Re: Gerrard @ Villa
The hype around him at Rangers was ridiculous, most ex players would succeed there as manager, should learnt his trade doing the hard miles butvasxalwsys great player =great manager=average players will be as good casual him = he'll be as great as the managers he has worked for.

He did a fantastic job at Rangers. Not sure how anyone can say any different.

Doing a fantastic job at Rangers though is relatively easy.

Maybe the nanagers aren't the problem at Villa. Maybe the club itself is the issue. Very easy to roll out the great player but not a great manager line. But a bit lazy. Who has done well at Villa in the last 20 years? They can't all have been bad managers.

Difficult at Villa as it is at Everton. High expectations but not really enough money to realise them

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
Villa looked very good against Chelsea first half, sometimes things don't click, sometimes it isn't the managers fault.
Gerrard will be a good manager in the future, he has to learn, the same as everyone else, whether that can save him at Villa is anybody's guess.

Top 10 highest net spend in Europe over the last five years - that’s despite two of those years in the Championship and bringing in over £100 million for Grealish.

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
Villas problem, like Everton, has been their transfers.
For example, Coutinho - unsurprisingly he's gone missing after an initial good start, but he's on silly wages....
They've splurged money on players for a manager and then potted him, to do it all over again.
There's just no long term support and now it's being leaked that they're chasing Poch.

Is Ings out of form these days or slightly injured as he was on the bench without coming on in the recent game against Forest?

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
Fulham & Brentford next up for Villa Gerrard really needs a couple of positive results in those games or he will be on a sticky wicket.
Villa have underachieved for ages though so I'm not sure precisely what their fans expect regardless of who the manager is.

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
I wonder at what stage unrealistic expectations in certain premier league clubs will stop being a thing?
Re: Gerrard @ Villa
Villa have one of the largest net spends in Europe over the past seasons in fairness. A minimum expectation should be to see some good football, Gerrard couldn’t even manage that.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 7:33 amI wonder at what stage unrealistic expectations in certain premier league clubs will stop being a thing?

Gerard was a poor appointment in the first place for a club with Villas expectations, they will surly go for someone with experience at the top level and not a rookie like Gerard was

Not being successful is no longer an option in this cutthroat ruthless world of football management. Those who appointed Gerrard should sack themselves.

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
It was his record in Europe that got him the high praise. Obviously he did well all round up there but you can't fault the opposition he was playing against in Europe.
It's a strange time to sack him with other clubs struggling to attract any decent candidates for their managers job.
Bournemouth, Wolves and WBA aren't doing very well in the recruitment.
Who could they attract to do any better?
Please don't say Dyche because half of his sacking was Gerrard was more defensive than Dean Smith.

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
Oh no doubt, but Villa and Everton fans in particular don't seem to live in the real world
Re: Gerrard @ Villa
42 years old and has already been sacked. His merry-go-round has just begun. You just know another club will offer him a job, for him to be sacked 12 months later. Rinse and repeat.
Re: Gerrard @ Villa
Heard the interviewer last night ask Brendan Rodgers about the sacking. "Puts things into perspective"... "He's looking for work now." Really?!
Extremely wealthy man becomes even wealthier following sacking. Repeat repeat repeat.

What did he do in Europe? Wasn't it van Bronckhorst who took them to the Europa League final?Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 9:04 amIt was his record in Europe that got him the high praise. He'd lost the fans totally at Villa, position as close to untenable as you can get really. I don't think it was just the results either. Seemed to gain a reputation as being haughty and arrogant, and the disagreement with Mings probably didn't go down well with some of the senior players.

Re: Gerrard @ Villa
There's clearly no leaders in that Villa team, but making John McGinn club was worthy of the sack by itself. I wouldn't have him at Burnley.
Re: Gerrard @ Villa
He never came across to me as a happy soul, someone that could have a laugh with his players. Always far too serious. I think someone like Dyche would turn the mentality round in the club overnight.
