Freeview recording box recommendations

As the title, can anybody recommend a Freeview recording box?

The mother in law has mentioned she wants one, but needs to be able to record 1 or 2 programmes, whilst watching a 3rd.

For Humax read Amstrad I had one it was so bad I thought it was faulty so I bought another that was even worse.

Good thread. We are also after a couple of PVR boxes. It can be either Freesat or Freeview. We are jacking Sky when our current contract ends. We are still on the HD+ boxes. Their Q boxes just wouldn't work for us because there's no facility to create separate user profiles, and there's no way I'm going to renew for even half of what they are after, given that we are watching Sky Sports, etc, through 15-year-old tech.

I recently bought a freesat hd 500gb recordable box from Currys for £200. It is very good and has a decent epg. Easy to set a recording too.

Talktalk tv plus box is worth checking out.

Ticks all your boxes... and is...
Easy to use.
Easy to set up (+has the option for loop connect which is useful - not all boxes do)
Large record.
Cheap. (there are new ones for sale on ebay etc as often they get sent to customers who don't actually need one / already have one).

The model of box is a Huawei DN372T Freeview+

Another one here for Humax Freeview, had two in 20 odd years. Only 500 gig units
but more than enough for me. They are available in 1gig and even 2 gig now I think.

Thanks for that. A few years ago I kept an eye on the development of the latest 4K Freesat boxes, and when they were released, I also kept an eye on the reviews. Have they ironed out the software issues? I remember reading about crashes and half-recorded programmes.

No problem so far but I am only about a month into it. I only tend to record EFL highlights but the whole program is always there. It’s a very small box and it switches itself on and off with the tv automatically if you have a smart tv and program the tv remote to operate it. Simple process. I don’t use the freesat remote.

Thanks for that. A month is a decent run. I take it you've had no
problems when pausing live TV? If so, it does sound like most of the early software issues have been addressed.

It might also be worth looking at deals with Sky, Virgin, etc.

Last time I was looking at getting a recording box I ended up sticking with my Virgin deal as the cost on top of broadband wasn't much compared to an up to date set top box which got replaced every three years or so (and the Virgin box is far better).

She’s just got out of a contract with Virgin after having nothing but problems with them and tbh she didn’t watch enough of the non-Freeview to justify the cost each month

No problems with pause, rewind , record, series link, catch up tv etc. It’s just as efficient as the sky+ box it replaced once you get used to it.
If you choose a non hd channel and there is a hd version available it asks if you want to switch to that. Pretty cool feature.

Hi folks, just wondering if anyone has Virgin's new streamer box? Looks like their version of the Firestick, only it looks easier to watch live TV with a proper guide.

Is everything still ok, Karate? I'm going to pick a couple of these PVR boxes up next weekend when our Sky sub runs out.

Yeah it's still going great. Now i know how to use it properly its a breeze. Very small unit compared to the old sky+ box I had too. Great picture quality and easy to record and series record. EPG is good too. 7 day and you can also see what you have missed earlier as you can go back. Restart a programme if you tune in half way through. All good and no subscription.

Had a month now with the Freesat PVR boxes. We are happy with them and the picture quality is a big improvement from the old Sky boxes, even on the SD channels.
