So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
It's great that we're winning games (and in lots of cases playing well as we win).
However, we are of course at a lower level.
So who's missing the Premier League?

I'm loving having no VAR - A quick look at the linesman before carrying on celebrating with unbridled joy.

Really enjoying this sesson despite the cloggers we sometimes play against. We are a class above them. I just wonder though will it be as enjoyable if we get promoted to trillions league?

Championship by some margin, although we need the premier league to keep
topping up the coffers.
I'll settle for a yoyo club.

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
I was very much in favour of VAR coming in, I grew to despise it. It did not do what it was meant to do, that was help refs when they made a clear and obvious error.
It turned into a farse, checking offsides to a millimetre and every goal was checked taking several minutes, you didn’t know weather to bother celebrating or not.
And this season they just appear to back what the ref did anyway, except for a few times I have seen.
Love being back in the Championship.
I also agree with CT and others, the PL has moved beyond our means to even compete if we go back up.

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
I don’t think it has moved beyond our means but it will require some very intelligent work in the transfer market. It’s obviously very difficult to compete with the vast sums that are being paid in transfers and salaries.
This season will be a season of new Burnley against teams playing effectively the old Burnley way, against us (probably not as effectively as we were at it under Dyche). We’ve a huge array of options now which should help us to break stubborn teams down with fresh legs.
It is nice to go to games expecting a win or not hoping to scrape a draw and the style of play is much more enjoyable to watch, even though I did love to see us turning teams over with gutsy, defensive displays.

Next home game take a look around where you're sat, you'll find Turf Moor is a much happier place this season. That says everything.
Dare I say even this board seems a much happier place as well.
Its got the makings of an absolute classic season in the history of BFC.

I actually hate virtually everything about the Premier League. VAR, big club bias, the mad money that surrounds it (and for bang average players), crap kick off times etc etc
Of course I want us to play great football, score lots of goals and boss this league. But if we do, there’ll be a big part of me that wouldn’t be looking forward to going back into the Premier League.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game on the Turf as much as I did last night. Should we carry on as we are, however, we're once more Premier League bound, with everything that entails and I wouldn't look forward to that with any anticipation.

It’s great that we have started the season as well as we have, and we, along with every other team in the division must strive for promotion!
I completely understand the frustration of going to prem games every week with the more likely outcome being a defeat. However, let’s not forget, if we hadn’t been in the prem for several seasons, we wouldn’t have the incredible training facilities we now have, we wouldn’t have VK as manager, we wouldn’t be buying the sorts of players we have bought, and we would be exactly the same sort of team as the likes of Millwall!!
Let’s also not forget that the longer we remain a championship club, the harder it gets financially which inevitably leads to poorer football and results.

Norwich have got it sussed, one up one down.
Go up to enjoy the ride knowing it's benefitting the club.
Go down knowing you'll be having an exciting and probably successful season in Championship.
Make sure the money is going on sustainable stuff like scouting, academy and developing players.

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
This season is proving to be far better in many ways than previous seasons.
VAR the obvious one. It's worse than crap.
New style of play is so entertaining but at times frustrating but that's how it should be.
Many more games at good kick off times with the benefit of local derbies.
The anticipation of winning games makes the next game a can't wait game, which in turn makes you consider going on games that you would normally miss.
If we do get promoted I hope its for just the one season before it goes stale again.

Its not going to be boring around Burnley for a good while we can be sure of that.
If we go up - then VK is going to be on the radar of other clubs and of course ALK will be looking to cash in and sell the club. Anything could happen.
Its definitely more fun watching Burnley in the Championship at the moment though!

Championship is the fans league,
Premier league is the owners league.
I remember Fulham fans ringing talksport the night they got promoted saying they was gutted and the presenters couldn't understand why saying you'll see your team against the best teams in the world but I fully understood what they meant, I'd love to win the league but not go up!
I'm enjoying this season much more and begun to hate everything the premier league stands for especially it's blatent corruption

Our new model requires that we’re going to see and going to have to get used to a high turnover of players. I would actually prefer spending two up one down as a yo-yo club, and it will suit the model

No contest, Championship is better. No VAR rubbish, more entertaining style and a chance of more goals / wins.

No VAR is a big plus. Refs have been better than I expected. Promotion won’t be easy but at least it looks like we will be in the race. Nice to see us playing some quality stuff but we need to strengthen defensively. Overall very enjoyable so far

Just feeling like you have a chance in every game is huge.
As others have said, do not miss VAR one bit.
The Local derbies are great, especially Wigan for obv. reasons, but really looking forward to Preston and Blackburn.
More games.
The physicality. I know we get a bit frustrated at times, but it was ridiculous the amount of cheating, diving and play acting there is in the Prem, compared to the Championship.
Seeing people around us at the game enjoying the football again. I had forgotten just how much of a slog the prem had become for the fans.

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
I don't think it's the same thing exactly.
https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... sed-by-eflThe EFL is still discussing the practicalities of introducing a "VAR-light" system but hopes to introduce the low-cost alternative for the start of next season.
Compared to what's used in the Premier League, the EFL technology would incorporate fewer cameras, and therefore be cheaper.
It would not include cameras to assess offside decisions, for example, but would allow referees to review contentious incidents.

I agree it’s more enjoyable than last season and I’m certainly looking forward to games a lot more, but my view has always been that if we do t want to see the club play at the highest possible level, what is the point? Otherwise, logically we would get to the point that if it looked like we were going up, we would have to start hoping that the team plays badly and loses.
Also, I don’t hate VAR as much as most seem to, although I do have issues with the incompetent way it has been implemented. I would have like to know definitively whether Tella was offside or not though…

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
Had a quick scan of the replies so far and saw a lot on VAR. That doesn't bother me so much and the main thing for me is being competitive every week rather than targeting about ten games a season we can get wins from. Having 70% possession is much more enjoyable than 30% and the number of midweek games is great for keeping momentum or putting a bad result right. If we were down the bottom of the championship I'd rather do that in the Prem, but right now, I'm a championship man all the way.

Entertainment wise the Champ all day long.
Financially however we do have to at least make a brief sojourn to the Prem.
As others have stated the best of both worlds would be to become a yo-yo club similar to Norwich, that way we'll be guaranteed a fair shout at winning the Champ or promotion/PO place, and this season looks like being far more exciting than the previous two.

This season is hugely enjoyable so far.
I do hope we go back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking but am also hopeful that the ‘big 6’ get itchy feet and sod off to form their European Super League ASAP as well.

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
A dichotomy of opinion on this. The Premier league became very stale for us as time progressed but that's where the money is. Money dictates quality on the pitch( well, most of the time it does). So far this season has been very refreshing, re- juvenating almost but as alluded to earlier there has to be a plan, an objective. I think we are being royally entertained so far but if it continues well into the season the lure of the Premier league inevitably re-appears. Whether we would continue to play such an expansive game then is up for debate. It should be an easy decision and for myself it is. Promotion must be the aim; it has to be hasn't it?
Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
Unfortunately, unless ALK can find some serious investment if we get promoted again, we are always going to be more of a yoyo club (which is fine by me). The prem has moved on in the last couple of years, so i'm quite happy with our current plan of increasing the scouting network and trying to find some uncut gems from around Europe.
I wasn't too down when we got relegated, as the prem sometimes feels like you are shovelling **** up a hill. It's also tiring seeing the opposition have the ball for most of the game so it makes a pleasant change for what we've seen so far. Also, more games and no VAR is a massive bonus.

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
I'm enjoying the Championship but it's always going to be more fun dominating games and winning more than losing. I'd expect us to continue building momentum now but the reality is this league is a real slog if you aren't doing well.
As for no VAR, I'll be interested to see the reaction if some big wrong calls go against us in key moments. Referees at this level seem really poor.
There's no doubt the novelty of playing the big boys - and being outplayed more often than not - was wearing off. If we do get back to the PL with VK then it'd be interesting to see how we get on with this new style.

No VAR so we can celebrate goals as they happen not 5 minutes later. This appalling use of technology needs to be scrapped now it’s destroying live football and it doesn’t even get the decisions right
Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
We might not be outplayed every week. The ideal would be for the mega rich State owned Oil soaked clubs to leave and join this so called Super league and we reside nicely in the top division. These teams after all have resreve teams better than most other clubs first teams. I think it may happen. I hope so. Question is would the FA or whoever allow these mega rich reserve teams into our Leagues?NottsClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 11:14 amThis is right. Tella was definitely offside, though not by a lot, and some of those decisions will go against us this season. I can accept that, and half the fun of the day is debating certain points of the game afterwards, and you’d like to think they even themselves out.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 12:01 pmI agree it’s more enjoyable than last season and I’m certainly looking forward to games a lot more, but my view has always been that if we do t want to see the club play at the highest possible level, what is the point? I want my team to be doing as well as it possibly can, and that is the Premier League.
Is it more FUN at this level? Absolutely, because we dominate most weeks and score more goals.
I'd be quite content for a yo-yo existence, and a Cup run would be nice. Getting back ASAP has to be the objective always though, just to keep the bank balance stocked.

Too many here thi k this is sustainable for long term. It isn't without more investment or crowds. 2 or 3 years at this level and we rrop back to 12-14k per game and the drudge of a long season with shitter opposition.
Think the Prem was a slog? Wait for it in the Champ.
Premier league every time and I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want it either. The whole point of professional sport is to be as successful as possible.

PL is OK if we can genuinely compete.
The problem with "punching above our weight" is that eventually the big boys punch harder.

We need the money from the PL to compete at this level
It doesn't get any simpler than that I'm afraid
So PL for me, even if we don't stay there for six years

I made this point/suggestion during last night's game: If we got automatic promotion, could we not sell our spot to the third placed club for £50 million, plus their play-off spot, make another few quid and enjoy a day out at Wembley winning that, then sell that Premiership place to the beaten finalist for a further £50 million; works for me.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 11:37 amIf we won promotion and they offered us half the Premier league money but we stayed in the championship instead of going up I'd take that all day, I hate the Premier league

I'm glad you've brought your usual reality to this subject LC, that is just the hard facts, if we don't make the odd visit to the PL, then we will soon end up where we were when Cotterill took over, which was on our uppers, and with a handful of 1st team players on the books.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 7:24 pmWe need the money from the PL to compete at this level

Re: So, 7 Games In... Championship or PL?
In response to the question the OP opposed then nope I am not missing the Premier League one bit and Im enjoying football more than I have done since the season we finished 7th.
Do I want to be in the Championship next season? No I dont as I want us to get promoted and have another go at it. Plus if we stay down too long we are likely to be more the standard of Wigan and Millwall
Do I want us to be a yo yo club? Again no as I want us to try compete and survive in the Premier League. Will I get bored if we get in a successful rut of simply surviving then yes after 3 or 4 seasons I probably would.
There's no one fixed position for me but for a club our size surviving year after year in the Premier League can suck the enjoyment out of football whilst remaining season after season in the Championship will just see us get worse and worse to the point relegation is more likely than promotion.
Somewhere in-between those two ends of the pole will do for me but for now Im just loving the football VK has us playing
