Kindly thank you for the info, Lancaster, and may praise be with you, my son. Now leave me alone while I sit on an old gravestone listening to Sisters of Mercy on my boombox.

A lot if not most teenagers have extreme left-wing views and when in the real world after a decade or so, they usually come to their senses... Why do you think Labour and the Scottish National party are obsessed with bringing the voting age down?!It must have felt odd shaking the hand of a British PM who once wanted to abolish the monarchy.

On the plus side, it was nice to see the PM actually answer questions at PMQs
Big positive in her favour, though god knows how long that will last if things continue to head south at the speed they are going

Not backtracking at all. You mocked someone from 1 side then became slightly defensive towards the other side.
Just never fail to be amused by adults who constantly mock 1 side but see little wrong with their own side. Part of the reason why I gave up watching Question Time due to it representing a playground at junior school.
I don't vote so I have no dog in the fight but those that do and become blinkered by it are normally good value.

It's all fine and dandy to be brash about this on a message board, however, lifestyles and health outcomes are intricately linked, and it's a message that is pushed by her Dept. In fact, they have to push this message because of the cost to individuals regarding poor life expectancy etc, not to mention the immense pressure that our NHS is under. I've seen individuals turn their life around after NHS/GP intervention. People who will now live longer and lead a more active life.

I thought this was about the Queen ?
Regardless of being a royalist or not I always show respect to people older then me ( sadly they are getting less and less ) you cannot learn the wisdom and life skills they have, you have to get them through experience.

Just good to get those out of the way. I am struggling to think that he would have been a worse choice for the middle option.
Truss only got in with just over 80,000 votes. Dyche would get more than that just from those with burnley tendencies.

Re: The Queen
On topic, does the queen actually have to die before transferring the role to, presumably, Charles.
And, while I'm here, does it have to be to Charles. Can there be an agreement to go direct to William? I mean, we don't want all the fuss of getting Charles coronated and then having to go through it all again a short while after. There are far more important things to be getting on with.

On the first one - the Queen can abdicate if she chose to.
On the second - the law of succession would have to change.

I stand to be corrected, but as far as I'm aware the Queen can choose to abdicate at any time, and then I assume the role automatically defaults to Charlie, and that's when things might get interesting from a constitutional perspective, because Charles is nowhere as popular as Lizzie, and this is borne out by opinion polls over a number of years.

Re: The Queen
Yes, because she's stated quite clearly she's Queen until she dies, unless she becomes incapacitated at which point Charles becomes regent until she passes and then assumes his role as king.Hipper wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 4:40 pmOn topic, does the queen actually have to die before transferring the role to, presumably, Charles.

It cannot legally skip Charles and go to William, unless he chooses to abdicate, but he won't.
Re: The Queen
If she isn't fit enough to perform her "duties" she should step aside and let Charles take over.

Just because Rayner left school at 16 ,thick as mince in a jizz splattered haze , doesn’t necessarily make her better than highly educated types . AR’s problem is not her will do good for working people it’s her accent which makes her sound far thicker than she is . She needs a good bath some new clobber ,a stylist and elocution lessons and she’ll be fine.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:46 pmYou mean someone who has actually seen life at the rough end of the stick, and managed to come out of the other end, rather than someone who went to Eton...

I always liked Kenneth Clarke, not necessarily his politics. He spoke like he was speaking to his mates down the pub - which he did seem to frequent a fair bit - dressed as he liked, including hush puppies, and seem to have married his grandmother.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 8:46 pmJust because Rayner left school at 16 ,thick as mince in a jizz splattered haze , doesn’t necessarily make her better than highly educated types . I don't think we will see much more of her TBH. Hopefully people who get a buzz out of slagging off the monarchy will ease back and show a vulnerable old lady some respect.

I'm sure they will, I don't think any body's dislike of the Monarchy is aimed at the Queen personally.
Let's face it, she's a very old lady and is extremely frail and vulnerable.
The best medics in the world can only do so much.
I only hope when the time comes, we're not treated to the mawkish, disrespectful kind of faux mourning that accompanied Diana's death.
