The Royal Dyche
The Royal Dyche
I think it would sound a lot better called Royal Kompany. I know it would be a bit of a contradiction to what frequents in there, however it would be keeping up with the times. Are the owners aware Dyche was sacked some months ago?

Re: The Royal Dyche
If, as reported, Royal Dyche is a good pub then it should remain that way.
In a couple of seasons Burnley might also have the Royal Kompany. What was the pub that Rio Ferdinand visited? Maybe that's a good candidate to be modernised and renamed after Vincent Kompany.

How would changing the name interfere with the quality of the establishment?

Actually your opening sentence said. "If, as reported, Royal Dyche is a good pub then it should remain that way. "

Maybe before it's renamed the Royal Kompany it will need a brief period as the Royal Jackson (Caretaker).

Bizarre OP, wanting a pub that was named after the greatest manager in recent times to have a name changed to that of a bloke who's done the square root of nothing in comparison

If you compare the original pub sign against an image of Princess Victoria then the resemblance is there to see

As V is Belgian, it would need to be "koninklijk kompany", which has better alliteration anyway.
Re: The Royal Dyche
Inadequate job? Where have you been for the last few years?
Not one but two promotions from the Championship, a brief foray into Europe a number of successive seasons in the Premiership, and the revitalization of Gawthorpe.
The name Royal Dyche represents a snapshot in the history of the town. With regard to the pub itself, regardless of what it is called, the landlady seems to have done an equally tremendous job....long live The Royal Dyche.

I don’t dispute any of what you say however it is a fact that he was sacked for doing an inadequate job. He was fantastic for us I’m not here to say otherwise. I do find turf moor a much happier place now. With hindsight it was absolutely the correct decision to sack him.Billyblah wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 9:55 pmInadequate job? Tin Hat here, but I think the vast number of people blowing smoke up SD's arse, culminating in him being compared to royalty, actually contributed to his ultimate demise.

The fact that the Angel continues to trade is a minor miracle given the sheer volume of housing that has been cleared around it in the last few decades. It has been a very run-down part of town, which is saying something for this townPaul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 6:54 pm

He’s right you know. For the same reason we should remove all tributes to Churchill, he was sacked by the country. Oh, and Harry Potts Way? I only knew him as manager in the late 70s and that wasn’t great, in fact he was sacked.SimonSays wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 10:14 pmI don’t dispute any of what you say however it is a fact that he was sacked for doing an inadequate job. That was my first watering hole in the 70s have great memories meeting up with the lads before going on the turf and it was a hard pub some battles in there especially with Bolton and usually spilled over into the Turf pub where Rocky and is mate's would be waiting . Re: The Royal Dyche
A lot of grotty sub standard terraced houses have been flattened of Accy Road and have been replaced by new low cost homes so that area has improved somewhat, the houses lower down from the pub have had grants as well. As with all small pubs though it is remarkable that it is trading, that said once of a day within a 5 minute walk of the pub there used to be at least 7 or so pubs and clubs so it may well have picked those customers up.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 11:40 pmThe fact that the Angel continues to trade is a minor miracle given the sheer volume of housing that has been cleared around it in the last few decades. Re: The Royal Dyche
What a ridiculous post. Maybe the council should also change Harry Potts Way to Vincent Kompany Road since Harry Potts was sacked, presumably also for what was then perceived to be incompetence. Seeing these things around the ground, especially on match days, for me enhances the rich history of the club and long may if continue.

I have no objection to you and those like you getting your heads kicked in just for the fun of it, but it would be far better for the world in general if you would do it out of everyone else's way. It's because of people like you that football fans have to be kept apart, herded about, have our movements restricted, and generally get interfered with in our watching of our sport. Don't be proud.
