Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Ben is very diplomatic, as you'd expect, but it sounds like there really was a breakdown in the relationship between players and management in that last 3 months of the Dyche era. I guess we'll need to wait for books etc to come out after players finish up.

Thanks for that; I got the same feeling from listening to it too. Also interesting to hear BM's comments about salary offers and his reasoning/initial reluctance to join Brentford.

Each to their own.
I find listening to Ben about as exciting as watching him play.

Whether you’re on £20k or £100k that’s a hell of a reduction

Reading between the lines it sounds like there’s an awful lot he could have said about Dyche but had to bite his tongue.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
definitely some dramatic cost -cutting going on
it makes you wonder if Jay and Cork were offered similar or if VK had identified those as the 2 he really wanted
it also makes it more understandable why players thought there would be a second offer and further talks

For some...he didn't say his was an 80% reduction
Also sounds like he was offered the temporary managers job before Mike Jackson

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Also interesting hearing his lil attacks on Dyche being different in front of the media. Whatever people are saying about the chairman he said he was the one shovelling snow with other staff members, and Dyche popped out for a photo opportunity before going back in. Sounds like Dyche liked to show a different side to the media than that behind closed doors, which several have suspected.

Would like to know the person that was telling him he would only be out for 6 weeks with his injury too.
Comes across like the whole management team had lost the faith from the team.

Says Dyche made jokes and had fun more with the media than in private.
Also says Dyche was quite standoffish towards the end.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Really interesting interview. I always thought it was strange when Dyche left after such a long time that none of the players seemed to mention anything much about it. There was clearly something that happened in the last few months for players that ran through a brick wall for him over a number of seasons to become very tight lipped when he leaves. Ben is just really uncomfortable about talking about his boss of nearly ten years.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
A very good listen. Great to hear an intelligent football interview for once.
Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
I guess it will be interesting to see where Dyche ends up managing. We can't deny that he was incredible for us, just what we needed and it was perfect for him and the club. But it soured at the end, this interview is so revealing in terms of Dyche's input and influence - can he recover this in the football world, which will know a lot more insider info than we do, and get a decent job?
Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
The Dyche in the snow situation made me start doubting Dyche TBH he made it all about him and how tough he is like he had to show off.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 3:10 pmAlso interesting hearing his lil attacks on Dyche being different in front of the media. Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Also bear in mind that Ben signed at least 2 new contracts whilst Dyche was in charge along with being his captain. That would suggest to me that he may have mentioned him fondly or at least acknowledged how good he was for his career and the club. There was absolutely nothing but an uncomfortable silence and a few digs regarding the snow cancelled fixture. All was very much not well for those last 3 months.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Personally think Dyche had become what he would not allow his players to be during his tenure. He had become a media whore obsessed with himself, a lot on here called it before his time was up but were made out to be sour, even after he had left those same few were ridiculed and labelled as disrespectful, but its not hard to see what was going on. Social media bans yet any opportunity he would be doing media.

The guy was amazing for us, took us places I never thought possible. Memories I will always have. But...and a big but, little things like the meeting at The Royal Dyche days before the season started showed him up in my eyes, years of it being that and then only days before Vincent Kompanys opening game and he hogs the limelight. The first time in years an opening in his calendar, after saying he would never go

Perhaps there were problems between playing staff and the coaching staff that created a rift? I always felt that Sean Dyche was loyal to his players, but he also was/is fiercely loyal to his long-standing friends.
If, say, one of those long-standing friends became at odds with the players, then I imagine a difficult atmosphere would result.

Great interview
Clearly something went on as time went on, and its also clear that the fall out between MG and SD also affected the players

only in your head. Can you tell me what I'm having for tea please ? That's the problem with the written word, it can easily be misinterpreted. It's pretty clear listening to the interview that he's talking about others

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
I remember that Jay said that he would not sign a new contract as long as one of the coaching staff was still involved with the club. Sean was sacked on 15 April 2022 along with some of the other staff and Jay signed a contract on 3 May 2022. It makes you wonder just who was rocking the boat.Dougall wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 4:58 pmPerhaps there were problems between playing staff and the coaching staff that created a rift? Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Think it was pretty obvious by the end the atmosphere in the squad had soured pretty badly.
Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Limelight? I thought it was done with hardly any media coverage, in and out before the press knew he was there? It was only on here that I found out about it.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 4:53 pmThe guy was amazing for us, took us places I never thought possible. Memories I will always have. I think I was one of the few during his time at Burnley who thought Dyche came across badly in interviews. Aloof, arrogant and painfully unfunny. Not surprised if he was even worse when the cameras were off.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
You weren’t Pickles there were plenty.
Some of it could be that his sense of humour wasn’t to everyone’s taste but I found him painful to listen to for the most part. He was aloof, arrogant, dismissive of genuine questions and his “Messi” line was tedious beyond belief. Mee alludes to the fact that the players felt the same.
The most cutting comment though from Mee is his “lack of ideas” line when referring to our previous flirtations with relegation.

Id given up listening to his interviews long before he left, because despite lots of words, he never really said anything
Did great for us though, but everyone has a shelf life, fortunately his was quite long.

Maybe the only thing I really disliked about SD (far less than the style) was his odd and unnecessary treatment of the press. And pretty much exclusively the local press. If he was trying to be humorous he certainly didn’t succeed!

My guess is Stone. Plenty of issues with him in the past and it all seemed to go downhill after Tony Loughlan left and Steve Stone replaced him.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 5:27 pmI remember that Jay said that he would not sign a new contract as long as one of the coaching staff was still involved with the club. I do not know for sure but there was a lot of negativity surrounding Steve Stone and his personality. That was a real error to promote him - seemed very ‘jobs for the boys’ and he obviously had previous.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 5:27 pmI remember that Jay said that he would not sign a new contract as long as one of the coaching staff was still involved with the club. Even if Mee stayed, would VK have played him? No doubt he's a class defender but he doesn't offer much else like forward through balls and bringing the ball out of defence as THB & Beyer do. Can't see how he would have fit in and it would have been expensive in wages to keep him.

Seems like Dyche got a bit to big for his boots and his ego ran wild tbh - not just from this tidbit off Ben but ‘rumours’ as well as some of the stuff Dyche has come out with in his podcast appearances.
Just a shame that Pace gave him an extension!

I haven't got a clue if true and could be just blatant rumours but after hearing stories and them coming directly from Jay Rods family.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 5:27 pmI remember that Jay said that he would not sign a new contract as long as one of the coaching staff was still involved with the club. Ian Woan was part of the issue
Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
What i also don't understand from Dyche is after seeing all the numerous podcasts, the thing that stood out was the impression of disdain for the common person. I could be wrong and if so I'll hold my hands up
Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Interesting stuff from Mee.
Listening to Dyche's interviews and podcasts, the contempt he has for people he considers to be below him is clear. If that had started to translate to the players, it's no wonder things went downhill.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
Love Ben Mee and love Sean Dyche.
Whatever happened towards the end, and it’s fairly obvious it ended acrimoniously, Dyche and his coaching staff turned many of those very same players into Premier League players.
And in no parallel universe would I ever use not sweeping snow off a football pitch as a stick to beat the first team manager of a Premier League club with.

Re: Football Ramble Drop In - Ben Mee
He didn't really slag him off for sweeping the snow off the pitch, more the short time he did it and using it as a photo opportunity. Probably at the time the players said to themselves "He is making it about himself again", probably the tip of the iceberg and one story which can be revealedBurnleyFC wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 8:03 pmLove Ben Mee and love Sean Dyche.

No I agree, thought it for a while. His version of humourous ‘banter’ is very strange and a little Neanderthal. No doubting what he did for us but definitely an air of arrogance about him.
