The man on the right is Ross Howart, who worked in the Development office at the Turf and a decent footballer. I don’t know the man on the left, whose making the draw. Those days they had a lot of agents collecting from customers and taking their weekly collection to the ticket office, which would be entered into the weekly draws. Every so often a major prize was drawn. I guess that would be the one in the picture.
The agents were also entered into a draw for a free weekends stay in a London hotel and a ticket for the Cup Final.

It was like a raffle, but I cannot remember the name of it. Development draw?
It used to cause excitement though, and the tannoy worked then too.

Remember this , worked in the town centre at the time . We used to have a guy called Fred who came in every Friday for years ,selling raffle tickets for a weekly draw .

The Fred mentioned above was Fred Corless. I think he sold more weekly tickets than anyone and had a good commission from his sales. Seemed to recall he lived over the Clowbridge area.

Development Association Draw. I used to sell tickets to the lads in the Band of RAF Germany and send money each week to the Association.
Whenever I was home I used to get free tickets for myself and my two boys for any home matches taking place during my stay. I don't remember if there were any other bonuses because it was such a long time ago.
I am fairly certain that there was a father and son who were involved in running the draw etc.

My dad used to sell tickets for this draw.He was a train driver in crewe, and had a book with all his mates he got to subscribe every week.I think for his efforts, he got a free season ticket,

The lottery side of funding for the Club was run by Jack Butterfield, who was later joined on the staff with his son Geoff. Around the time Bill Reid was Jacks No 2, who took over the post when Jack followed Adamson to Sunderland as their Commercial manager.

Re the winning of a (Hillman Avenger) car in the draw. This took place in the Centre Spot yearly. Someone from the audience drew the winning ticket from a drum similar to the OP pic and handed the ticket to Jack Butterfield, who used to have a clipboard in his hand. He then read out the winning ticket Number. Other winners of the car draws were the above mentioned Bill Reid and former Club Secretary Albert Maddox. This caused a lot of questions among people entered into the draw, about the validity of the draw and the way it was conducted.

I remember Jack and Geoff Butterfield and my dad used to sell the club’s weekly draw tickets to neighbours and workmates. I’m sure he got a free season ticket every year for doing this?
Additionally the Hillman Avenger cars which were the big prize were supplied from that car garage just off Parliament Street. Rootes I think?

I remember in the 80s when black Terry up at Boundary Garage supplied the players with clapped out BMW's. I couldn't imagine our lot driving around in those today

Top Claret, I was in the same class at school as Terry (Eason), one of the nicest people you’d ever meet and always had a smile on his face.
He was a keen Burnley supporter and sponsor. I think your being unkind, saying he sold players clapped out BMW cars. Sadly Terry is no longer here to fight his corner on that remark.

I remember Fred Corless selling Development tickets to my parents. I seem to recall he lived on the road to Rawtenstall. It's not him in the photo.

So that was a dummy!? I waited hours to be served petrol by him....then went to another garage
