Without being overtly negative, we were gifted 2 goals as well. Shocking.

nearly every goal has come from not winning the first header, not the goalkeeper.

it's worth considering the idea that it is the defence and the keeper. Muric is not in any way giving anyone confidence in front of him. He looks terrified. Anyone ever play in a pub side when the keeper didn't show so you put the tallest player in goal? That's where we are.

The two centre backs have been passive at points. Want to see a Sheff Utd player surrounded by 2 or 3 of our defenders and yet win it on the floor in the box, or react first? Have I got some footage for you.

As other posters have said we have had a result like this on the cards because even the style of our play means we don't get much defending experience in a match. Under Dyche we could be down to 7 men and forced to ride spacehoppers whilst defending continual corners against Peter Crouch / Kevin Francis hybrids for 15 minutes and I'd confidently take the dog for a quick walk knowing we wouldn't concede.

But it's a learning curve for Vincent and our team. The real loss will be not using the defeat to improve and tighten up.

Head in the sand stuff from you on this thread, FactualFrank.

As I correctly predicted about the second half, we won't be top for long if we can't defend our box I'm afraid. That's just a fact.
how the **** have we got top then so far? As usual our poor, poor performances come at the end of a mammoth run of games. WBA away was similar second half. We're knackered, been playing weekends-midweek for about a month straight now. We'll be fine, stop bedwetting!!

Agree, Muric has been very poor today. Never seen such a giant of a keeper to be as useful as a chocolate teapot under the high ball!? He seems to shrink when reaching for it!

What are you talking about?

Muric has been shaky and nervy but we haven't conceded from the corners/long throws he's flapped at.
That’s the point though, he’s made the whole team nervous because of his complete lack of goal keeping ability. I know you like him but just be honest, he’s had a shocking game.

The commentators have been saying all game that he’s a liability

“He’s got a Rick in him”

“He’s flapping”

“Muric should be doing better there”

“Muric should be claiming that”

Let's have it right, both the keeper and the defenders have been appalling today.

All 5 of them.

Not a single one comes out with any credit whatsoever.

Let's not get carried away. Been awful but it really isn't the end of the season.

We've been beaten. It happens. Our style of overloading and retaining leaves us vulnerable to the counter-attack. Tiny team etc all make us vulnerable to long throws/corners/balls.

Overall, it is clearly still working. I think I'd be very careful of the rebound from this whoever we're playing next!

I think if Roberts and Taylor had started at full back, possibly with Benson also as a sub (I know, I know - he’s scored two), we’d probably have got at least a point.

THB and Beyer have been rank bad, but the full backs make it a case of wave after wave by not cutting a single cross out. Cullen and Cork have not protected any of them either, and that’s before we get on to Muric who the Blades correctly identified as our big weakness and exploited endlessly second half.

Spot on! If the defenders felt like they weren't able to trust Muric then that is even more of a reason to make sure they win the first header!

The big fear now is that every team is going to go Pulis era Stoke against us now, as it will work.

We don’t have an answer to it within our squad.
Roberts THB Long Taylor as a back 4 would do a hell of a lot better than today's defence.....

This has to be the biggest case of scapegoating I've ever seen. How you can blame the goalkeeper today when our defenders aren't even marking is beyond me.

Sure Muric has a bad command of the area and poor handling but you can't blame him for the goals which were just down to poor defending.

Looking at the positives, Benson is in the form of his life ahead of the biggest game of the season next week.
Benson is one of the few bright lights today, just a pity his 2 1st half goals will count for nowt.

Defeat is one thing, and I expected us to lose today, however it's the manner of the 2nd half collapse which is far more of a worry for me.

And it's not just today we got lucky in our previous 2 games when we pulled wins out of the fire, but today we've been schooled by a decent Sheff Utd team who identified our obvious weaknesses and have ruthlessly exploited them.

we got bullied by a 20 million quid striker and a team that went close last year and will go up this year for certain. We missed Brownhill and Jay but for me Kompany got it all wrong today with his selection

We have sorely missed JayRod. With all teams on corners you need the support from a couple of taller strikers to help out in the defending of them. Barnes may not have been the attacking threat we wanted but he would have been useful at the corners, as would Taylor. All a bit naive and predictable when looking at the teamsheet. Anyway lets hope the management team take on the learnings.

The muric bashing is just nonsense. He has defenders and midfielders in front of him to win headers second balls and drop downs,, we just have not done that today. In the second half they have chased harder been sharper and wanted it more.
You cannot let Muric off the hook that easily, which you seem to be trying to do. That first half he was useless when the ball was put into our box and that set the trend. Had he come and collected the ball as any good goalkeeper would have done it might have been a different Sheffield Utd team talk at half time .
I agree with the rest of your post

Muric is the definition of a trade off, there are far better keepers out there when it comes to commanding the area and even shot stopping, but what we sacrifice in that regard we gain with his ball control and passing range. If we want to play Kompany’s possession based style we can’t have a keeper like Pope bungling first touches and regularly over-hitting passes out of play. If Muric had the side of the game that Pope excels at whilst being as good as he is on the ball he’d be playing for Real Madrid.

The problem with Muric is that he is where defensive confidence starts. He instils none and that then permeates through the young defence in front of him. If he came and claimed balls he would take pressure off the defence and they would relax and play better. He doesn't command or communicate.

A keeper has to be able to do the basics and Muric can't. We were spoilt with Heaton and Pope but a good example of when that command and communication dipped was when Hart came in. He didn't command and a previously solid defence looked shaky.

Everything starts from the keeper - we have to replace Muric, no amount of coaching will get him to where he needs to be.

Pretty stunned just how poor we've been today. Clearly out muscled by an experienced and big side. Huge test how we react now, regroup and go again. Felt all season we need a big experienced centre half, the second half highlights just how vulnerable we are. Defence probably not helped but the indecisiveness of Muric today. UTC

We just couldn't get hold of the ball in the second half. It's easy to blame the defence but the whole team has to take responsibility. Sheffield United to me seemed more fired up for the game. Get this out of the system, bring on Blackburn.

Peacock-Farrell was absolutely spot on with both his distribution and confidence in claiming at Coventry.

He's probably the worst keeper I've ever seen for us

It’s been coming has this. So many physical opponents in this division, and all it’s taken is a physical side who also possess a little bit more skill than the Millwall’s and Luton’s.

Lack of experience all round that game. Bullied us. Had a good game plan and exposed our weaknesses. We will learn from this and bounce back. We have plenty of talent in our team.

Is it one or 2 that Tella took down and scored?
Compared to hatfulls caused by his inadequacy.

If Kompany is as strong as I think he is, then Muric will be out.

Even the commentary on SUTV have just said how bad Muric has been today and they wouldn’t be surprised if we’re in the market for a new one in January

Absolutely battered that second half and to be fair a defeats been on the cards with some of the recent late show comebacks.

The two positives I can see is that one at least its wasnt the bast*rds we were playing and two we know Sheff Utd are the best team in the division and gonna win the league so they aren't really a promotion rival like Norwich are
