I watched with trepidation, and in the situation, not a little fascination that lightened the solemnity for me, wondering what those that would come across it would do!

Did they issue a training manual? Was it an innate instinct of pomp and circumstance? To a person, nobody walked around it, broke step, faltered, look confounded, or brought attention to it. They just walked through it and in it, with scant regard for their footwear, the potential to slip, slide, or the spread of the offending clumps.

It was magnificent and as worthy an act as anything on view in the last 10 days.

In my Army days I remember that you’d get a right bollocking for missing step to avoid the horse poo. Ruined the bull on your boots. Not as much as dropping a SLR on a toe cap though.

Pleased I'm not the only one to notice that, absolute discipline in the highest regard....how British! Couldn't see the Italians continuing with such a stiff upper lip.

Because horses belong to the realm of the wealthy, Foulthrow, and dogs to minions, like you. That's one explanation, but a more realistic one is that horses are vegetarian and dogs are not. Horse poop is relatively "clean," with very little bacteria, parasites or viruses that humans can get sick from. it's rare to do so. On the other hand, your dog is horrible, and its poop is very toxic because of what you feed it. It is full of all the bad stuff.

If that was not enough, horse poop breaks down quickly, dog poop does not (especially if white... how many UTCers will remember that reference??) It gets into ground water, spreading fecal coliform bacteria into our drinking water and beyond...
