal came from a quick ball out by Muric. The extra dimension he gives our play is vital.

Roberts - 7 untroubled and got forward a bit more than Saturday

Harwood-Bellis - 7 not his best game defensively as he wasn't dominant in the air but otherwise fine and obvs great on the ball

Taylor - 7 much better than recent. Found his man down the line a lot more.

Vitinho - 7 hardly in the first half, did brilliant to get on the end of Benson's cross and then spent the rest of the game in various positions across the front line

Cork - 9 Generalé. Read everything and dominated the midfield.

Cullen - 8 was everywhere on the pitch, carried the ball and used it really well. Best game since the first one.

Brownhill - 7 nowhere near the heights of the weekend but he was still involved in lots of good stuff, including both goals I think so we'll take that

Tella - 7 didn't look offside but he was at the weekend so that's evened out. His pace is the obvious threat but his touch is excellent what sets him apart as he gets himself straight on the front foot.

Rodriguez - 8 lol at all those bozos who had written him off. If he stays fit he's the 20 goal man people were moaning we don't have.

Benson - 8 very much the impact sub, which I think is where his role should remain for the time being. That goon at left back didn't know what to do.

Peacock-Farrell - 7 did well. Most importantly, did nothing silly.

Millwall are just a gang of lummoxes, all snide fouls and spoiling the tactics. As usual, another weak referee let them get away with it but our lads were patient and kept working for the openings, which deservedly came. A comprehensive win in the end.

Very solid performance, and very easy on the eye. Main positives for me were the overall improvement in just over a month, of some of the players and how they play in this system. Especially Brownhill's addressing of the ball in certain areas of the final third, and Benson's end product getting better. There is much more to come from this side.

Muric 8 - pretty faultless bar one slip in the first half
Roberts 7 - Fine display
Harwood-Bellis 7 - Stood up well to their physicality
Taylor 7 - Solid
Vitinho 8 - Never stopped running, good anticipation for the goal
Cullen 8 - ran the midfield along with...
Cork 9 - Lost count of the headers he won and how many times he regained possession, what a player he is in this team
Brownhill 8 - Getting better in the more advanced position everytime I see him
Tella 8 - Got Premier league quality about him. Dare I say he's better than Cornet?
Rodriguez 8 - Looks a class player playing this style of footy

Benson 8 - Again gave our play som much needed urgency
Peacock-Farrell 7 - Fine save near the end

Just great to drive home after a home win, it's been a while!

Muric 7 - some brilliant balls tonight and seems more settled after every game - hope the injury isn't a bad one.
Roberts 7
Harwood-Bellis 7 - a Rolls Royce at times
Taylor 7
Vitinho 7
Cullen 8 - great awareness, technique and passing range
Cork 8
Brownhill 7
JBG 6 - tidy first half but seemed to fade quickly 2nd half - will be 3 games in less than a week so maybe a chance for Benson or Churlinov to start against WBA
Tella 8 - Sterling-esque
Rodriguez 8 - Some great link-up play and will score a lot in this team.

Benson 8 - looks a very dangerous player and ran them ragged
BPF 7 - looked assured enough

A shout for Benson in this one after stick in recent games. He changed the game totally and was unplayable. They started to have a collective panic attack and the goal was inevitable.

We should be on 21 points but lets not quibble. 2 points per game wins this league and we are just 2 points off that despite evolving. A huge 3 games coming up. 7 points and it will be hard to see us being stopped due to our options, probably GK, ST and CB are the positions we have more risk in. We are stacked in the others.
