Muric 7 - brilliant distribution today
Roberts 6
THB 5 - some sloppy passing and very poor for their goal
Beyer 7 - solid
Maatsen 7 - great passing but minus one for Hoilett chance & nearly giving a penalty away needlessly
Bastien 5 - too casual for the CM role in the champ, far too many simple, unnecessary sideways passes
Brownhill 5 - struggles playing a touch deeper does Josh, not convinced that he’s an out and out CM
Gudmundsson 6
Tella 7
Zaroury 8 - serious talent
Rodriguez 5

Benson 9* - Championship Messi, quite simply won the game for us
Vitinho 7

On we march… UTC!

Muric 7 - sets the tone, distribution was great
Roberts 5 - don’t see what he offers defensively or going forward
THB 6 - not himself today but first time I’ve said that
Beyer 7 - one or two iffy moments but otherwise good again
Maatsen 6 - good energy again
JBG 6 - steady
Bastien 7 - tidy and composed
Brownhill 6 - pretty quiet today
Zaroury 8 - a constant threat and fantastic work rate
Tella 7 - kicked around again by the opposition but kept going
Rodriguez 5 - should have put us 1 up 1st half, movement wasn’t great today

Benson 9 - what a talent
Vitinho 7 - has to start for me

From telly

Muric 7 did nothing wrong and some good distribution
Roberts 6 Huffs and Puffs. Should have scored that header
THB 6
Beyer 7
Maatsan 7 some great balls for Zaroury
Bastien 6 neat and tidy
Brownhill 6 lost his shooting boots
JGB 6
Zaroury 8 had each different full back on toast
J Rod 7 but his best work was in two thirds of the pitch. ( not our attacking third)
Tella 6 some good moments but not his usual standard

Benson 9 couldn’t ask for much more
Vitinho 7 better than Roberts
Egan Riley 6 Steady

To make a statement like that then you have to quantify why you think that?

What did he do, for you, to warrant more than a 5?

Grew into the game.. Took 20 mins to adjust to the pace and Readings physicality, then played brilliantly until he finally ran out of steam.
Between him and Beyer for my mom.

He was far better than a 5. Always showed for the ball and kept things ticking over. Remember it was most likely his first start in the Champ and whilst wanting toi impress, he also didn't want to screw up so was probably a touch too cautious. At least a 6 for me.

A game which summed us up perfectly. So much the better team if it had been a boxing match it would have been stopped at half time. But it's not boxing unfortunately and a negative team only needs one defensive lapse to get in front and from then on I feared the worst. We have to turn our amazing superiority and possession into more chances and ultimately more goals or teams like Reading will get away with bloody murder. Ultimately we got what even the most avid Reading fan must accept we deserved, but it should been far, far more comfortable than that. Having said that, we were brilliant to watch and Zaroury and Benson were actually unplayable and we haven't been able to say that about many Clarets for quite some time! Excellent stuff!

Muric 6 nothing to do, had to make a call for their goal, some lovely passing and would have twatted anyone in that melee at the end

Roberts 6 fine, makes some really good runs and then we go the other way

Harwood-Bellis 5 no wonder he was fired up at the end cos he got away with it today. At least 3 poor passes that gave them opportunities and badly at fault for their goal.

Beyer 7 actually looked out cold in the first half so was a relief to see he was OK after that. Did really well. He has a lovely weight of pass.

Maatsen 6 mixed game, some of his passing to find Zaroury's runs was sublime bit he could have cost us at the end with a really crap challenge on Ince

Brownhill 6 for a central midfielder he spent a he'll of a lot of time on the left wing. He did keep driving us on though.

Bastien 7 man is cool AF. Took a few touches to get the pave and then did very well until he noticeably tired. Did the simple things very well which we needed in there today.

Gudmundsson 6 not bad not great

Tella 7 booted around but didn't get petulant like in midweek. His running is such an outlet for, just the final ball was lacking

Zaroury 8 again he had their fullback on toast until they doubled up on him. Good to see him stick his head in the danger zone to ban the winner.

Rodriguez 6 ball was always sither slightly above or behind him in the box

Benson 8 changed the game. Lovely controlled volley in the only place the keeper couldn't get to. And what a ball that is for the winner. He does need to work back wehm he loses the ball though and pretending he'd got a blow to the face late on was really poor. Needs to stop that, thanks.

Vitinho 7 purely for him skinning Ince

Got to find a way to win against stiflers like Reading who were only ever going to score from one of our errors. So it proved. Fortunately we can change things off the bench and give their tiring players something different to think about. A fully deserved three points.

You only need to have eyes to see that was never a ‘below par’ performance from Bastien

Very difficult playing against a side who had decent ball skills but lined up with 9 defenders or holding midfielders. Lots of good probing attacks that lacked the final ball or were well defended. Kept on playing our own game right to the end.

Surely not Jack Cork

I didn’t see many line breaking passes at all, nor much breaking up of play if being honest.

Lots of overly safe passes that didn’t do anything to advance our play, but gave the ball away sloppily a few times (when trying a more progressive pass) that allowed Reading to counter.

He worked hard I’ll give him that, I just don’t think he performed well.

I’m not into midfield performances where pretty much everything is sideways or backwards.

Dervisolglu 7

To stop a boxing match, your shots need to be hitting the target, not sure any of ours did in the first half you mention

Muric 6 Nothing really to do , looked like he was caught in no mans land for the goal.

Roberts 6 lot of space on the right, but didn’t really drive into it. Glad he was brought off been saying for a while he looks gassed after 70 minutes.

Harwood-Bellis 6 Defensively ok, but that straight ball into midfield when he gives it away, caused us problems at least 3 times.

Beyer 7 Defended well, carried the ball well, good game.

Maatsen 6 Going forward good, defending poor again, got on the wrong side of the attacker a couple of times and was very lucky not to give away a penalty

Bastien 6 Did ok fairly safe, passing needs to be slicker and quicker, plays some readable passes.

Brownhill 6 Again another who did ok, worked really hard, doing the dirty stuff well

Gudmundsson 6 Think I could give JBG a 6 every week, solid, safe unspectacular.

Tella 7 ran all day and takes too many whacks opens the spaces for others, perhaps didn’t work as well today as Jay seemed to play deeper.

Zaroury 8 created something nearly every time he got the ball, how many corners came from his crosses? He set up the first goal as well as scoring the winner.MOM.

Rodriguez 6 Looked to play deeper today, his height and defending were the best parts of the game.

Benson 8 Great impact and fantastic goal

Vitinho 7 Another one had an impact, supported Benson really well.

Good win that, because we weren't at our best and Reading are a well organised, physical side with a good game plan

Good use of subs again, the pass for our winner from Benson would have not looked out of place at the Nou Camp

Muric 7 - good distribution
Roberts 7 - made some good runs, defended well
THB 6 - some sloppy passes and not great on their goal
Beyer 7 - good
Maatsen 6 - v poor I thought, his defending at times isn't great, but a couple of great balls to Zourary
JBG 6 - solid but pretty unspectacular
Bastien 7 - slow start but really grew in the game
Brownhill 7 - work rate top notch, couple of easy passes missed though
Tella 6 - worked hard
Zourary 8 - looks a hell of a threat and in the right place, right time at the end
Jay 6 - quiet to be honest

Subs
Benson 9* - great goal and an unbelievable assist
Vitinhio 7

That is a fantastic result from what is increasingly obviously a fantastic team. Some of the marks seem surprisingly low in the circumstances.

Muric - 7 - claimed a few crosses well, generally handled fine, distributed well. Couldn't do much about a well taken goal.

Roberts- 7 - a decent outlet in the first half and generally steady.

Mastsen - 6 - progressed the ball nicely but not an enormous threat going forwards and extremely lucky to not concede a penalty- not the first time he's made rash defensive decisions.

THB - 6 - some good range early passing but got suckered into forcing it as the game went on and he'll be very disappointed they ran off him so easily for the goal.

Bayer -9 - used the ball really well and read the game terrifically defensively. His most impressive game to date.

Bastien - 7 - no getting away from the fact we missed Cork and Cullen - both in possession and in Cork's case in the air, notably for the goal - but he grew into the game well and looked comfortable. If Cullen isn't fit for Tuesday I'd leave him in alongside Jack I think.

Brownhill - 7 - dynamic but a bit hit and miss on the ball and whilst it was clearly a plan for him to create overloads on the left we needed him to help move the ball through at times.

JBG - 6 - steady away and retained the ball but never threatened a killer ball.

Zaroury - 9 - thoroughly deserved his goal and created danger whenever he got the ball - and showed his end product both in his passing, crossing and shooting.

Jay - 6 - some neat passes but in and out of the game and clearly should have done better with the first half chance.

Tella - 6 - worked fantastically hard and should have laid on a goal in the first half, but not much dropped for him in the final third.

Benson - 9 - really pushing for a start- won us 8 points this week virtually on his own, and the goal today was expertly taken and the assist off the charts.

Vitinho - 7 - added a little extra dynamism down the right.

Egan Riley- 7 - not sure he was on long enough but I thought he might start in that role and I thought he stabilised us at the base of midfield and really helped us in the last 20 minutes.

This against a good, athletic Reading team and with a patched up midfield was a real test. We didn't exactly pass it with flying colours- we were more than a touch lucky with the non award of what would have been a terminal penalty in injury time, and Reading offered plenty to the game - but we showed huge resilience and no little quality to persevere and eventually get the win. We struggled to create really clear chances in the first half (though might have had a pen of our own) and Reading's power always threatened to overwhelm us on the break - but we kept on going, showed the quality on our bench and ticked another massive box.

It's still early but the signs and the table look really good right now.

From tv
Muric 7 no chance with goal, improving with every game
Roberts 7 thought he had a good game
TBH 7 steady away
Beyer 8 another good, young player who is really making his mark
Maatsen 6 been quiet last couple of games
JBH 6 a lot of hard work, but no end product
Bastien 6 good second half
Brownhill 6 not his best game and some wrong choices
Zaroury 9 every time he got the ball his skill, ball control and awareness were a joy to watch. Plus one for the winnning goal
Tella 7 took some punishment today but responded well
Jayrod 6 one of his quieter games, but still good on the ball

Benson 8 another game winning performance, he is special coming off the bench.

I was a bit worried before the game with no Cork or Cullen, but we adapted well and our never say die attitude is admirable.
