Crawley Cup Game

Post by warksclaret » Sat Nov 05, 2022 4:21 pm

On a positive ,the game Tuesday gives VK the opportunity to try certain players. Peacock Farrell is an obvious one for match practice and he must be close to being considered as a first choice keeper. For me Taylor at LB to show VK he is probably the best all round LB in the club-holding his own against the PL's best wide men. I dont think VK has seen him play there.

Opportunity to play McNally to get a closer look, and Egan Riley as a defensive midfielder. Not convinced JBG or Bastian work in midfield where he has previously played, and as a natural defender ER would be useful at set pieces (today Cork was marking McBurney at set pieces). Today we had just two serious defenders starting in THB and Meyer. The introduction of Taylor and maybe ER to the first team goes some way to adressing this issue.

Another option would be Costelloe as I dont think you will learn anything new from Barnes playing and he was unlucky to be taken out of the squad. I think Dervisoglu would deserve a start too. It keeps our key players fresh for Sunday too, and key players could be on the bench for Burnley in case it was going wrong

I’d play Muric - if he’s starting against Blackburn he needs a game in between to get today out of his system. Just my thoughts.

—————————————Muric
Lowton————McNally———Long————Taylor
———————————-Egan-Riley
———————Bastien——————Dervisoglu (10)
——Costelloe————-Barnes———-Gudmundsson

I would like to see Long and Lowton. They are proven defenders. Also gives the rest to the others.

Not sure there's any point playing Lowton or Kev Long, they aren't going to feature this season. Something along the lines of

Muric
Roberts. Egan Riley. McNally. Taylor.

JBG. Cullen Bastien.

Costelloe. Barnes. Dervisoglu

I would expect a wholesale change for a number of reasons
- just to instill a guessing game with the “1st team” players
- rest before next Sunday
- genuine squad rotation and opportunity to play.

I would hope to see
Lowton
Taylor
Egan-Riley
Peacock-Farrell
McNally
Bastien
DervişoğLu
Costelloe
Tucker

all feature and plug the rest in

What needs to happen at that point, you’d have to say. I’d rather have to make that call after going out of the Carabao than after derby day…

I want the keeper and back four to be the ones that are starting next Sunday. Everything else can be flexible.

Managers usually have teams picked for 3 or 4 games coming up
whatever the team was going to be before today, go with that. There's enough knee jerk reaction elsewhere don't let it get into the managers office as well

Easy 11 for this game.

BPF
Lowton McNally Long Taylor
Bastien Cullen
JBG Derv Costelloe
Barnes

That team should still **** it v Crawley and allow all our first 11 to rest.

Bastien should not be at Burnley, he is way out of his depth. I know better semi-pro players.

He’s absolutely fine as backup, he was really good in some early games as well. Struggled today but was certainly not alone, and no way near our worst. Harsh.

Absolute rubbish he's had some good games along with some poorer games, as have many of our squad, but he's certainly worthy of being part of our squad in my view.

Regarding this game, Crawley lost 4-1 at home to Stanley in the cup today, so that provides a pointer as to their present standing, and whatever we select should be enough to see them off.

Can't argue with that - this is a Crawley team that lost 1-4 at home to Stanley this afternoon

The manager said the players were knackered today. So I’d change all 11 players.

I think I’d start Muric. Think he needs a game before Rovers and doesn’t need the rest. Otherwise, I’d probably change the entire outfield, maybe except Bastien. Certainly like to see starts for McNally, Egan-Riley, Dervisoglu and maybe even Costelloe.

Our manager basically said the players were knackered today. We have our arch rivals and nearest chasing team up next Sunday in the league and you want us to play our first 11 against a league 2 side in the hope of trying to attain 1 further round in England's 2nd cup competition?

I really do wonder what you are on about sometimes.

I assume your comment wasn't aimed at me but I must admit I forgot about CJER and so would play him instead of Lowton. I picked the other 2 and if you don't play Long who do you play alongside McNally if resting the first 11.

I would think Westwood is in with a chance playing against Crawley and maybe Twine to come of the bench if he's fit.

Egan Riley is a CB. Lowton should be let go on a free. Whereas Kevin Long, apart from being a brilliant player, has what we need , height. He’s very good in the air.
