Re: Muric
didn't have a save to make other than the point blank save he had to make when it was 0-0
Re: Muric
Won us the game tonight. Off his line quick to deal with Beyer’s awful header back and made an excellent save. Also good save from the header / foul in the first half and dealt with a few tricky balls into the box.

I must have been watching a different game … created Cahos in his box up until we went 1-0 up imo.

He still gives me fits at times. 2 dodgy passes tonight which could have worked out badly in the prem.
Overall, tonight, he was excellent. He made 2 excellent saves at the start of the 2nd half along with a couple of other very good stops. In with a shout of MOM tonight. The spine was solid and he was part of it.

When you take into account just how often he has the ball at his feet 2 dodgy passes is much fewer than you could expect from any of our defenders.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:11 pmHe still gives me fits at times. 2 dodgy passes tonight which could have worked out badly in the prem.
Re: Muric
Another good performance and a clean sheet for the big lad.
Some on here like to over analyse (think they are GK specialists) and hope Muric makes a mistake, not sure why.

As good as he was at times, he should have been punished at least once if not twice. He’s lucky the quality of this league is shocking.
Tbh he would be the first player I think we should upgrade on for the premier league.

Critics need to watch a few premier games. De Gea, Alison and Ederson all make errors when pressed, De Gea in particular.

Yes, the last GK targeted was also signed from City. Think the negativity around Muric , for some, was decided as he didn't have a good loan spell at Forest and don't see what he brings to the style of play.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:25 pmThere's always one player targeted and they haven't been able to aim at a GK for years

MoM today.
Vital saves including that back header where he wasn’t favourite. Had we gone down in that game I doubt we’d have won.
A chaotic moment or two, just so we knew it was him.

Not sure what he did tonight to receive criticism on here.
Sometimes I think people make up their mind early about certain players and can't hack being wrong.

Most people that have a problem talk about him in relation to playing in the prem next year.
Re: Muric
Errr no, this entire thread is full of people saying change him now and how he’s an awful keeper. As for next season, we are nowhere near it yet so it’s got nothing to do with anything.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:49 pmDon’t think anyone is saying change him now.

The topic was specifically about the match tonight.
Out of interest what’s your thoughts on him for the prem? Given we are almost promoted it’s pretty fair discussion point
Re: Muric
We’ve had the lad long enough now to know what we’re going to get from him.
The point that I keep on coming back to about Muric and one that seemingly needs repeating is that a misplaced back pass here and there is a risk Kompany (and me) is willing to take - not Muric. That’s what the lad is being told to do, and to keep doing it.
We’ve seen him start launching it under extreme duress in more recent games and that is clearly a command also. No doubt at all that if VK did not have faith he’d either tell him to do that more or switch him out for BPF.
So if you’ve a beef with Muric it should in all fairness be directed toward VK.
A few excellent stops again tonight. I thought the save from a header that lead to their offside goal was Heaton V Saints-esque

No question - he played very well tonight. A huge improvement over recent games.
Re: Muric
The lad is a top keeper .
The fact is our style of play creates risk . Risk is sometimes exploited. The touches of the ball he has must be in vast increase to Pope / Heaton under Dyche.
Muruc is a footballer not shot stopper under this system. And he has created chances and goals . See WBA away.
All of the boys are unbelievable, todays gritty win was the result of champions .
Can we just .. all of us as clarets … get behind the boys. They more than deserve it.
To all clarets … Happy New Year … I’m sure it will be on the footy front.
Take care .

I think he's looking far more assured and improving, like most of the players in this team.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:53 pmThe topic was specifically about the match tonight.

As for looking ahead to the PL next year, I'd have question marks about quite a few of them but why are we mentioning that now? and why is it only the GK who is suffering from this future criticism? we should be enjoying watching a good side right now and not worrying about what's potentially ahead.
I think it was RVClaret who made a good point, at the same age as Muric, Pope was playing non league football. Heaton was playing lower league football with Rochdale/Wycombe.

Re: Muric
The lad has conceded 1 goal in 5 league games and 4/5 clean sheets. Prior to that he’d conceded 10 in 5 (skewed by Sheff U).
He is improving, as the defence are, which is great to see. He’ll continue to get better and better too.

Re: Muric
Risk,& reward,if we had a goalkeeper whose ball control was poor we wouldn’t be able to play anywhere near the sort of possession football we are playing ,how many times does he draw a man,& then play a short ball into Cork who quickly lays it off ,& that then immediately takes at least 2 of the opponents out of the game, next to best defence in the league, people can have different opinions about Muric, but if it ain’t broke ,don’t fix it.

We aren’t almost promoted in my eyes. Still a long way to go.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:53 pmThe topic was specifically about the match tonight.

For what it’s worth, I think he has the potential to step up but needs to keep improving throughout the rest of the season (in particular commanding of his area, I’m not expecting him to be Pope but clearly needs work here).
I’d be wanting as much consistency as possible if we go up, particularly in the back 5, especially as we have 3 loanees there who we might not sign all of.

Having an opinion is fine (like having one on electric cars)
Having an opinion in the face of all the evidence is just someone refusing to admit he is wrong (like having one on electric cars)
Having the ability to change your mind in face of all the available evidence is actually a positive thing, not a negative thing
Muric is playing well, and looks a lot better than he did at the start, and that is down to playing regularly, coaching and his own attitude and dedication, and we should be happy about that

Re: Muric
He definitely not the worst .. that is crazy ...but I think he would crumble if he had to face some of the onslaughts that Heaton and Pope faced in the Premier league...
BPF did okay at Old Trafford but he has not impressed much before ...
We need a new keeper next year and Muric is not a Pope that cannot be improved upon ...it is VK choice whether to get a back up or a new number 1 ...I say just leave it with VK...
I also worried about Ben Mee especially when he first arrived he always looked suspect but very rarely let us down..I am getting to feel the same way that Muric may go on and have a similar career as Ben...
I think the Blackpool game was a real low...he was lucky twice early on ...but luck both good and bad is part of the game..
In truth he had little to do ...so those who say he was man of the match are as daft as the ones that say he is rubbish...was a real roll up your sleeves effort last night a real team effort...really pleasing to see...

Re: Muric
Some similarities with Brian Jenson for me-at times sensational and so brave, but on other occasions a flapper. Muric has age on his side and still learning his trade, but I would put his distribution to comfortably PL standard and above many PL keepers
Re: Muric
Started off this season nervy and shaky but it was all new for everybody.apart from sheff utd he’s been decent. The way we play he’s undoubtedly going to give the ball away and create panic now and again get used to it.He’s no nick pope in commanding his area but as mentioned some of the top gk’s punch the damn thing every time.

I'm not sure people would have been saying that against better opposition if we were 2-0 down after 10 mins due to his sloppy passing. He did improve and play well after that but if and when we go up we won't get the chance to recover from those mistakes.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 11:08 pmNo question - he played very well tonight. We need to stick with him but those refusing to see his obvious weaknesses and calling out those who can as "unenlightened" need to get real.

Re: Muric
This cultesque attitude from some stops decent debate. Muric played well yesterday but he made some howlers as well. I think it depends on whether he is challenged or otherwise: he looks good plucking balls out of the air.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 10:31 amI'm not sure people would have been saying that against better opposition if we were 2-0 down after 10 mins due to his sloppy passing. Fortunately, most teams do not have the sustained pressure that would expose him.
Best I've ever seen with his feet though....! So, it's an interesting conundrum as to how to rate his ability.

Re: Muric
Muric in this league is invaluable to how VK wants us to play, and yet again last night he played an important role in our goal.
However whether he could step up to the PL is a different matter as we wouldn't enjoy anywhere near as much possession and control of matches.
He has improved since his nervy beginning to the season, and generally his decision making is getting better.

Re: Muric
Muric along with the rest of the squad, the long term injured excluded, has shown tremendous improvement over the course of the season so far.
In the absence of a proper settled pre season, the world cup break looks to have been a massive bonus in that it gave VK valuable time to coach the squad in how he wants them to play. We appear to be reaping the rewards of that work.
If this is the level of improvement after only half a season, by the final game, we'll need the step up to premier league in order to continue developing.
Like most games, you master one level then look to move on to the next, gets harder each time you do so.

Imperious.
Not sure I’ve ever seen a performance from a goalkeeper like that.
That thing he did in the first half where everyone thought he’d boot it (back to them) and he cut inside and started an attack. Then somehow played in a back three for most of the game. Pinging passes all over the place, two with the outside of his boot.
Inoesta in nets. Unreal.
