Straight mile? That place looks transformed compared to the last time I saw it? Used to be laden with trolleys and rubbish that stretch, some of the worst Leeds-Liverpool canal had to offer. I've zoomed as far as I can and found nothing, which is awesome. (Unless it's all blown up to Queens Park?)

People don't bother dragging their rubbish to the canal anymore, they just chuck it on the backstreet.

You do get a lot of litter I know the canal & rivers trust have an army of dedicated volunteers clearing it up & magnet fisherman clear abit up, it's still there but just minimised. It's disgusting really & doesn't encourage much wildlife apart from rats.

Yes it does but certain rural stretches are more notorious than others I've seen plenty of wildlife on certain stretches & floating nappies & coke cans & rats on urban stretches it depends where you are to what you are likely to see.

Rats are very common everywhere. Didn't somebody once say you're always 20 yards away from the nearest rat? Even the nicest looking places have a thriving population.

Aye, I went over for the steam loco the other day and parked up and gave em a shout. This was down near the farm, I was sorely tempted to go and buy a rib, bloody tasty these are.

The steamers go right past our house 👍 if we go to the top of our garden they are in the cut behind our house.

We always get folk on the Bridge over the station here on a Wednesday morning 🙂 to see the Steamer go through.

They used to park a tanker on the Bridge and use LP Station to top up the water tank a few years ago and the Station carpark full of folk with their cameras and video equipment

Thevwifes uncle Noel loved coming snd sitting up our Garden when the Steamer came through

Just back from a week totally off the grid in the wilds in British Columbia, sailing the inlets looking for bears and whales. Had an incredible week, watching Grizzly bears with cubs, big adults catching salmon, and being in a forest observing black bears catching salmon up a waterfall. They walked past about 10 feet away. Whales wise, we had it all. 2 humpbacks hung around the boat for 2 hours, we saw breaches (unphotographed), observed and photographed bubble net feeding, and spent a magical evening with around 20 humpbacks all together as the sun set. Mind totally reset, which was needed. Here's a couple of photos from early in the trip of a Grizzly bear chasing and catching salmon.

Think it depends where you are, any river in Burnley you will deffo be very near a rat. The allotments in Padiham have an infestation and have had for two years. I have used traps to kill around two hundred this year. I get them in the garden and literally shot one 2 hours ago.

Cause it does you'll always attract vermin wherever there's a food source, I saw plenty other night at Accrington train station, more concentrated in urban areas with population densities, in lot's of cases we actually feed rats with not disposing of our rubbish correctly.

One of my favourite ever wildlife watching experiences, probably 2nd only to the Wildebeest migration in Kenya from 2 years ago.
We watched around 11 or 12 Whales co-ordinate their hunting, rounding up herring, and then bursting from the water at once to scoop up the bait ball they had created.
Trying to figure out where they were coming up in the ocean wasn't easy, and I totally missed the first burst from the water. I had a 600mm lens on, and they came up no more than 10 metres from the boat. It was incredible to see, and only heightened the experience.

Historically, I'd said that the romance of photographing whales was far greater than the reality. On this trip, however, the reality far exceeded anything I could have dreamed of.

A view towards the Lake District from Arnside Knott, taken yesterday the 9th of September.

Apologies file too large to upload, and unable to delete comment.

Had a top day out in Leamington Spa. Found all these in the Glasshouse in Jephson Gardens.
