Rory McIlroy

Post by Darnhill Claret » Sun Oct 23, 2022 10:19 pm

About to be back as World Number One. Just has to win the CJ Cup in the next half hour. Playing 17 with a three stroke lead. Not a good second shot but so far no-one is putting him under any pressure.

Sorted his wedge game out. Also (just my theory) seems very motivated on the LIV thing and is being a bit more ruthless

Far too inconsistent in his play these days. He played with such freedom when he was younger and reaped the rewards. Now it's birdie/bogey.

True for a good few years now. But as Darnhill points out.... he is about to get that world number 1 spot back. He is trending really well

But mentally nowhere near as strong as the player of a number of years ago.

Had an unreal year, but as others have said he needs to start winning some majors.

Bit of a wobble at the end with those two bogies on 17 & 18 but if you've got the shots in hand, use them. Well done Rory :)

He’s mentally stronger than ever at the moment.
His game is the best it’s ever been. A large part of this is down to Brad Faxon who has transformed his putting. Where he sits on the tour stats for putting now is incredible compared to previously.

He could very easily have won one or two majors this season. And unlike in previous years he did not lose these majors. The likes of Cam Smith won them with unbelievable final rounds.

As said the main area that lets him down a bit compared to the likes of Cam Smith is his wedge play. If he can fix that like he fixed his putting he will win a few more majors (good chance he will anyway)
