I really can’t understand people who click on a thread just to state they are not interested in the thread topic. Abstaining from the thread would be the appropriate method.

Today is a spectacle - in terms of parades and pageantry we are pretty good at it.

choked up a couple of times, during Queen Elizabeth's journey to the service and at the end of the service, both times during the bagpipe music, there's something incredibly stirring about such an instrument. I thought of my own grandmother, my thoughts too with The Queen's children and grandchildren. They are burying their mother and grandmother today. Rest in Peace.

For me it's just another day, but one day nearer a return to some kind of normality.
A rare look at my fb newsfeed suggests the vast majority of my "" friends"" are as interested in the whole performance as I am.

I don’t really consider myself a royalist.
But she was a remarkable lady who served our country and it’s people.
Watched every minute since I got up at 9 am.
We certainly do this well.

Never been a massive royalist but that was an incredible spectacle. We are exceptional at these ceremonial events. Millions in the world are interested and it is a major historical event. Anyone who has had any kind of military training will appreciate the detail and hard work that has gone into this.

Re: The Queens funeral
Have to agree with other posters that the bagpipes are something special. The sailors pulling the gun carriage to the sound of pipes and drums brought a lump to my throat but the solo bagpipes in the church that faded out to silence really got me. A truly momentous occassion, something I doubt most of us will ever see the likes of again.

bobinho wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 12:43 pmDon’t feel sorry for me. I haven’t been bombarded with any “stuff” for the last ten days. I have been busy watching and listening to a nation mourn, and show its respect to someone who undoubtedly earned it. I felt proud doing so. I feel proud today watching it.
I will never consider becoming a republic like France. I wouldn’t want to be.
I have spent an hour or two of my life watching the world say farewell to HM Queen Elizabeth II. I will now go about my business. Not being able to go shopping today is no hardship. If I need to shop, I’ll go tomorrow, or the day after. I will have missed nothing today that couldn’t have been put off for a day or two. I have missed nor will I miss any television today. It’s still there waiting for me. The last ten days that have been dedicated to the memory of Her Majesty have been a pleasure (if that’s an acceptable word to use in these circumstances) to be a part of really when you consider the service we have been given by our late Queen.
Dont feel sorry for me either or the billions arround the world who have taken this all as the respect it deserves

Can we please just keep on topic for once and stop the bickering. Let those of us who respect the royal family discuss it, if it's not your thing then why bother even reading this thread. It is a truly momentous occassion and a show of respect for a great monarch who dedicated the last 70 years of her life to our country, the commonwealth and even the rest of the world.
